So who realistically are the teams left fighting for 5th and 6th (2 Viewers)

Can't see anyone below Boro at this point, although I think Boro themselves are also pretty shite and will fall away.
I don't think a great deal of WBA or my pre season dark horses Bristol City, but both are tough to beat and thus probably more suited to running the course.
I think we're a better team than both as it happens but we need to prove it.

The derby team not so much
The Sunderland team oh yes

I agree Clint totally good spot on Sheffield Wednesday. A lot to do but fixtures are quite kind to them. They a quite a good team . To string that consistency of results together is a big ask but they do have a chance.

I also discount the rest now apart from Bristol City ,West Bromwich and Middlesboro.
WBA are playing both Bristol City and Coventry City away. I don't like them but they are very consistent and solid and very strong contender for play off spot.
Bristol City are on a great run. Their fixtures are a bit tricky but not as bad as some people think.
Middlesboro have the talent but just seem to be playing poorly. I'd be reluctant to write them off purely based on their talent.
Coventry City must be buoyed by a top performance and result yesterday. Schedule and in particular the timing of games is awkward though.

With 8 games to go you would think any side within 6 points of 6th still has a chance.

But realistically I wouldn't look past Middlesbrough in 8th. Can't see where any of the sides below them could suddenly pull a winning run from....other than Sheffield Wednesday and they need a result today against Sheffield United. Because of their poor GD they need 7 more points than WBA and 9 more points than ourselves.

I still think we could be challenging Sunderland for 4th place by the end of the season. We will have to see how they bounce back from being totally outplayed yesterday. And they have lost another player to injury which could easily be season ending. The ones they do get back won't have much time to get back to match fitness and sharpness.

At this stage it is a very exciting division still with lots to play for all over the table. 2 out of 3 for automatic promotion. Down to 12th within 7 points of play offs and at other end up to 15th within 7 points of the drop zone.

So only Norwich and Preston without much to play for.

To answer the question potentially down to 12th but realistically think it's 2 from 4 but do agree let's see what happens to Sunderland as let's be honest Oxford, Stoke and Derby looked more dangerous than them at this moment in time so could be 3 from 5.

I thought Bristol City looked pretty decent on Friday night, though they were playing Norwich who look way off it atm.
As others have already said, I can’t see anyone beyond Boro getting involved with the exception of Wednesday if the win the derby today.

Everyone from 5th to 12th is in the mix.
Some have it in their own hands, others are just waiting for those above to have a slip up.

The table at same stage in our play off run... The 2 teams in 5 & 6 were 4 & 3pts clear... and messed it up.

Sunderland were the bolter... 7pts behind.

All to play for! Screenshot_20250316_105025_Chrome.jpg

Think boro ans West brom....they scare me..their squad os massively underperforming just like ours did earlier in season.

Fair play to Bristol City (cant see it lasting.)

Its not done and dusted we need keep on picking up points.

Definately do not wanna go into last game of season with boro neesing to beat us. Need that to be a dead game

They will be a lot more worried about playing us than we are playing them. It wasn't that long ago that they were so far ahead of us that most thought it near impossible to catch them.

Well here we are. 2 points ahead of WBA and 5 points ahead of Middlesbrough. That's a lot with only 8 games to go. 10 wins from 12 games. 21 goals for 11 against. Just given Sunderland their biggest defeat of the season and did it in style. Our main striker is back and bangs in 3 goals. Not even Sheffield United will be looking forward to our game expecting a win.

With our run over the last couple of months, I’m surprised anyone is writing off anyone else in the mix for a decent run of their own.
Not writing anything off. But there's no sign of it from most clubs. Bristol City are looking good but they don't have an easy run of games.

Maybe so, but that kind of run is vanishingly rare. Blackburn and Watford need 18 points from from a possible 24 to reach 70, and even that is not guaranteed to get 6th, and both have poor GD.

Bristol will drop off because their run in is horrible. The runners and riders:
WBA
Boro
Bristol
Ourselves

Why are their games that hard?

I'm not so sure. Bristol City v WBA will be massive. I can see the winner of that joining us in the playoffs. As things stand a draw would be excellent for us.
