Rumours circulating he's coming on loan from Villa, by all accounts fairly highly rated for his age (18), couple of first team appearances, has represented England at u16's, 17's and 18's.

If he joins, I hope he does well.

However, is anyone else a bit underwhelmed by the fact that we're signing loan players aged 18-20? Yes, I know Arma did a good job last season as did Murphy in part, and age is no barrier to performance, but I'd much rather see us do permanent deals for experienced 24-28 year olds on 2-3 year deals, or if we're getting a loannee, get someone with a lot of experience.

....unless they turn out to be shite like so many before them.....then we're lumbered with over-earning under-performing players until contracts expire....

.....for the most part, I reckon TM has & is using the loan system pretty well......and its a good job as its how L1 & L2 teams (barely) survive....

Comes up time and time again, to sign someone 24-28 on 2-3 year deals requires finances, which we simply don't have. Have you been out of the country with no access to anything coventry city for the last 5 years? Taking a gamble on hot prospects on loan is our only option and personally i am happier signing someone with flair and potential than deadwood

I think we have to many untested youngster of our own that need exposure other than helping other clubs players to develop. If all are better than what you have, which was the case last year fine, Murphy, Armstrong even Kent were all young and were better players and better developed than what we at the time. But what message are you now giving DKE, Haynes,G Thomas, Spence even Lamires, You are not good enough as younger or lesser experienced players are brought in to take your place.

If this is the case Haynes, G Thomas and DKE should be let out on loan to L2 and asset's at those clubs to see if you want them back if not finding another club becomes an easier option due to experience and exposure the individual gains.

If you use the system USE it to you own advantage do not then leave your kids in a stand come a Saturday.

I need to read threads more carefully. All morning I've thought we've been looking at signing a Russian!
And there was me thinking he was Irish!

I'm just fed up of us signing players with no, or next to no, first team experience when clearly we have enough young players as it is and need more senior pros.

Its not the reputation that matters, its how he stands up to being kicked off the pitch every week, this is a boy who is stepping up to man's pro football. We have enough kids of our own that need exposure, does this mean every week no, but at least let them know they have a chance, if this kid is better than what you have in his position, then sent your own player down a league or 2 and use it to develop your own. If we watch our kids in the stand while players like this are used within the game day squad then it defeats the object of development, its suppose to trickle down.

with development it is unlikely that you can have a team where every position comes through at the same time (Man U you cant win anything with kids are the only ones to do this) - so you need to support this by filling in the holes as best we can afford

that was with a view to perm, as he couldn't sign with us at that time
True. But higher level clubs tried to hijack the deal in close season
Happily the lad had seen how well he was treated at Coventry by management, players and fans so he declined to speak to the other clubs.
Of course youngsters don't have family commitments that many older players have so it was easier for him to stay where he knew he'd get first team football rather than chase more money

How much have we spent of TM budget?
Well no one knows how much it was or how much has been spent, but you are all sure there is none left.
How do you all work it out?

Strange.. Went from being a 'deal almost done' to nothing. Hope that isn't the end of our business until January (not including unattached).
