Possibly Port Vale by the end of the week.

The whole world are still having financial problems, look at Greece for instance, as well as Spain, Italy etc and I think football is now catching up in the financial merry go round.

Footballs governing bodies have got to tighten the rules NOW on clubs spending too much. So many clubs have gone into admin over the last few years, only to be saved. But saved at the cost of local businesses and the tax payer.

Is it going to be a case when people complain to the council that their road is dangerous but do nothing about it until there is a very serious injury or death?

In one respect, the fact it’s their 3rd time in 14 years. I hope Portsmouth goes out of business as this will probably be the 'kick in the balls' (pun intended) needed to get things sorted, as it will only take a large club for everyone associated with football to look at themselves.

Said it before on here, but when i first went up highfield rd it cost me 15 pence. Now before you all laugh at that, that was easily affordable on my pocket money from my parents.
Fast forward some 40 years and a child now would need pocket money of some £20, maybe a bit more for a program and say mcdonalds, bus fare. Many people cannot afford that. Players wages(even for at best for an average championship player) is £10,000 per week aprox. Factor in dwindling crowds and its easy to see where the money goes. Many clubs pay more out in wages than they take on the gate.
The whole of football needs to wake up and realise this cannot carry on. More and more clubs will keep going into admin, and now its not even seen as shameful. Its just something that happens.

When i first went to Highfield Rd it cost me £4, but with a junior discount card cost me £2. A programme cost 30p. Bus fare from a village outside Cov 50p whilst the fares in Cov on the local buses cost just 17p.

Average wage for the UK was about £100 - £150 per week, footballers wage around £700 - £1,000, or so reported when Cov won the cup. So footballers were on approx. 10% more than Joe Bloggs.

Today footballers wages are out of control. Average wage for the UK is around £400 per week, while footballers are around £10,000. NOW approx. 25% more than Joe Bloggs

Even the F.A. were setting a ridiculous standard paying Cappello £6,000,000 per year. Stupid money.

I think I paid about 1/6d (7½p) for my first game (well someone paid for me!). Wasn't it Jimmy Hill who advocated for higher wages for footballers because "it was such a short career"? Agreeable in those days, but now it has simply got out of hand. How much are the top players on? Messi and the like? Hundreds of thousands PER WEEK! Bloody ridiculous!

This is an excellent point. Just wanted to check the maths though as surely £700-£1000 a week is 700% - 1000% more than Joe Bloggs?
Excellent comparison though as using your figures the players now earn on average 2500% more than Joe Bloggs :thinking about:
