Not really having the best year so far if im honest, still fighting prostate cancer , have been for the last 11 years or so. My last results were very good but due to intense pain in my back my better half made me , forced me to go in for scans earlier on my back. The cancer hadn't spread to my bones and in that regard like i say those results were very good.
It did leave some issues to be looked at though...namely due to the treatment i now have osteoporosis in my bones and have the scans showed i have broken my back in four places. ( no wonder things were so painful ). The surgeon wants to operate and fill these breaks and cavity's in my back with a sort of bone cement stuff.
My worry is having shielded and done everything by the book as regards this virus , the thought of hospital and ops with a load of sick people is quite worrying given this virus is still out there. i should mention also im also in the vulnerable group. Oh and i have also lost about 3 to 4 inches height due to my knackered back, this op would give me at least half that height back. So would you chance it on the op or continue laying low for now.
Ps , the op can only be done now in the next week or so otherwise bones start to fuse together and cant be operated on.
Other than that everythings fine.....

Firstly, god bless you mate. Get the op done. Hospitals are brilliant at moment, we have amazing medical staff and as you say it is now or never. You may start to feel so much better once back pain has eased. Keep fighting

I'm not sure that this is the best pace for medical advice since we have pound-shop experts in a number of areas, only you know your body and what you can take but I certainly wouldn't put my life on hold for Covid as this could be ongoing for some time and with a reduced R rating now feels as good a time as any with heightened cleanliness and limited visitors so personally I'd probably get it done but not right for everyone.

Whatever you decide, best of luck mate and keep going on your great fight, sounds like you deserve to get a break.

I’d get in there and get it done mate. Testing in hospitals is brilliant now and chances of you picking up covid are low.
It’ll make a huge impact to your life, get it done buddy

I believe most hospitals have separated into 'hot' (covid) and 'cold' (non-covid) areas, I'm sure you'll be fine and there will be heightened infection control procedures in place

Sorry to hear about your troubles mate.
I'd imagine if you speak to someone at the hospital they will be able to give you reassurances about the measures in place to.prevent the spread of covid.

If you're happy with what they tell you go for it. It sounds like it will have a hugely positive impact on your quality of life.

If it was me- I'd get it done. If they are saying to get it done then they must be reasonably confident that you'll be ok in terms of the virus, but I'd also have a chat with them beforehand to understand their COVID measures, so that you go in with peace of mind as opposed to being worried (very understandably) about the unknown. They'll understand that.

Take away as much uncertainty as possible beforehand, get in there & get out and enjoy life, you deserve it.

I'd get it done. A fused back would be agony longer term. I can appreciate your concerns about the virus but if it can't wait get it done.

Real sorry to hear of your woes derby, known of you since TWT and always think your input is genuine and hert felt. You're a good guy.

Morphene / pain killers are helping but you can't stay on those forever. I'd seriously consider getting to done now while the Covid rates are going dow - you don't want to be suffering over winter especially if they start to peak again. There's always the risk of infections in hospitals, but as some have said, I would think the staff are being careful and lots of testing being done. Good luck mate, hope whatever you decide pans out.

Go and get the op done. My mate had to have his bowel & a tumour removed & had a stoma bag fitted at Coventry & Warwick 2 weeks ago and he said that all the wards were isolated from cov-id and for a couple of days he was the only person on 1 ward. He's been fighting terminal metastic cancer for 2 1/2 years and has the most positive attitude and is doing brilliant and has already asked the surgeon if he can reverse the stoma op!!

Get it done mate, hospitals aren’t full of sober, medically trained people with a crap ton of cleaning and PPE supplies. At this point probably a load of immune staff too. You’d be in more danger at Tesco or the pub IMO.

You know i've suffered for years with my back and moving out here for the heat really helped me.
I try not to take many painkillers anymore after what happened to Julie and you don't want to be on Morphine for the rest of your life mate.

Always felt you were a top bloke, watching you post on here over the years.

Personally I would go for the op too. Hard choice to make, but I went to the GP with a bad back just last week and it was like a government, top secret lab setup there. The masks and shields and gloves etc. So many precautions in place now and I would like to think you will be fine.

Just wish to see the pain gone for you, mate. Backache is a real bummer and can bring you down so much.

Hope you can be free of pain asap and please do let us all know how it is going for you and keep telling your story.

So, just to say, today I had to go to hospital for a blood test. Not the same thing, obviously, but quite frankly I felt more reassured there than at a supermarket.

Silly thing is as we have so many beaches ours are still Sparce, Puerto Rico beach being the most populated at weekends when the Spanish come down from the North.

Just a quick update, well the op went all fine and well although my back is still very sore. Having to take things very easy , no stretching, bending etc. The choice to have the op was the right one as you all alluded to.
Have to say a great big thanks though to the staff and nurses at Derby royal hospital. Absolute gems all of them .
