Exactly right. Some of the resident geniuses on here namely the #listentomenow #taxiforrobins types have never played the game at any level - and are simply clueless as to what it takes and the fine margins in professional sports.

It’s all too easy to hurl abuse and try to destroy players from behind a keyboard after what is seen as a bad performance.

It got to the stage earlier this season when some loser was writing ‘AB is shit at football’ missing the fact that it’s logically impossible to have a career in the professional ranks by being ‘shit at football.’

I will never understand the need to deride and not support our players. Constructive criticism more than ok but some of the uninformed nonsense and abuse - not so much.

Yeah but why didn’t he get tight to his man and stop the cross coming in robins out

lol- we have some of the most cynical, negative fans in the country. Also a very high number of people that just love to start their posts with “I’ve been saying for ages”, “I called it”, “Just like I said weeks ago” as they’re clamouring to prove that they knew someone was shit way before anyone else did.
Oh the absolute irony of this statement.

Our supporters have had to endure more crap in the last 20 years than most supporters will in a lifetime so spare us the usual you- know- better bullshit.

None of our fans are garbage, yeah some of us may have different views but we all wants best for the club

Ain't buying this 'some of our fans are garbage' shite
The guy who posted this is the biggest c**t out of all of us. I wouldn't take any notice pal. Just another attention seeking drip.

It’s also a city thing. If you ever have the misfortune to visit any kind of Coventry site, Facebook or whatever- it’s a perpetual turgid moan fest.

There are too many students, too many new buildings, buildings are the wrong colour, nothing for locals to do, parking too expensive, the Wave was a terrible idea. city of culture will do nothing for me etc etc. it’s literally a non stop cascade of complaints and grumbles.

I’ve lived in quite a few places and Coventry has a much higher proportion of moaners than all of them. I’m guessing that attitude to life spills over into the football team for quite a few of them.

You seem to have a thing about self-loathing. England specifically has a massive racism problem compared to others. Coventry people are far more negative than other places. Everywhere has these problems and a vocal few who will do nothing but complain and look for faults. Sometimes it'll be a different set complaining because some people don't want things to change and therefore complain at new stuff. Others who want new stuff because the old isn't working get frustrated because the old stuff is kept or protected. Happens everywhere.

If you look at the struggles on the field for the best part of 50 years and the last 20 or so off it it's amazing Coventry fans aren't even more negative than they are.

Have you checked out the meltdown of Arsenal fans over the last 10 years even though they were perpetual CL qualifiers. Man U gfans threatening the CEO. Liverpool complained like bitches in the 90's/00's of being poor and they won the CL! Even this season Man City fans are complaining about the results even though they're reigning Champions and were in the league we're in now 20 years ago. It's a human trait, not just one specifically linked to places you're familiar with.

Correct. It comes to something when people are actively bending stats to try and justify the constant moaning.

What are you on about? Bending stats? The comment made was that we are a very good side, but that we should temper that a little because we're not all conquering and we're perhaps not the position we should be based on the quality we have. That's not 'moaning', it's just an observation.

To illustrate: I sell books online. 95% of customers are fine. 4% are lovely and we sometimes chat about all sorts of things, including books. But there is a 1% that are bloody awful; dishonest; rude and aggressive.

Listen mate. I wouldn't have complained if that Margaret Thatcher photo book you sent me didn't have loads of pages stuck together.

I was really looking forward to fingering my way through that.

This is one of the best posts I have ever read on here, if not the best. As far as I can tell every player currently in the team is giving 100%. I always laugh when I hear or read that so-and-so gave 110%, you can't give more than 100%. Every moan about a player, a poor pass, or a missed chance is doing as much damage to our promotion chances as the on-field activities by damaging confidence, or creating a negative mindset within the team. This team will take us to the end of the season, no one else is coming in, and they are good enough to get us promotion. I'm not saying it will happen but the team is good enough whatever happens in individual games re: missed chances or a poor individual performance. Moaning and negativity only makes that less likely.

That's batshit. Comments re missed chances made on an internet forum are effecting our promotion chances. You're trolling right?

In all my years watching City I can't remember the support in the ground being as positive as it has been this season. At Bristol on Saturday, at 1-0 down, I didn't hear a single negative comment shouted at the players, and it's been like that all season.

I guarantee that the likes of Pompey, Sunderland and Ipswich have seen far more negativity from the stands than we have.

I also guarantee that if we fail to go up there will be people on here blaming the fans for it. Can see it a mile off. Utter bollocks.

You should have been on Facebook on Saturday then. Our center back was everything from shit to fucking useless to we should get rid of him and that was before his error(that bit was a lie)

Well fortunately not many of our players would have been on the Facebook page at that moment. That place is a cesspit at the best of times. At games though, the support has been the most positive I can remember in all the years following the club.

And of course, call out idiots slating players, I've done the same, but people have been jumped on for making quite innocuous comments. I'm not sure whysome people are so insecure.

You mean like everything you have to say on the E.U. thread about everyone who didn't vote the way you did.
You're a fucking hypocrite mate. Spare us the "I've lived in a lot of places so I know more than you" bollocks. We all have. It's the same everywhere only we've got IKEA closing down and no one else has.

Great post. When was the last time a Coventry city team had a period of more than three consecutive years of " success" since Jimmy Hill ? Most of the bigger clubs see "success"as winning trophies. Others as cup runs or pushing for promotion/top six.
For city fans it's been about avoiding relegation almost yearly apart from the end of excellent Milne period until the Sillett/Curtis days. Beyond that I can't really remember a period when , for a few years , our supporters were offered anything that didn't involve at some point possible relegation or financial ruin.
So here we are in division 3 with a manager who has offered us more cause for optimism than any manager for a generation at a time when the position of the club has never been more precarious.
I think the majority of our supporters have a grip on reality more than most.

I have no time to be reading essays on the subject, suffice to say the sudden defensiveness tells me all I need to know.

This place was a barrage of moaning last night, the original poster called it right.

The support at matches is second to none. Its the armchair managers on here that I think he's talking about- Godden is garbage, McFazdean is useless, Baka is rubbish, Robins' has a piss easy job anyway- we've seen it all over the course of the season.

Now where's that "taxi for Robins"

Well I've been called Burges lover Dad everything just for sticking up for him.
And that's on here.
I know players make mistakes they are human but some are just not liked, and like Burge were jumped on and blamed for every loss.
Last night Marosi's kicking was not very good in the first half most were put straight out of play. If that had been Burge this site would have been in meltdown.

But the point being made was that the support at the match was supportive. Facebooks not likely to be a love fest is it?

I've heard that there were religious reasons behind the shooting. These things are quite common amongst birds of pray.

I've noticed from a young age that Coventry does seem to have a disproportionate amount of negative people. Blame it on WW2 or whatever but the amount of times Cov people say e.g "I fuckin hate this dump, it's a shithole" or "I'm just waiting for move somewhere else" is far higher than you'd hear in other major cities.

I do however think that this attitude galvanises a lot of City supporters who are actually proud of Coventry and want to represent the city in a better light which makes our fan base, especially the away contingent, a force to be reckoned with. It's just those negative armchair twats who spoil the overall picture.

I know this is all anecdotal but I believe there's some truth in it.

The perfect summary, Mr Martinez, you nailed it.
