I can not believe some on here are giving Cody so much stick on here when he has only been here 5 mins, some even suggest playing freddie instead of him.
Give the kid a chance just because he hasn't scored a shed full of goals in his first few games ffs what do some expect a miracle.

So is most of the team at the moment as well.
So freddie.s better even though he has no respect for anything to do with the club? not saying you said this, but what were you expecting when he joined?

He's played what? 4 games? With out a pre-season and one of those games he played out of position, give the lad a chance

Think we needed more than Cody i'm afraid ssfc for that miracle to happen nice thought though

We need to slate the system and the players who don't feed him the ball in dangerous areas.

I hammered him because he was wandering around with his hands on his hips at walking pace on Saturday. He utterly failed to close down and showed himself to be a lazy git. I was screaming at him for most of the first half to close down but he let his man step off into space constantly. Sorry, but from what I've seen so far he's very lazy and not very bright. A BIT LIKE FREDDY!

We need to give this lad a chance, have a look at his vids on you tube,he definatly knows where the goal is.
Looking at Freddies record for CCFC it would appear he forgot that critical factor a long time ago,its a massive shame as we took to him and got behind him for a long time
but it looks like hes forgot that fact aswell by not wanting to play for us anymore.

The entire team were like that. In the other games I've seen him he runs his socks off.

Also, be very careful before you call a goalscorer lazy for not running everywhere, a lot of successful goalscorers save their energy to the moments that matter. We've driven away many a striker at this club with complaints of them being lazy, when in fact service was the issue. Best, Bothroyd and John spring to mind.

My thoughts on Cody are that he is a fox in the box type of player and he contributes very little to our all round play. The highlights of his goals shows he cones alive in the 6 yard box but we don't get enough crosses into the box.

He is a luxury player - We're literally carrying him for 95% of the game the ball isn't in the oppositions box, which makes it hard when you under the cosh. I actually thought this of him every game i've seen him play. What makes it worse is that at least 2 other of our players are also passengers and it impossible to play well when your carrying so many players.

I think I'm coming around to the platt and juke partnership, at least you know the ball will be held up if we knock it forward, then we can build our attacks from that platform.

There are suggestions that we should play cody up front with Platt, but how can we drop our top scorer and the only player to have scored more than 1 goal this season?

Another suggestion is that we play him at the tip of the diamond, but as i said he doesn't contribute to general play so we'll be even lighter in midfield if that is possible.

I said at the time we signed him that we should have too much expectations for him, he excelled last season, but two leagues lower against slower and less skilled defenders. Even ROD proved himself at a higher level in League One but we know he is shite. Why do we expect Cody to be better - he may be, he may not be, but we shouldn't expect it.

If you want to compare to similar strikers, Charlie Austin has scored 8 in 14 starts since he moved to Burnley, and Le Fondre has scored 4 in 10 starts - Cody has 1 in 7. One of the things it would like to point out is that Austin had had two good seasons before moving, and Le Fondre had proved himself other a couple of seasons - last season was Cody's only season of regular football in league football. You may want to point to his lack of pre season, but to me Austin and Le Fondre just had a bit of presence about them on the pitch. To me Cody looks like a kid.

I'm not slating Cody, i'm just saying we shouldn't have unreal expectations for a player who's has only had one good season in the football league in league two.

I really hope he comes good, but on Saturday i would go with Juke and Platt, and if fit would continue that partnership for an extended period and bring Cody on as an impact sub.

Well if Cody was conserving his energy for something special I hope we see it soon! I don't care how good you are, if you coast like that you won't be a player who I back. And so far, he isn't making up for his laziness in other areas.

I'm sorry but he was much worse at strolling around than anyone on the pitch. Cyrus and Lukas in particular put him to shame.

100% correct. He reminds me of Kevin Drinkell after season 1. He has just been given a great opportunity and acts like he is on a Sunday stroll.. and if we agree it must be right.

But he's not the only one? and surely players who have been here longer should be setting an example?(some never get much said against them at all, and can do very little wrong) and some as I said earlier would rather have a lazy git who has no respect for anything that is sky blue in the side.
nonleague, if you were having a go at Cody all game then how about others who are just as lazy and put hardly any effort in at all and can not be arsed? do they get the same treatment (no matter who they are) just a general question thats all? opinions as I say everyone has them and are entirely entitled to them.
I feel that maybe just pinpointing a lad who has been here a few minutes in respect to the rest of the team is starting to become the brunt of some people's anguish towards things rather than so called star (use the word star loosly) players.
Could we have another case of a player going to feel the fans wrath (become the brunt of everything) because he is not setting the ricoh pitch ablaze while others get away with it and put in lacklustre displays week in week out?

Who else is as lazy as him?

He's shite! But next season in league one he will be a star!

Optimistic but doubtful. You always expect new signings to run around like headless chickens trying to make an impression. To look like he has a bad attitiude already is very concerning. Sorry players who walk around the pitch as much as he does really do not do it for me. Another Ashley Grimes in the making.

ICHAN - still waiting for an answer to my question.

Cody mcdonald was and never will be a good striker, fair enough he has the work ethic of a racehorse, but he has the skill of the donkey.

if I were sisu I wouldn't give andy thorn any money if he's going to waste it on shit like that

We've got him because Thorn's had no money....It's obvious Adam Le Fondre was the number 1 target by the fact Rotherham rejected our approach's because we had no money until we sold Turner.

Don' sit on here endlessly i am afraid kduffy.
Ok you may not agree but thats entirely upto you as it's your opinion and heres mine.
Sheffs (can I say that about the coming of the messiah), someone who is supposed to be a cov fan through and through and has been at this level for a number of years.
If Cody ran around like a headless chicken the kduffy you would be saying all he does is run around like a headless chicken what shit etc etc, so he is the only one to blame then is he? in some peoples eyes not the rest he's becoming an easy target and scape goat.
All I am saying is, is that the lad has been here 5 mins and already he is feeling the brunt of fans anger.
If the players are becoming scared to touch the ball incase they make a mistake just think how the new lads going to feel? Ok he's a professional footballer get on with it fair enough I agree but if his team mates are shit scared then how can he be brimming with confidance?
Were all allowed an opinion and ok not everyone agrees but after being here for such a short time how can he be judged as being absolute shit or not when for some he has not been given time?
A gypsy and others have been getting away with it for years.
My opinion.

I dont rate him at all. He appears a player that may possibly do OK in a free flowing side that creates chances all day long.

Were not that sort of team or never have been. Wrong signing in my opinion and I dont think he works hard enough off the ball.

Ridiculous!! "He's shit" after 5 games!! People were saying the same about McAllister I remember. I like to form my own opinions, they normally come after more than 5 minutes.

Mmm I don't think he will have a playing career like McCallister -- do you? Anyway attitude is my problem.

Did I say anywhere his playing career would be like McAllisters? My point was to illustrate the fickleness of football fans.

Is it just tactics that cause an imbalance in forwards being in the right place at the right time.

It seems always that any two of our forwards (any permutation) appear to be wandering out on the wings and not/never lurking in the pen box where most goals originate.

It defies belief that this tactic has been passed down by successive management teams resulting in CCFC averaging not much more than 1 goal per game over several seasons.

Simples - or is it ???

If forwards don't get the service they come looking for the ball instead. In an ideal world of course I'd want top class strikers here, along with a top class team. But we've been given what we've been given. The team we have is average but the confidence levels are non-existent. They're scared. The thing to do as supporters is get behind the team. But people seem too preoccupied with complaining about anything they can and that can only lead to low morale in the whole of the club, from players to supporters. THAT, by the way, is not a criticism of how anybody is going round supporting the team, it's just an observational opinion.

I reckon Ashley Grimes' son, also called Ashley Grimes, holds the right to be heralded as "the next Ashley Grimes". Although judging by his goalscoring record last season, he could be better than his dad. He'll probably score aginst us for Rochdale next season. But really, what sort of person gives their kid the same name as themselves? I mean, aside from Americans?
