It's a tournament that's been watered down. They should have left it at 16 teams. Every game was a tough one. Now, you pretty much just need one win to get through to knockouts. Portugal won the last euros after finishing 3rd in their group.

With teams like Scotland and North Macedonia qualifying, its become a bit of a joke.

I reckon Cov should declare independence and we’ll go for it with Madders and Wilson

I'm surprisingly pleased for the Jocks...... Last time they were in a tournament I was living in Edinburgh....the 1998 world cup.

As the tournament went on, us "foreigners" made one pub our own on match days.....the cheeky prick of a landlord started flying the Argentinian flag......absolute carnage!

I went out to the south of France for that WC too.........but we don't talk about that anymore:eek:

I dunno, I don't mind seeing different teams qualify. Don't mind the longer tournament either.

When you look at the group stages of the last few Euros and World Cups, it's arguable that the Euros were a tougher competition to progress in.

But like you say, 3 teams qualifying, and the increase of participants (purely for financial gain), has made it into yet another shambles of a tournament... not to mention taking a single tournament "on tour" round Europe (again a financial ploy).

My first memories of the World Cup was 16 teams including rubbish like Zaire and Haiti. The expansion has improved quality in some continents

I like having more teams and more games but I think they've got the format wrong. The group stages aren't interesting because basically everyone goes through. Still love international tournaments though, maybe not as interesting now we know every player inside out but still.

It was a stupid idea pre pandemic and an even worse idea now. I’m still hoping they’ll bin it off and take it to either one or two countries that neighbour each other. Russia was rumoured last week which would’ve been good but would rather somewhere like Scandinavia. Anywhere interesting that’s not here really.

With regards to who has qualified due to the new format I was very sceptical at first but the chance for small football nations like Scotland and North Macedonia to play in a tournament wouldn’t have come around for a long time and it’s huge for them. It will no doubt make them more competitive in the future and is huge for the two countries as a whole. It has it’s negatives but certainly has it’s positives too.

A massive tournament would have made lockdown more bearable. Always tried to watch every game previously but there's always one or two I would miss for work etc.

3 games a day and a full fridge could be decent.
