Shipley is a decent, versatile squad player plus he's home grown and cheap. He's got obvious flaws e.g. his final ball around the box is shocking, but he's improved for consecutive seasons now. His biggest plus is that he does something that none of our other midfielders have done in the last couple of years and that's make runs beyond the strikers and taking up goalscoring positions inside the box as well as being able to hit from longer range - which is why he pops up with important goals. He's also neat and tidy on the ball when he has options around him although struggles a bit 1 on 1 as he doesn't have the pace of Thomas or trickery of Bright/Bayliss.
I think he will be the type of player who continues to improve each season and maximises his ability over his career. Will end up a very solid, if not spectacular, lower league central midfielder by the time he reaches his peak.

I can definitely see Shipley being understudy to Kelly, and Bayliss understudy for Allen if MR plays both wingers.
Westbrook may well be one that goes out on loan.
Either way it's good to have some strength in depth and genuine competition for places in midfield.

Again this depends on the formation.

If he goes with what he has been using then Kelly and Shipley would be in different positions.

Shipley will do much better if we play the formation we did in the Friendly.

It suited him much more.

Agree with this. You feel with the 2 wide men there ought to be a lot more breaking around the edge of the box (plus he will have a flat pitch to take aim from at the Trillion stadium)

It’ll be a midfield three next year which suits Shipley. He looked good there when we down to ten men against Mansfield two years ago and I thought we played well at Walsall last year with that system.

At L1 level the games come thick and fast in early season, with the League, EFL cup and Trophy meaning there are often two games a week for most of the first 3 months or so
It took its toll last year when we were short of numbers at the start anyway and probably meant some players returned from injury sooner than was ideal
Looks like Robins won't make that mistake this year and everyone will get a chance

End of day i never said he wouldnt improve. I never said he shpuldnt be in squad. He just shouldnt have been starting. At least not on the wing anyway
