Howley's potential and early promise has unfortunately not materialised. He is hardly getting game time with Ayr, let alone being Championship ready.
I would bring him back in January and have 6 months of development under Lampard. It would be a great opportunity for him to show that he has the ability. I would also do the same with Burroughs.

Don’t know on Howley, but bringing back Burroughs would at least give us a natural back up right back. Surprised he went on loan with the lack of depth we have there

Pointless bringing him back to not play here. At least there's a chance of some minutes at Ayr.

I think we have to assume he just doesn't have it. He looked miles out his depth when he did play for us, had an awful loan last season where he hardly played, and it's happened again a league lower. We also have Kai Andrews who has leapfrogged him. I would be recall him and find a club he will play at, probably the national league and let him go on a free. His contract expires at the end of the season, his development has stalled over the last two season, so I can't see any reason we would extend his contract.

I think they'll both be moved on in the summer (along with quite a few others to free up room for Frank's incommings.)

If Howley and Borroughs are not getting game time they should bring them back in January and send them out on loan where they will get some game time.

May as well give it a go.
Pointless being on loan if he's getting no minutes

Never really saw the hype with him if you could call it hype. Needed way to much time on the ball.

That's means he's not good enough

The "promise" was him being thrown into the first team as we had nobody else.
Carried through by Hamer. Never ever looked like he was going to be a championship player.

It's always been an odd one with our u21s. The last break through was Eccles in 2018 and even then he went out on loan. Do we have anyone up and coming who we think can make it?

They seem to rate Andrews and Dausch. Andrews has been around the first team for a while, he could do with going out even if just to the National League for a month.

I'm Hoping lampard might start delving into it a bit more what with him liking coaching youngsters

I can't see Howley coming back, I think he'll be looking towards league 2 or national league sides for a job next season. Shame though.

At least part of the issue will be our march up the EFL. It’s a lot easier to blood academy players in League 1 and 2. Our infrastructure hasn’t really had the chance to catch up. Frustratingly, being Cat 2 status has meant we’ve not been able to keep our most promising young players in any case!
