anybody catch what happened for it to kick off a bit at the front of the stand. Looked like a few of ours and a few of theirs pretend to try and get at each other before police got between them. A few things chucked over too.

That was to our left. I could just see a few of their fans giving it large to our lot. I didn't realise they were so close to us. I then saw those police at the front starting to video people.

It’s a learning curve for the young ones. No doubt I will come across it with Jess and she needs to see it and understand there are arseholes in all walks of life.
Just keep away and let the idiots get on with it and not let it ruin the day.
I saw it first hand V Birmingham City last home game of the season 1981? My dad just walked us through the mayhem and he would of put hem on their arse if they started buy they were 18-20 year olds who weren’t interested in us. Nothing changes sadly.

Was just banter mainly, I was by the segregation netting.

Cov lads winding them up big time and they tried to charge the netting. Verbals and gestures from top to bottom all game, been happening at games forever.

She will be OK saw all the malarcy at both Sunderland games last year, it does scare her but she loves going
My daughter was a 'babe in arms' in 2005 but I had to take her to our penultimate fixture at HR, against Wolves (I knew I would be an emotional and drunken wreck after the final game.) just in case she grew up to be a City fan and she'd be able to say "I went to Highfield Road".
Me and her Mum took her to the first fixture at Ricoh and she went to another fixture later that season when she was about one. To my recollection I think she's only been on two other occasions - There is a certain irony to this but she say's she doesn't like the noise!
She came with me on the first protest march over our move to Northampton and she blarted all the way along.
The only way I could convince her to stay in Broadgate to listen to the speeches was to promise I'd take her to 'claires', afterwards.

The thing that shocked me the most was what happened outside the stadium on the way back to the car. A blonde girl in a denim skirt and Coventry City top on was approached by four male Oxford United fans who called her "a fucking slag" and threatened to "bang her out". The girl was with somebody who I think was her dad and clearly not in a position to defend her against four lads. Me and my friend were about to step in when a group of stewards moved the lads along.
I've seen trouble kick off at football matches before, but never seen a woman singled out for such abuse and violence.
If the girl who got threatened is reading this, then I just want to say you had at least two Cov fans who were about to jump in before the stewards turned up.

Oxford family stand getting a bit wound up when we went 2-0. Nothing more than that.

How very apt that their team play in yellow.
This is one of those rare occasions when an individual (or four) should justifiably be kicked in the head until they stopped twitching.
And then have their keys thrown away.

It’s embarrassing.

Been to six nations games in last couple of years and it’s crazy, but I still next to some wales fans and we don’t want to hit each other.

The thing is, while I'm not defending trouble, the reason why I hate rugby is part of what you said.

I like the fact that in football you dislike everyone you play. It gives it the egde. It's why away games are so good. That isn't saying people should be throwing punches, but a bit of winding up from each sides isn't too bad. From what I saw today, it was just a bunch of young lads from Oxford and a few blokes from our end calling each other wankers.

Bet the cowards wouldn’t have said that two years ago to a woman when 45,000 Coventry City were about?

I love football away games.

That said, England winning at the millennium stadium was brilliant. Banter throughout the day and the game, at no point feeling like trouble was about to happen

I hear what you are saying pusb; I agree that 'dislike of other fans' has been part of football spectating forever and a lot of people share your viewpoint.

I guess I'm a bit different. I don't go to matches disliking fans of the other team and I'm not interested in winding anyone one up and/or abusing fans on the other side of the fence. I'm really passionate about our team but just want to support the lads on the pitch. That's what I love about football - being part of a crowd giving fantastic and real support to the team. And we generally have fantastic and loyal fans.

But there are a few things I see and hear at football are anti-social and make me feel uncomfortable if I take my young nephews along, for example it's usually my luck that I have some pissed up bloke behind me loudly calling the ref a 'f...g cxxx' every couple of minutes....I think that's unreasonable if families are around. Banter is one thing....but anti social behaviour should not be tolerated as much.

I do agree on what you are saying about rugby pusb. Twickenham for me is a terrible experience - most of the crowd seems to be corporate with little or absolutely no knowledge of the game. Just there for a day out and with little emotional buy into the result. (Wimbledon is very similar). Library like atmosphere. It's kind of a place to be seen and to show off to your friends on the following Monday morning in the City that you were there. Just disappointing to be honest - middle-upper class spectators at play with little interest in the result.

But as ccfcway says it's totally different in Wales. It's a working class game there with fanatical and knowledgable fans. Similarly to a degree in Dublin - they totally love their team and know the game.

Hi there, the girl in question was my wife (lol at the Dad comment). The lads in question believe it or not were actually Coventry fans, albeit as regulars at away games we can’t recall seeing them before. Oddly it all kicked off because the mouthy one was shouting “thanks for the 3 points” which would make you think they were Oxford supporters. My wife having heard this (and who loves a bit of banter) said “thanks for the trophy a couple of seasons back” to which she then got called a slag and was told they were Cov supporters - very odd.

Of course she wasn’t happy at being called a slag and rightly told him so, he then threatened to knock her out... my wife is no wall flower and this was a red rag to a bull so she called him out on the threat and told him to go ahead (I’m pretty sure she’d have knocked him clean out had he raised a hand lol) - the stewards then stepped in and we went back to the car.

A massive thank you btw for being there to step in if needed

Thing is a lot of pricks like to throw quite a wild insult, ‘slag’ in this case, and if your mrs started he’d have cried that it was only “banter”.

I wasn't at the game on Saturday so can't comment on the events discussed on this thread but that is disgusting and cowardly behaviour. Threatening a woman/child/family/anyone that is clearly just going to watch a match is embarrassing and something that has always struck me as being particularly lame. Okay, I don't like Villa or Sunderland but it wouldn't bother me in the slightest if any normal fan walked past me wearing a Villa/Sunderland shirt. No need to comment or shout abuse or threats.

A bunch of Sunderland fans decked out in the Tessuti Sale shouting 'Jimmy's in a box' on the other hand....
