Coventry City have signed Republic of Ireland international striker Stephen Elliott on a one-year deal.
The Sky Blues moved to secure the services of the former Manchester City, Sunderland and Wolverhampton Wanderers striker after his contract expired with Scottish Premier League club Hearts.
Manager Andy Thorn said the 28-year-old is a strong addition to the Coventry City squad.
He said: "We are really pleased to be able to get Stephen. We've got some really talented young players here but we want to supplement that with experience too and Stephen brings that.

His goal scoring record isn't very good, but you never know he could bang him 35 goals.,.

So does this mean Fleck is not signing? If a deal for Fleck was close I would have assumed they would have announced it as a double signing?

Not exactly Lionel Messi by his record but let's give the lad a chance... hopefully doesn't turn out to be more like Lionel Blair

Got to give him a chance guys ........... it is at least positive news ........ and getting an experienced "international" in the 3rd division is a decent start to rebuilding the squad

Sounds like he had one handy season with Sunderland, but has struggled with injuries since then. May be that's why they've only done a 1 year deal. Still, he's 28 so in theory he should be at his prime.

Good thing is its a 1 year deal so if he is pants or injury prone he won't b hangin round like david bell or o donovan but on a mre positive note I hope he does well and scores a few quite willing to give the man a chance hes played for a few decent clubs and ireland so he must have something about him

His record isn't the est but how many games has he played in what is essentially division 3? He spent a number of years with Prem teams, but has never really held down a place in order to prove himself.

Let's give the guy a chance first.

Got to say, when I heard of an 'experienced international' I was thinking more along the lines of David Healy who we regularly got linked with it, but as he's no where to be seen at present, I think we're better off with Elliott. Let's hope I'm proven right :)

Will ask my eldest son soon. He was a season ticket holder with Motherwell until he moved in with us for a bit before joining the army later this month. Asked him about Fleck earlier. Said he has ability but has more poor games than good. He has met him a few times. Says he is a bigheaded pr!ck

Sounds like he'd fit in well at Cov :)

My first ever rumour, so please slag me off , but strong rumours from deepest darkest norfolk is that Norwich are just to announce the signing of Fleck from rangers.
Its in the local press so more than just a rumour, but proof if Torchy needs it, can be obtained, as its in the local rag

Not slating your rumour Rev, but there's a bit of a difference between where we are and where Norwich are. Can't see him having a tough decision is it was us two in for him. His attitude / reviews doesn't strike me as the type that a Prem team would be chasing, but I may be wrong (reviews only been read on here)

Link? not calling you a liar but I can't find one online.

Norwich have just signed Whitaker from Rangers on a free as well.

I can't find a link either, but did discover John Fleck is Robert Fleck's nephew and the latter played for Norwich so that might be another draw (if Premiership football & bigger wages weren't enough).

Admittedly he isn't as good as we would like but anyone that expects us to get a championship level striker is frankly kidding themselves. But.... he's not a terrible signing. I know you can't please everyone and all that but lets give him a chance first yeah? Looks like he had an ok last season, hopefully he's found a bit of form and will score half of our goals next season.

Heard he broke his leg walking from Andy Thorns office, he's out for a year, think his contract is a year too...
