What takes place in the dressing room should stay in the dressing room.

That's it!!!
They're doing exactly THAT! Strategy, tactics, formations...all being left in the dressing room instead of ring taken into the pitch!

I've got to say that in my opinion Reda could have made it back to Heathrow by Friday afternoon, had he so wished, and made the game on Saturday. Not ideal preparation, but it's what I'd have expected from the captain.

He arrived back in Manchester on Friday night according to CWR. There is nevertheless a big difference between a goalkeeper coming back from Europe and playing the next day and an outfield player coming back from Africa

He was coming back from Morroco, Agadir, which is hardly deepest darkest Africa. And as I pointed out, and checked myself, he could have got flights that would have put him in Heathrow by about four on Friday afternoon. Why he chose to take the longer combination of flights to arrive in Manchester late at night is anyone's guess.

Pressley though, who I'd venture knows more about the situation than either you or I, or anyone else here, didn't sound particularly impressed. Personally, I'm not massively fussed either way, but I can understand why the manager might feel slightly irked.

Carroll, I note, played on Friday night, caught an early flight on Saturday, and then drove himself to the game from Heathrow. That's a remarkable attitude I'd say...

Would you be in a rush to get back to cov?
Maybe he knows he is finished here? Let's see what the next team selection has in store

Carroll is a profesional athelte who has had a long career, and has played at the top of the game.

Johnson is .... er is (in name only), hasn't and hasn't.

I have been to Morocco - two hour flight, couple of hours messing around with trains.

If I was the team captain, being paid x thousand a week to play for Coventry, I'd feel obliged to try to make myself available for every game possible, yes. Wouldn't you?

It could be it wouldn't make sense - as mentioned above for an outfield player two games in three days plus travelling might well not be a smart move from a performance point of view, but in some ways that's a separate issue.

Like I say, I'm not hammering Reda for it, but I think the interview with SP suggested that he wasn't best impressed.

Fwiw I hope that Johnson isn't finished here, I'm not convinced he's a great player but the team seems to do better with him in the side.

I think people are being overly critical on Reda here. Had Roy Carroll not done what he did, this wouldn't even have been discussed further. I'm a Paddy from the North of the Island so am pleased that our national keeper has shown such commitment, albeit to the detriment of Cov at the weekend.

But to be fair, I can't think of one other incidence of a player playing international football and then flying overnight to play a game the next day. The decision was probably taken before Reda flew out that he wasn't going to play as it's the norm.

Carroll has just proved that the norm is no longer the norm. He's also a keeper which does make a massive difference.

In fairness WM, Reda played on the Thursday rather than the Friday, but I hear what you're saying here. I suspect that it was agreed beforehand, as you say, but the tone of the interview with SP just had an edge to it when this came up, which makes me think that SP wasn't happy even if he'd agreed. That's nothing new though, it seems that all managers hate their players playing internationals.

Regardless, although my notional roots are from the South (or West, technically), it's always good to see Norn Iron do well. I know a good few of their fans as exiles. Good lads all, but do not try to keep up with them at the bar! ;)

Strachan used to spend half his lifetime bitching about Hadji and Chippo playing the African Cup of Nations... as though it were a surprise when they were signed!

Before he went there was a suggestion he could be back in time. Pressley said he would be assessed on Friday/Saturday morning as to whether he would play, no idea if Pressley just decided he was too fatigued or whether Johnson asked to be left out or possibly wasn't back in time or what.

Forget him missing the game ... if true that he pinned SP against the wall then the bloke should be out of the club today.

Off topic, but man I miss Chippo. Hadji was the better technical player without a doubt, but Chippo loved playing football, it just shone through. So many players now seem to see being on the pitch as a chore...

Shame we ruined him by moving him to the right wing!

Agree WM. I think the issue is that we did not have one shot at the tired and knackered goalkeeper. If we had had 3 and two went in we would have said Reda was right.

It's great to see the national team do well Duffer. I was 2 when Armstrong scored the winner against Spain in 82 so my 'World Cup Finals' have been wins over Spain and England in the past 5-10 years. I've also had to endure embarrassment of losses and draws to the might of the likes of San Marino, Faroe Islands and Lichtenstein! However, being a Cov fan, I should be used to such feelings!

The whole change in qualifying (Top 2 now qualify and 3rd goes into a playoff) has no doubt improved our chances and I think there is more of a level playing field in the international game now. The so called minnows are getting results all over the board more regularly than they used to which makes the whole thing a lot more interesting. Here's hoping 'Norn Iron' and RoI are in France (?) in 2016 and I'll buy you a pint and see how we get on at the bar with the rest of them!

Happy to join that party if allowed - COYBIG (and if we both qualify of course)

If Reda did assault his manager surely that's a sackable offence ? Can you imagine that ever happening to say Fergie or Brian Clough, they'd never play football again !

He's probably a bit miffed having made the effort to get only find the warm-up was the hardest part. Could've had a similar work out in the concourse at the airport with a couple of volunteers.

Yep, he probably worked up more of a sweat carrying his suitcase to his car. :)

If it is true, and that is IF, then SP has a bit of a 'Hobson's choice' situation. With such a weak squad, can he really ditch one of this leagues average players (But still well above the standard of the majority of the current squad) because they had a fall out? If Reda did loose it, it shows he has emotion and the aggression to fight his position. SP has just got to get him to feel emotional and aggressive about the CCFC plight and target that energy into getting us out of the mess we are in. If SP was in Redas' face (as he should be if he feels he isn't delivering) then expect a response, its a big boy's game, he has to live with it.

[I await the harassment brigade comments]

There's a code of conduct in football,or there used to be,that you do not lay a finger on your manager. Then again we were scared of most teachers when I was a youngster and you wouldn't even answer back at them, but now they get assaulted on a daily basis !

I know several that have never been assaulted at all - let alone by pupils.

Tabloid media agenda: -
1...throw enough mud & it'll stick.
2...repeat it often enough & it'll become accepted as standard

If Reda did grab Pressley he should go or discipline or lack of it is undermined.Hope it's just idle rumour and gossip because we need Reda !

Wasn't it Jackson? That was hinted at earlier in the thread and he's been left out of the squad since and suddenly made available.

http://www.coventrytelegraph.net/sp...coventry-city-manager-steven-pressley-8138011

Steven Pressley has challenged talismanic Sky Blues skipper Reda Johnson to play more games for Coventry City.
The 26-year-old defender has missed half of City’s games since signing from Sheffield Wednesday in the summer through suspension, injury and international duty, and his manager is demanding greater commitment.

Johnson was ruled out of the Sky Blues’ last two games because he was playing in an international friendly for Benin in Morocco last Thursday.
And while Pressley didn’t criticise him for that, he made a point of expressing his admiration for Notts County keeper Roy Carroll who played for Northern Ireland in Romania on Friday evening and travelled back overnight to get to the Ricoh for the game.
“Reda’s come back unscathed; he’s fit and trained the last two days, morning and afternoon, so I’m pleased at that,” said the City boss, who had made his feelings clear to the captain.
“But I think we need more out of Reda because he’s only played 11 of our 22 games this season and the reality is that he's only finished nine. I need more because there’s no hiding his influence.
“He’s a big, big player and I brought him to the club because he’s an outstanding centre-half but you need your captain on the pitch more times than 11 in 22 games, so it’s something he has to improve on.
“I’ve spoken to him on that, that he has to be on the pitch more. He has to be on the training pitch more and on the field of play more to fulfil his potential because I think, in there, there is a terrific centre-back but he’s not fulfilling that at the moment by only playing that amount of games.”

Looking at his record at Hillsborough it’s clear a pattern has emerged in recent years.
In his first full season with the Owls he played 30 times out of 54 games, scoring seven goals.
In his second camapign in 2012/13 he only managed 17 appearances out of 51 Wednesday fixtures, scoring six goals, and in his last season with the club he played 21 times out of a possible 51, scoring three goals.
Asked if he thinks Johnson can improve his attendance record and fulfil his potential, Pressley said:
“I believe he will. I’ve had quite a frank and in-depth conversation with him and made it clear that I need more games out of him because he is such a big influence on the team.
“He rubs off on the rest of them but you can’t do that playing 11 in 22. It has to be much higher than that, and I’ve told him that.”

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Not sure what he's getting at here, Pressley knew he was an international when he was signed. The red card was unfortunate but they happen in football and it's not as if Reda gets injured on purpose. He may as well be telling Fleck he needs to be taller or blame Tudgay for having no pace.

I'm slightly confused as o the point he's making too, he did duck out of his first international stint too but then got himself injured.

You can't argue with his influence though - According to my maths.. In the 8 league games in which Reda has started we've taken 15 points - we've taken two points out of the other 9.
