Was a bit gutted at the time as he looked class. But based on the career that followed and the shit he got involved in it was good business.
Yeah as soon as it happened it was clear “instant success” was going to be the comfort in familiarity of 17th.

Davenport once told a lad I was out with in the Colly “don’t you know who I am? I can have you stabbed”. So yeah.

I also met Davenport, but to me he seemed a decent, unassuming lad.

I presume he was on the lash when you met him, so perhaps didn't hold his booze very well!

He was charged a couple of times for assault - once on his sister - and expelled from a non league club for violent conduct.

All that said Reid took the job on the specific understanding Davenport would not be sold. McGinnity then sold him without even discussing it with Reid

Always wondered why David Pipe never played much after his first season when he looked 'okay' and other youth team grads continued to get games. Perhaps this was why

Different pod, but enjoyed Carlton Palmer on Quickly Kevin: 90’s Football
They've interviewed a few ex-City players, all a decent listen - Shaw, Dublin, Huckerby, Froggatt, possibly a couple of others. Also Bobby Gould - but he just came across as a berk.

Probably said it to the wrong person.

He was charged with assault on his sister and it was her boyfriend and another who attacked him

Really enjoyed this episode. Working my way through the others, I highly recommend Mark Crossley and Kevin Lynch. Currently 20 mins into Alan Rogers, hilarious so far. Any other decent episodes?
Nick Anderton young lad at Bristol rovers worth listen - horrific few years, recent episode
Rod Thornley - ex utd and England physio - great listen
Malcom Christie - good listen

Some the obscure ones the best.

Agree. I probably laughed once at the Gould one, when he was on about speaking Welsh. The story about handbags with Hartson was boring the second time, lost count of how many different people talked about it.

Patrick van Aanholt said something similar to one of my mates when we were out in Leamington once. Was a Tuesday night as well. Not really a good luck going clubbing midweek as a professional footballer. For reference Leon Best and Gunnarsson were also there, so guess it was about 2008.

You could find them in Smack more often than not if memory serves

With a lot of these footballers stories, especially on under the cosh I'd take these with a pinch of salt.
So many people have come out and basically said a load of Warnock and Redknapp's anecdotes are massively over exaggerated/bordering on not true

I loved that 92/93 season under Gould, after the dour 18 months of Terry Butcher / Don Howe when we should of gone down (91/92)
However Gould was a mad man! Even then. He also sold Rosario & Gallacher in Jan / Feb that season which basically killed the season's momentum.

Awful manager. Had a decent budget, with SISU and Ransom's early enthusiasm, and some great players (Dann, Fox, Gunnarsson, Morrison etc) He never got us anywhere near the playoffs. SISU lost interest, and we went down.
Coasted off Gareth Bale thereafter

IF I can do it, you can. Any device which has YouTube including TVS, go on search then type in Under the Cosh. Enjoy.
