South Stand for home fans? (1 Viewer)

Whilst I agree with the closure of the North Stand, why don't the club seem to ever look at opening the (insert latest sponsor here) South Stand for home fans? I can't imagine costs would increase an awful lot (you can still realistically have a block separating home & away fans) and it will only make for a better atmosphere as we'll be closer to the away contingent.

I can remember a trial run the club done back when it was still the Jewson Stand (2010/2011??) in which they allowed ST holders to sit there & whilst many home fans didn't bother with it, it improved the match day experience and remains amongst my best memories so far of the Ricoh - as close to the 'West Terrace experience' as you're likely to get.

I only attended a handful of home games last season, but the banter between home & away fans was pretty much non-existent. There is no need for 4/5 blocks of segregation.

B11. Away fans move to B7. 3 blocks of segregation. All down to SAG though.

I may be wrong but I thought the issue with home/away fans sharing the south stand, I not being able to segregate fans in the concourse not the seating area.

First ever game against QPR the stand was split and the concourse spilt too. Crewe JPT likewise and gillingham

I know we had fans in there but I wasn't in that stand, have they got shutters or was it segregated by police/stewards?

Didn't know that. Personally I would rather they moved the away fans nearer to singers corner. I think people are just going to have to grin and bear it this season, and see how it goes. I think moving people to the south stand will just add more problems. Hopefully they will sell enough ST's get playing winning football and we start selling enough to open the north stand.

I was in block 10 that season they opened the south stand to home fans. Shutters in the concourse keep you seperated but there wasn't much up top. Guess the safety guys also like to bring up it was the worst season for violence outside the ground for years.

The south stand would be great for home fans if the attendance was good enough. Both that and singers corner made a great atmosphere at the return game, but if it was empty, it would be as bad as the telegraph stand.

Where away support increases either.
>Move away support to north stand. Or by exception displace CCFC supporters to north stand temporarily as most premier league clubs do when FA CUP ticketing mandate demands more tickets for away fans.

Health and safety re safety zone etc. Every premier league game I watch...the 'safe zone' isn't a great distance at all- 5-10 seats and yet for league 1 its deemed necessary?.
Reference the Vormitory, I'm sure for minimal cost a barrier of some description could be erected, manned by stewards- subject to Wasps approval?
I really cant see what the difficulty is and it would permit those CCFC fans with desires to sit behind the goal to do so- thus in part negating North stand closure protests?

Love to see the away fans much closer. It's funny to see how much quieter people are when there isn't a 100 yard safety gap :)

My person favorite is after the game, when in the concourse, everyone is singing/chanting and the minute you step outside the gate, shhhh....... :facepalm:

Used to love it in wt7 at HR when they'd sell out the lower tier as well. Used to be pretty interesting at times

The only possible block that would be available in the South stand is B11. The proposed Block for away fans is 7 (837 seats) which is pretty much in the corner. B6 has to be segregation. B8 (1124 seats) will be used for away wheelchairs and if they need to increase the away allocation. The minimum amount of segregation needed the other side is two or three blocks. Sadly we can't have less on a regular basis due to the events after the PNE game a few years ago. Away fans can't be moved much as the layout doesn't allow it.

The trouble was outside wasn't it or am I thinking of the wrong game? Whilst no one wants to see trouble we're hardly the only team that have ever experienced crowd trouble and its not like it was a regular thing so why are we still being punished so many years later. Doesn't see to be the same for other teams.

Yeah outside. Sadly a steward died. Me and others in that meeting put forward all of your points ourselves. It seems crazy to have so much segregation for games against the teams in our league and others for that matter.

Why is minimum segregation 2-3 blocks(respectfully seems a wooly mandate) when at other grounds the same does not apply?

Someone wrote a piece recently after the sold out PNE v Man Utd FA Cup game. Apparently the front 7 rows were netted of at both ends of the ground. United had an allocation of 4800 in an end that holds 6000, supporters complained and were given the old 'health & safety' line, as if that's all you need to say to justify it.
The article questioned modern stands and stadiums, are they so badly designed as to restrict their intended capacity? Or is it the extra cautious attitudes and/or over zealousness of 'Safety Advisory Groups'. It's weird at places like Shrewsbury & Walsall where the front rows are routinely netted off seemingly for the sake of it.
