So underwhelmed! (1 Viewer)

Never have I felt so underwhelmed the day before the new season.

Sine I can remember as soon as the season had finished, regardless of how poorly we had done I always had blind faith that the next season we would do better. Players would arrive and I would defend their poor reps because they were now Coventry players. Yet the day before we play Leicester I can’t see how we are better for losing King, Gunnar, Ozzy, O’Halloran, Carsley, McIndoe not to mention the injured players with no one signed! Once we start playing a few games all it takes is a few more injuries due to our small squad and we will be stuffed.

Apparently we offered King a new contract worth about 10k. Where has that money gone? Surely we could have signed a couple of decent free players on 5k a week?

We're all feeling the same mate, but we keep going regardless.

Just because we might do okay.

I think we will start off fine. Going to really hit us when we suffer a few injuries and have no depth to bring in adequate replacements from the squad. If and when the injuries kick in we could well end up treading water and we might just get the post-Christmas slump in early this season.

Spot on mate.

I think these comments are somewhat disrespectful. AT and the team haven't kicked a ball so we shouldn't jump to conclusions just yet.
I would agree that our owners should open their eyes and smell the coffee, and I believe one of the reasons for their inactivity in the transfer market is because they were lied to by RR and because he has something to do with the takeover they are refusing to invest.
But saying that the new season is upon us. Yes we are all saddened by there not being new players but GIVE THE GUYS WE HAVE A CHANCE TO SHINE WITHOUT US BEING JUDGMENTAL.

As I say, it is the lack of depth that will hurt us the most. Think at the start of the campaign we can put out a pretty competitive first team 11. Let's just cross our fingers and hope we don't get the likes of Sheff, Juke, Clingan and Cranie injured for any length of time this season.

It's as if you've got inside my head, read my thoughts, and then typed them down for me to save me the time.

Come on fellas, we cant be defeated before a ball is kicked, get up there and give it your all, we really do have our backs to wall however something might just spark from it. Yes we could have signed a few free transfers etc but what the point of bringing in players who are sitting there collecting a nice wage while thinking "its Coventry innit!

I would much prefer to see a squad of players who are willing to fight for each other and some kids who are ready to make a name for themselves in Sky Blue rather than a team of people who dont particularly care about anything other than themselves.

I feel for AT, if king had stayed and we had signed a couple of decent players then things would b totally different, I certainly won't b giving him or the players we have left any grief ,
But I'm sorry to lose your 3 best players and 3 or 4 squad players and not replace them (and Murphy ain't no westwood) from a squad that finished 18th then I'm afraid we will probably go down
And Sisu will b stuck with a Div 1 club :'(

I am not so pessimistic. Well, not yet anyway. Think we will start off okay. If we suffer injuries we could well be reliant on kids in the months to come. I really hope that they can make the step-up should this scenario arise.

i just put tht on another thread too, i feel sorry for the manager and the payers. they of course want frsh blood in the squad, and they havent been given the support by the owners. it is the owners we need to concentrate on booing if results go against us. i like Thorn he is a straigt talker and doesnt make silly promises, he has had all his best players taken, the fact is the younger players and the older players have to step it up a gear it is that simple. we have to support them pasionately as long as they are giving 100%, and with thorn i think they will.

For crying out loud! This squad isn't bad; we'll give any team in the division a damned good game. I admit that the squad is small, and injuries/suspensions will affect us badly, but the transfer window doesn't close for a few weeks yet, and soon there will be quite a few players looking for a club - when the Premiership teams declare their squads. A couple of tasty loan deals could be on the cards.

Cheer up.:)

we've seen where we end up after starting each year with optimism so logically a pessimistic approach means we'll finish in the playoffs. and we've finally got a decent manager playing attractive football so its surely not all bad.

Maybe then if we say we are terrible and certain to go down, hardly winning a game this season, we will finish 15 points clear at the top of the division!

We might give teams a good game,, but the whole point is to win them and this current squad is not going to do that...And its not all about the ability of the players, its the squads depth and inexperience that will hurt. As for bringing players in all well and good saying it but surely the non signing of an outfield player all summer tells you we cant compete with anyone in this league when it comes to wages....

i think our starting line up will be able to compete with any other team in the league, however as others have pointed out, once we start getting injuries, we will suffer and no amount of squad harmony or team spirit will be able to compete with experienced players. (when we rely on 3-4 u20's)

I am keeping everything i can crossed we don't get a good beating tomorrow, which i'm sure we won't,but i wonder if this would finally make SISU see the squad for what it is and put their short arms in there long pockets.

I agree with the opening poster. It's almost impossible to remain optimistic with each passing day, despite not yet kicking a ball in anger. I can find barely any crumbs of comfort and I fear a long hard season ahead.

My biggest concern is that as people get twitchy, more of our better players or young prospects will decide to jump ship (or be told to via the board) and we could lose the one shining light that we have in Andy Thorn, whether sacked or of his own accord.

I don't believe it makes us ledd of a fan to add a sense of realism and the team will continue to have my full support, but I know that I'm not hopeful and I'm nowhere near as excited as I usually am the day before a new season.

I'm just as excited as I have ever been.

Never been worried before prior to the season starting though and this year I have to say I am a tad worried.

I'm worried, but not underwhelmed yet. Reserving judgement for Saturday and praying to anything that will listen that we don't do as badly as we all think.
That said, i actually felt not bothered about last season or the season before that (last season was the first time i didn't renew my season ticket).

I know it is difficult and downright frustrating being a Sky Blue fan sometimes - and lets be honest those sometimes have been more regular recently - but it seems to me that a big proportion of city fans will be going to the match on a down tomorrow

That wont help the team, and from that attitude & frustration it is but a small step to getting on the teams back - right now thats the last thing they need they know it is going to tough they dont need our own fans adding to that.

If we go to the match looking to be defeated, it will communicate to the players and we dont need months of Fester gloating. So please shake it off and get behind the lads. Saw pictures on BBC the other day of Stoke fans proclaiming themselves as the 12th man - thats what our team needs of us.

So what that Fester have spent 10m doesnt give them the right to beat us - we have suffered plenty of bigger shocks in the past losing to lower teams than us beating fester - fact is right now we have no reason to look at any other team in this division and think we are inferior with our first 11. Yes we have lost players, yes right now the squad is thin in numbers but we have a team it could have been much worse!

PUSB !!!!! and bring on the new season !
