Brentford now have an academy, this year was their first season. We played them first game.

Is theirs Cat 1? Don’t get me wrong - I get the reasons for the categories and your nephew must be a seriously good talent.

but outside of that Cat 1 there isn’t much point in having an academy - it must be costing us money now given the compensation system

I doubt they'd pass a rule allowing just Jack in the academy....Seems a bit like Yorkshire only allowing county born players...

You can jack it in. Brentford did it a few years back. As someone mentioned a few posts back they’ve got one now.

Cat 2. Aiming to get up to Cat 1.

After the introduction of EPPP, Brentford (and others) decided it simply wasn't in their interests to invest in developing young players only to have them poached by bigger clubs for a fraction of their true worth. As with pretty much everything in football, it's all dictated by the Premier League & what is best for them. Once in the PL they have decided they want back in as EPPP is now to their benefit.
