Signing Number 3! (1 Viewer)

I wouldn't mind having Bigi back at all. A player who is willing to learn, having a drive to get his career going again and who loves the club? Yes he was nothing short of atrocious when he initially signed on loan however a combination of low confidence and little game time over the past 3 years, he was always going to be rusty

Quite often a player in Bigi's position in the last year of his contract at a higher level club is paid off so he can move to somewhere he will get game time.
I believe Joe Cole had a similar experience
My guess is that if Bigi comes he will be on a modest wage with extra payments if he plays
A sensible solution which most fans would favour I suspect

I think consistency has always been his problem.

He really needs to work on his ball retention and passing.

Hopefully he has done so.

Surely ball retention and passing are a basic for any footballer, if he can't do them it's time to quit.

I said months ago he was signing for us.

It's no surprise. I would guess he will be paid very little as will agree a settlement with Newcastle.

He's rubbish but free and cheap

I'm total underwhelmed three times over that we will sign Bigi. Can't pass ,can't tackle and pretty much can't do anything else that makes a decent footballer
Never mind he's free and that what matters.

With our budget it will either be an Albanian, Icelandic, Northern Ireland or Turkish player.

I do have everything crossed that its Griezman though!

I hope Icelandic they had a few good players with the passion required or away matches on a raining February evening!

Tony Mowbray is closing in on Coventry City’s priority positions with at least one centre-half, another striker and a replacement for John Fleck on the cards.

Rubbish!

We heard it from someone who was told by someone else that someone told someone who heard it from the club that we haven't got a pot to piss in.

Andy Turner reporting that we're close to another 3 in this morning's telegraph.

Certainly need another striker capable of sharing the burden with Sordell as I can't see that many goals coming from midfield; they never do. Leon Clarke or someone of that ilk would be ideal with Tudgay, Thomas and Thomas as backup.

Hoping Brown comes good during his trial and perhaps go in again for the winger from Spurs who ended up spending last season at Rangers. Add these two to Jones and Lameiras and I think we would have creativity in abundance.

Mogga was also talking about signing a replacement for Fleck although I'd have thought that Vlad or Rose were earmarked for that role. One more with quality in this department and I think we'd be sorted. I know he comes in for a lot of stick but I wouldn't mind Bigi, he's not the worst player in the world and would get better and better the more games under his belt.

Defence is still the main concern, particularly centre half. Not sure Ricketts has a full season in him and Willis - despite having the talent - is coming back from a season on the treatment table. Big year for him. It'll be interesting to see if Mowbray intends to play 3 centre halves and whether Stokes will play left of the 3. Would rather him up and down the left full back position as opposed to Haynes, although his pre-season reports so far have been encouraging. David Wheater is someone who continues to be linked although I just can't see it, his wages must be fairly astronomical having been at Bolton. Would be a fantastic signing nevertheless.

Goalkeeping wise, a veteran understudy still able enough to push Cookie is still needed in my opinion. God help us if we ever have to put Burge between the sticks again!

Excitement for the new season is beginning to build!!

Don't think Bigi is as bad as some are making out. He does give away possession more than most, but often because he is attempting ambitious forward passes.
Much rather have him than Connor Thomas in our squad.
Even if he's not having the best of games, he doesn't hide, which so many midfielders do...

Interesting that TM is looking for a replacement for Fleck. We can only assume Gadzhev will be a regular starter this season but what does that mean for him? Possibly pushed forward into a more attacking role? Or will Vincelot be played more defensively or perhaps lose his mainstay spot in the starting XI and play a squad role?

Might even just be in pure numbers; if Fleck signed we'd have had him, Gadzhev, Rose and Vincelot so we're missing that extra body.

Possibly. I always had it in my mind that TM would give that 4th spot to either Stevenson or Lawton however that is a risk, especially as CCFC has never been gifted when it comes to injuries. If worst came to worst and both Gadzhev and Vincelot ended up with lengthy spells of the injury table, lumping that amount of expectation on two young guns is a recipe for disaster, especially now the emergency loan window has been scrapped. Lawton obviously is coming off the back of a serious injury and Stevenson is still very young and raw

Been a rumour for a while, but the more I think of it, the more I think it will be David Wheater

Sent from my HTC 10 using Tapatalk

Or Matthew Kilgallon possibly? Surely David Wheater's wage demands will be far higher compared to what we'd be willing to offer?

And it appears that he really wants to play for us. This just about tips the scales in his favour for me. His weakness is his complete inconsistency, which is something he can address with decent coaching and management.

This is all still pure speculation anyway. It maybe someone else who's training with us next week and signs on 1st August.

Sorry, but I think Gael Birigirimana might just be better than you Nick.

I know that, but it doesn't mean we should sign people because they want to play for us. The same as we shouldnt sign people based on them being ex players or cov kids.

It should be on merit at the time and how they fit into the manager's system.

I think an affinity with the club is just a nice bonus rather than a deciding factor. I'd happily take back Leon Clarke who travels round clubs so much he must have his own caravan.

well, its not Simon Cox who some linked to us

League One side Southend United have signed former Reading striker Simon Cox on a two-year contract.

Cox, 29, was released this summer after scoring nine goals in 60 games in his second spell at the Royals.

The ex-Nottingham Forest, West Brom and Swindon man, capped 30 times by the Republic of Ireland, has found the net 78 times in 296 career league matches.

Shrimpers boss Phil Brown said he hoped Cox would make up the goals lost from Jack Payne's move to Huddersfield.

Andy Turner says it isn't Bigi signing tomorrow. He seems to think two will sign this week though so Bigi could be later this week.
