I bought a raspberry pi but didn't really see the point of it other than its a cheap Linux box.

Perhaps that's indeed the point of it!

Want to learn to automate tasks better using python and Excel macros, say myself paying a human to do it which will end up being wrong!

Python, Excel macros, raspberry pi, Kiwi...… all sounds over my head. Although I absolutely love technology, I really believe that at 67 I'm far to ancient to learn anything new. Don't get me wrong - I'd love to - but I have no need these days.

My Pi ended up as a retro console and kodi machine stuck behind my telly. Best use for it IMO. Unless you’re about to build a robot.

Been working on my Spanish and Swedish most days on Duoling app. Definitely seen an improvement.

Also decided to start eating better this week but the energy to use the gym I made in the garden is slipping.

Thought I would try and get back into it with some spare time.

I've started watching this Belgian series on Channel 4 and they speak Dutch or a similar dialect. Literally sounds like gobbledegook.

So you need to scan the page to decide what category the product should be in?

Yes but this is more about recognising words with the keywords and then categorising them. It saves hours and hours rather than going through and doing them manually. The user intent is also very interesting

So after messing about I found an old radio controlled truck I had as a kid. Got it from radio shack in town.

Have stripped everything out of the inside and had it driving via a PS4 controller.

Just waiting on a bigger battery and steering servo from eBay and it will be flying about.

Pretty sad but also quite interesting while there's not much else to do and cheaper than a couple of pints.

I’ve no spare time... just doing shit loads of jobs I’ve put off. I’m building a pond at the moment..... it’s in the planning stage. I’m a fecking accountant.... I’ve had enough of being a handy man. I’ve laid a lawn, I’ve put guttering around the outdoor bar I’ve painted all the decking and I’ve converted the garage into a gym with a wooden floor. All look badly done but an improvement on before. I’ve learnt lots of new skills and got to buy some good tools I will be able to dick around with. But I really just want to get back to producing a set of numbers and talk a load of bollox about them to people who pretend they are interested.

DataCamp is good from a DataScience Perspective. Learn Python the hard way is a classic. There’s loads of good python resources though.

R is the most horrible language I’ve ever experienced. You can tell it was written by non programmers.

And typically we've decided on R.I've started an online course on Codecademy, and whilst it's early days, it seems fairly intuitive so far

MSE’s Academy of Money

Only 12 hours so most should be able to compelte within a few weeks.

If not for yourself then those with teenage children would definitely benefit; they don't teach this in school!

They do teach this in school. It’s in the Maths curriculum, the PSHE curriculum and every school I ever taught at had at least one collapsed timetable day dedicated to it.

Get so sick of that phrase. The fact is teaching it in school doesn’t work because 14 year olds don’t have any real world experience of why it’s important. Same with political education. School isn’t intended or suited to teaching every single life skill on the planet but it sure as hell tries.

It is something that is better taught in the home. Pay the kids their pocket money for doing chores/homework etc but at the same time make them pay towards their food/room etc. They'd soon appreciate earning money but how quickly it goes. Problem with such an approach is it can lead to an obsession with money and greed. So somehow need to add in paying them for being thoughtful and kind to others.

That's a good question. I've just go it out of the box. I am hoping files are transferable to other machines etc
I will find out whilst setting up and message the thread.

I am running virtual windows on my Mac to get around all this madness and just USB into it.

All the main stuff will be kept on the Mac. Easily transferable between machines.
