My thoughts on Cody are that he is a fox in the box type of player and he contributes very little to our all round play. The highlights of his goals shows he cones alive in the 6 yard box but we don't get enough crosses into the box.
He is a luxury player - We're literally carrying him for 95% of the game the ball isn't in the oppositions box, which makes it hard when you under the cosh. I actually thought this of him every game i've seen him play. What makes it worse is that at least 2 other of our players are also passengers and it impossible to play well when your carrying so many players.
I think I'm coming around to the platt and juke partnership, at least you know the ball will be held up if we knock it forward, then we can build our attacks from that platform.
There are suggestions that we should play cody up front with Platt, but how can we drop our top scorer and the only player to have scored more than 1 goal this season?
Another suggestion is that we play him at the tip of the diamond, but as i said he doesn't contribute to general play so we'll be even lighter in midfield if that is possible.
I said at the time we signed him that we should have too much expectations for him, he excelled last season, but two leagues lower against slower and less skilled defenders. Even ROD proved himself at a higher level in League One but we know he is shite. Why do we expect Cody to be better - he may be, he may not be, but we shouldn't expect it.
If you want to compare to similar strikers, Charlie Austin has scored 8 in 14 starts since he moved to Burnley, and Le Fondre has scored 4 in 10 starts - Cody has 1 in 7. One of the things it would like to point out is that Austin had had two good seasons before moving, and Le Fondre had proved himself other a couple of seasons - last season was Cody's only season of regular football in league football. You may want to point to his lack of pre season, but to me Austin and Le Fondre just had a bit of presence about them on the pitch. To me Cody looks like a kid.
I'm not slating Cody, i'm just saying we shouldn't have unreal expectations for a player who's has only had one good season in the football league in league two.
I really hope he comes good, but on Saturday i would go with Juke and Platt, and if fit would continue that partnership for an extended period and bring Cody on as an impact sub.
