Rodrigues looks like being Sakamotos back up . As for right back it opens up a huge opportunity for Burroughs , will be interesting to see how much of preseason he plays .
We do need another cm and striker though
Yeah, I’m not saying the right sided player is essential but one that covers both would be ideal as Rodrigues is an unknown and Burroughs likewise (although I think he’s perfectly capable of filling in there for a few games)

So he’s not an 8 or a 10 but he’s a winger/inside forward? Like what’s that then? I’m genuinely not having a go (I never like having personal arguments with people on here, just find it draining) but I don’t think we really know what his perfect/natural position is yet. I assume it’s somewhere on the left side of midfield, either wing/midfield/CAM, but I think it’s a bit early to tell. I just hope we “gently” experiment, winning games whilst learning what our new recruits are best at.
Peterborough played same formation as us last season and he played on the left side of the front 4 all season. It’s more of an inside forward than a winger

Burroughs has just had a full season in league one , if he isn't good enough now then he never will be

He is a wide player !
Either in a front 4 or in a front 3
Clear?

He started half the games if not less (granted he was injured for a couple of months). Lincoln fans thought he was ok when he played but nothing special.

I agree if he’s not good enough now he never will be. I just think he’s going to be one of those that doesn’t quite make it with us but will have a decent career in league football

I think the next few weeks will decide his long term future. He has a real opportunity to get himself into the first team squad , hopefully he grasps it

Willy humphries is our wizard on the wing
Do you remember the other words of the song?
We are supporters of the Sky Blues
Jimmy Hill he is our king
George Hudson's our goal scorer
and Willy Humphries is our wizard on the wing
At full back we've John Sillett
Kenny Hale's our inside right
Together we're united
We are the boys in blue and white

Reckon a modern day one could get started: Robins, Simms, Haji, Bidwell, Tatsu

Huh? They play opposite wings.

He's played previously on the right.

Equally, he needs to a seriously good player to get in ahead of Wright..

Will be this I'm pretty sure.

EMC will compete with Wright on the left (can push Wright into the striker role too) and maybe Sakamoto on the right.

Torp will be competing with Rudoni & Eccles.

That looks our strongest team to me although I think EMC will start instead of Sakamoto with Wright in the right.

Why? Wright had a better season than him in a more difficult league. I think EMC will have to earn his spot.
I don't disagree, and no way would I drop Wright. But I think the team is stronger with an EMC type player in it, so think it'll be manoeuvred for him to be in it. Wouldn't be shocked to see Wright play up top with Simms, and EMC and Saka out wide with two sitters (8 & 6). Think this is where having a LB like Bidwell will help us. Bidwell was forced to go forward last season due to the unbalance of the team in the forward areas. I think the defensive shape when we are attacking will be Sheaf holding, 2 x CB and Bidwell almost making it a back 3. Reverts back to type when on defensive. Will be so interesting to see.

i think the starting 11 this season is not as critical as it was last season because we have options all over the field
i think we will see all our new players involved at some time during each game
Good situation to be in

Not only do we have options in changing personnel but we have options to change
systems as required
we are told MR is ditching 3 at the back but it remains an option" in game" with Da Silva and MVE reverting to wing backs
Plus a few other options system wise also available
There are also many permutations around our front players especially if we get another striker and midfielder hopefully exciting times

Personally, I think we may still bring in the keeper and another centre back.
It looks quite exciting though at this point if we can keep the injuries down to a minimum. I think they will go easy on Saka to see how his back stands up and it will be hard to leave Mason-Clark out.

In the modern game I think it is more about 20 rather than 11. I remember when managers had one sub to work with.

Today with 5 subs from 9 it open up a wholely different tactical palate. Players in certain positions can afford to give their all over 60-70 minutes - then you can refresh legs and go again. You can protect wing backs the most demanding position on the pitch. A manager can change formation and tactics completely after 60 minutes if they want.

At times our bench was weak last year and some times had to make do with a psychological sub. One that looked good on paper but maybe was fully fit and could only give you 10 minutes at a push.

I am confident we are going in the right direction. I also believe players can improve, with the right coaching, guidance and opportunity. Players need regular football to perform at their best, without being run into to ground. With football at this level fatigue is often mental as much as it is physical especially for young players.

I think that would be harsh. Sakamoto on the right was a staple of our period of good form last year; from the first time we switched to 4 at the back until his injury we were one of the best teams in the league.
Agreed - teams were needing to double up on Sakamoto, which left more space for the others. He was integral to our improvement, and almost unplayable at times.

The defence remains the biggest concern. We finished the season poorly with a lot of sloppy goals.
Obviously a new good keeper will help, as will Saka tackling back.
But there was too much running through Sheaf and Eccles, too much dodgy centre back play and jds ain't it! Need another left back and maybe centre back. Let's see.
Ps. Not sure if EMC offers more than Wright defensively.

The end of the season was sloppy full stop . The squad was too thin and a lot of players playing for the first time in the Championship were physically and mentally spent , especially with the Cup run on top .
Despite the over exaggeration of how bad our defence was last season we still had the 8th best record in the league
But hey everybody loves a bit of sensationalist drivel on a boring Wednesday afternoon

Our form in the run in was really poor and defensively we looked like an accident waiting to happen most of the last 10 games.
But hey maybe that's sensationalist to you. Yaaawn.
