Really looking forward to this one which comes out on Friday. 2 geniuses of comedy in their prime but think the film is about their declining popularity and their fall out with Hal Roach. Any Laurel and Hardy fans going?

Looks like it could be a cracker. Haven't seen any reviews up to now.

Great reviews. Really positive.

7.3 IMDB - 90% Rotten Tomatoes - 73 Metacritic

I believe the film relates to the duo's tour of the UK in the 1950's.

I have a vested interest in this, because they came to the Coventry Theatre and my mum and dad went to see them.

Got a big wow from me when they told me about that.

Loved Laurel and Hardy because they were more than just slapstick.
Yep and unfortunately for many, that is the only perception of them.

The thing is, though I love Laurel anfld Hardy, I really cannot take to slapstick much at all

I think most of Laurel and Hardy''s funniest moments come from their dialogue, though I do have to confess, the tickling scene in Way out West is an absolute gem.

Gotta be two of my favourite comic pairings! They worked off each other so well. And as Otis says, it wasn't all slapstick. I can't remember what the film was, but one of my favourite clips was when Stan had come home from (I think) the war and Ollie went to meet him at the veterans hospital. While he was waiting for Ollie to show, Stan sat in a wheelchair and tucked his leg under him, just for comfort you understand. The inevitable happens. Ollie sees Stan and is horrified that his friend "has lost his leg"! He pushes him everywhere for ages until Stan gets up (I can't remember why) and Ollie picks him up and puts him back in the wheelchair! It's so hard to describe the scenes, but if ever anyone gets to see it, it's hilarious! I just wish I could remember the title of the film!

I bought their entire collection on DVD (I think some of their very last few films aren't on there) a few years back. Still yet to watch every film.

I have three box sets that I absolutely treasure and they are the Hitchcock entire collection, the Marx Bros entire collection and everything of Laurel and Hardy.

I saw this play last August at Edinburgh, really good. I'll no doubt see the film soon.

Am sure I remember my late Grandad saying that he saw them when they came to the Standard Motor Car Company. Must have been at the same time as this visit.

Yes the box sets of Laurel and Hardy would be on my wish list for viewing when I'm old, infirm and housebound. Probably with all the Simpsons, Mash and Frazier episodes. Hmm bit disappointed that I haven't included any British comedy box sets.

Yeah, probably could be misinterpreted! But seriously I do have these kind of ideas that one day I'll have time to watch these when I have plenty of time. It's a kind of delayed pleasure - I even avoid the Simpsons now so I can bank unseen episodes. Madness I know but even semi-retired I don't have the luxury of time at the moment.

I'd love the complete set of all the Only Fools And Horses series including all Christmas Specials. I catch the odd one or two on TV and watch them as if for the first time and they're bloody hilarious!

Saw this yesterday, it's excellent. They have the mannerisms down beautifully yet play it straight - it's a story of friendship really. It's neither triumphant nor self pitying, and any comedy is from the supporting cast.

Heard such great things about it and it's said you don't even need to be a fan to enjoy the movie.

You don't. It works nicely just on human relationships, and performance v 'reality'.

And it's nicely understated, too.
