Hamer has a relegation release clause in his contract, but surely his price would be a lot more than £16m now?I don't know about this. He has made public his release clause. Someone in a panic on the final day needs to bring someone in and has £16m burning a hole in his pocket. Who else are you getting for that? It's a nice quick deal.
The other interested clubs won't meet it at the moment and happy to sit it out until next summer and get him cheaper. Palace may choose to do that, you never know
If players gossip freely to their friends about stuff, it will rapidly be common knowledge anyway. But you give the impression that you are cultivating a specific ‘source’ for inside information you can post, and which the club might want to keep under wraps. There’s a difference, and apologies if it’s only the former. You do know players have friends within Coventry don't you? It's not always some big conspiracy leak from the fucking tea lady

No, but it’s a 3 year cycle so who knows what that picture looks like from now. It’s why Hull have been in a bit of trouble because their profitable season from 4 seasons (or so) is out of the reporting range. There’s no way we’re anywhere near ffp/par trouble.
Bit dramatic20 million plus or come back next year. It's waving goodbye to autos and possibly play offs if we sell him, do it next year
Makes sense, they missed on Gyokeres and there’s been plenty of Championship players able to make the step up as Palace learned with Wharton. You do know players have friends within Coventry don't you? It's not always some big conspiracy leak from the fucking tea lady
Palace is on the cards. They want him.
I'm sure they will, but too much upheaval will fuck us up, even we do move the squad forward it has to be on our timescale. He's also a leader. We just can't buy a ready to go Ben Sheaf thatll slot in seamlessly, too late in the dayBit dramatic
The club will have a contingency plan for replacing players
Of course, but our midfield is considerably weaker without him, I don’t see a new signing hitting the ground running that quickly.Bit dramatic

He hasn't figured in many preseason games though and we've looked fine without him .Of course, but our midfield is considerably weaker without him, I don’t see a new signing hitting the ground running that quickly.
This season is one we should really push for I think, next summer we’re likely to see a few big departures if we don’t go up (Simms, MVE, Wright etc)
He was thereSheaf wasn't at the game on Saturday allegedly
He's as stated not the kind of person to be disruptive or force a move. If he was he'd have don't that twice already. But what if the player wants to go ?
Agent's will know what he can earn in Wages, it's happened many times.
It's a totally different scenario. Hamer was one of 2-3 players we totally relied on .easy to say its an over the top reaction, the season starts in 5 days, no way we get a replacement in and ready for that.
look what happened when we lost Hamer at last minute.... 3 wins in our first 16 games and autos/playoffs effectively gone
not saying it will happen but a huge risk to let him walk (especially when he has 2 years left!)
what are our top earners on these days?
Don’t think that suits anyone tbhCould we accept a bit less on the bid agree to release him in Jan but use the agreed fee to get a replacement in now with the view of getting them upto speed by Jan when sheaf leaves
If we are in the top two come January there’s no way we would let sheaf leave, we would be shooting our selves in the foot.Could we accept a bit less on the bid agree to release him in Jan but use the agreed fee to get a replacement in now with the view of getting them upto speed by Jan when sheaf leaves

fine doesn't get you automatic promotion. He hasn't figured in many preseason games though and we've looked fine without him .
fine doesn't get you automatic promotion.
fine doesn't even get you anywhere near the playoffs. not in this league.
we're either serious about doing it this year, or we sell our best players less than a week before the start of the season.
but we can't do both.

I think last season shown we wont spend the money for the sake of it, its possible we wont get a Sheaf replacement or any other positions we require if he is sold late on in the windowBollocks. We either go in 2-3 short with Sheaf or without Sheaf but the ability to flesh out the squad with quality. The idea it’ll derail our season is nonsense. We’re so much more than we were a year ago.

Much better to replace with a loan than panic and commit ourselves to four years of the wrong signing. Pragmaticism is needed.I think last season shown we wont spend the money for the sake of it, its possible we wont get a Sheaf replacement or any other positions we require if he is sold late on in the window
I'm sure Doug won't let Sheaf leave unless a replacement has been brought in first.I think last season shown we wont spend the money for the sake of it, its possible we wont get a Sheaf replacement or any other positions we require if he is sold late on in the window
Arsenal dropped nearly £50 million on a defender from Bologna this summer. Wrong priority, it’s a forward they really need.
You'd better go and tell Mikel Arteta and his management team quickly then. I bet they wish they had your insight into their squad that they work with every day.Agreed, their defence was the best in the league last year
