I never understood, and still don't, why some had and have a viceral aversion to a gesture against racism? We had enough of that when we were taking the knee; frankly, it's a pathetic reaction from people at best. At worst...?

Sections of Millwall fans basically bullied the players in their club into not taking the knee, and then said it was a political stance in support of BLM, rather than against racism. It's basically just a way of covertly saying your racist, without coming out and saying your racist. Fans at our club have said the same.

You should probably steer clear of threads where racism is being talked about.

Why? I’m absolutely not racist if that’s what you’re implying - it’s something I’ll never understand & it’s vile so don’t ever assume I am just because I’m saying my opinion

I think the taking the knee thing was a muddled up mix of people who thought it was getting / had got diluted and therefore no point, those who disagreed with the BLM movement and what they stood for (and that because they had adopted the taking the knee, it was associated more with their political stance and ideas than a stand against racism), and probably also some idiots who just didn’t agree with making a stand against racism for some reason….

I never understood why it wasn’t looked at as players simply showing they stand against racism, applaud with them then crack on with the game, but there we go!

A (or more than one if possible) two tone flag would be great on Friday if that could be done, and fans wearing two tone shirts…wonder whether we could get the Specials - Racist Friend played at full volume too pre match. Above and beyond all this though, just turn up and support the team, sing loud and proud and don’t be racist - simple really!

Cov forum, I accept thatYou have a funny way of turning things on there head. You told him to go back to his own forum. Why should he? It's an online forum open to everyone who wants to contribute. Again, they joined marginally after you did, so its not like you have some divine right to be here over him.
he probably has more right than me, with this being a Cov forum, I can easily accept that, its the tribal nature of English football...and there are some parts of that I like , I like the banter, I like the to and fro with rival supporters up to a point, obviouisly some of our so called supporters went beyond that last week, f.ookall I can do about that , thats why I came on here.
What we all forget is that despite the rivalries , the banter, and what has happened on here..we are our own worst enemies at times, just because of the tribal nature of english football, we seem to hate each other.
Has there ever been a spat between Owls fans and you lot?, nah...not that I can remember, but here we go now
I can emembe when those 2 Owls fans died on the motorwayafter travelling back from your place some years ago, one of our next games was against The Blades a few weeks after.....Blades fans held a banner up with their names and R . I .P.. ..thats football fans, when it comes to the crunch.cos we all suffer the same crap, its a small light in the darkness, theres a strength we have but we don't use it.
You lot descending down the leagues,no f.ooker cares, Bury going out of business...nobody cares....we do sod all about it it bar
"There but for the grace of god!
And heres us on here...what starts as a simple apology for summat I can do f.ook all about bar acknowledge it..turns into a total sheeitefest
We are in all honesty our own worst enemies,,,,,

Dunno why some are taking a holier than thou attitude. As others have said, it reflects society and we all bear responsibility, and not just fans of a particular football team. There are some pretty deprived areas of South Yorkshire (as there are in many places), with plenty of scarcely educated folk. Probably more a reflection of that than anything. Horrible but reality.

I once heard a group of our fans call the keeper Dieng a monkey, when he was playing for Doncaster and took a goal kick. They were young lads, 16/17 and I called them out for it, and they denied they said anything.

I thought I’d come on this thread and see outpourings of sympathy for Kasey, and showing support for him, and not find lots of shit posts. Should have known better.

i hope he plays Friday, and I hope that he will be given a great reception from both sets of fans Before the match starts.

I have to say, I would be inclined to agree to an extent - I think there’s a legacy of racist views in some older generations, but maybe based on opinions passed down and the fact it was more accepted / less widely criticised back in the day, but I do think there’s little chance of many / any in that generation or indeed mine (let’s say mid to late 40s upwards) standing on a football terrace shouting racist abuse believing it is acceptable… (pricks at Sheff Weds and perhaps a few others excepted)

I think the difference is the younger generation have little concept as to what is right and what is wrong, and without getting too deep and meaningful this isn’t just about racism, it’s a problem across the whole of society - kids don’t have any fear of authority and they think they are allowed to say and do what they like, maybe fuelled by social media, along with drugs and drink they can’t handle, who knows…

I wouldn’t be at all surprised if it’s the younger generation of football fans who to be honest don’t really have the intelligence in the main to understand the implications and impact of what they are saying. It is a shame but it seems like most have a chip on their shoulder, and / or have something to prove to their mates - it is a wider societal problem

I should imagine there are thousands of now old people who marched against racism back in the day. The only real racist demographic is those that have missed the evolutionary process of standing upright

@SWFC1867

As I think you know from my previous posts, I accept your decent apology (not that you personally have anything to apologise for) in the spirit in which it was intended. I'm sorry that not all of our own fans see it that way.

We support our own teams and want them to win, which is how it should be. That apart, I'm always up for a bit of friendly banter and leg-pulling between rival fans but, as you have done, we should treat each other with respect as human beings.

It's a shame we didn't have enough time to have a big banner of Kasey Palmer in the away end on Friday.
