Pretty sure Jake Hesketh has played against us (been on loan at Burton, MK Dons plus Lincoln)
Yep, does ring a bell actually. Kinda irrelevant how many we've heard of though... our kids beat their kids, happy days.

If you're going to dismiss the quality of the opposition you have to question why your inferior players seem to have achieved more than your superior players.

Suarez didn't score against Liverpool last season but troy deeney did, I think we all know deeney is the better player

I'm not saying that the three goalscorers today are better players than the strikers who are currently in favour just because they scored. Not having seen the game I can't know the circumstances.

I'm just reacting to people dismissing achievements of players that they don't rate.

Some of the worst strikers in the clubs history have managed to score goals here and there... It means very little..
I dont think max is one of them BTW, but it's never a rational discussion when max biamou is involved

🖕. Rotate.

That picture!!
Who knows he may settle for fourth spot .
Don't think the manager said he's out, think like before he can work his way in.
Up to Max I think.
I agree, he could well stay... I just can't stand the illogical bedwetting over somebody so ordinary

Shouldn't have shown that hand ... you're a target now for early senility :)

I love Max but we're not the manager and I trust MR's decision if he is cashed in. Whatever happens, good TEAM performance today it seems.

I'm not here to promote Max. I accept that he is never going to be a prolific goalscorer and at 29, he's not the future. He started football late in life, relatively speaking, and lost a season through injury. It just happens that , of the few goals he has scored, some were memorable and some were important in the context. That's why some people like him, not because they rate him above others

There are a number of people on here though who just can not accept anything that he achieves. We expect Godden to score. We will expect Walker to score, just as we expected Chaplin to score. If Max is so inadequate we should be pleased with his achievements, not keep trying to justify our opinions. That's doesn't mean we expect him to be our first choice starter.

I would actually prefer for him to leave now for a lower league club where he might have a decent couple of seasons, than hang around getting the odd appearance of the bench

I agree with most of what you say... but for me Max is great off the bench, and that's his value to us, and why he's worth holding on to. Rarely seems to disappoint in that role..

Strikers who start playing professional football later in life tend to carry on playing longer at a higher level. (Ian Wright, Kevin Phillips come to mind). Players who play intensively at a younger age often burn out and start going downhill earlier (M Owen, W Rooney).

Might be because their joints / ligaments wear out. Maybe the more high level games / high impact training = more injuries which take their toll. I don’t know.

Just saying, but I can see Max playing on into his mid 30’s at the level he is now.

Dion Dublin was a regular at 18 and nearly 40 at Norwich want he?

I think part of the reason that Grendel and a few others have an anti-Max rhetoric is because half our fans think he's god so their auto-response is to even out the ridiculous bias
Guess some people have players they like and players they don't for whatever reason. I interpreted the point being made as Max once again had scored from the bench. His record last season was 11 goals in 26 appearances, most of which were from the bench. On that basis it's easy to see why people might point out that once again Max has scored off the bench. Javier Hernandez did simular numbers and role for Man Utd.
IMO Max would not be able to lead our attack but off the bench with 20 mins to go he is dangerous and stats seem to back it up.

But only 4 in 18 in the league. It's nothing about liking or not liking, he isn't good enough for a club whose aim is to stay in the championship

If we signed a player tomorrow with a record of 4 goals in 18 league one games last season this place would explode with the fact that they weren't good enough

3 of those goals were against an under 21 side - Ponticelli scores for fun against teams like that

Bismou has scored 4 goals in league 1

Other than said game I don’t think he’s scored a headed goal in professional league football

Ponticelli featured in 26 games in the promotion season and scored a goal every 109 minutes
