TM is a great recruitment and has brought with him an optimism that the club has been sadly lacking. I for one won't be expecting overnight success. I will give him four transfer windows and the full two years and reflect on his progress then. If he achieves stuff before that it will be a bonus.

Year 1 new faces and develop younger players, introduce his concepts.
Year 2 fine tune and stamp authority

I think there is no question that TM is the better manager, the stats speak for themselves, but we do need a lot of new players so once again it all comes down to recruitment. SP/SW got our recruitment badly wrong last season and we almost paid the price. I've no doubt TM has contacts and an eye for a player to match his tactical nous but it's still a challenge to get decent players to sign on the dotted line. I think we will be top half definitely but whether we crack top 6 or not all hinges on the players we are able to attract.

So how many clubs have kept a good squad from last season? Or more to the point how many had a good squad last season?

Just about all of our opponents will have to rebuild. But you seem to think it is only us. And we have the advantage of the same person choosing the players and how much to pay them. He will have a good idea how much he has to spend on each position. And we should have a top 10 budget. Has he also made sure that he will get money from the extra received from the Wilson sale with them getting promoted?

And if Chesterfield can make the top 6 why can't we do it and better where they came?

I agree. Another factor to consider is that not every signing comes off no matter how good the manager.

I was thinking there might be a lot of wild optimism about, now that TM has arrived but instead a lot of people on this forum are being very realistic IMO.

I think we should let TM get his feet under the table and start the team building before we all start placing the burden of expectation on him

It is great that he signed but that's just the first step. We do not have a squad yet let alone a team. Even he is saying enjoy but be patient

Hope he gets all the success we want but right now lets just enjoy the ride rather than demanding as some do automatic promotion as a minimum.

Give him a chance to build something, if we end up top half then that's moving in the right direction, if we do better than that lets all just enjoy it

Be happy that for once we have had a good few days and that there is some positivity about CCFC and its fans

Where have I said that its only us needing to rebuild? Where have I said we can't make top 6? In fairness none of us knows exactly what our budget will be, let alone the budgets or our rivals so thats a moot point.

All the clubs in the division face the same challenges and recruitment will be vital for all of them just as it is for us. My only point is, TM is not a magician. He might be a little bit of a draw for some players but we are still just another league one club, top quality players are not going to be battering down our door to play for us. Other clubs in the division will be able to pay more money than us. We obviously can spend our money wisely and get good players in and if they all gel together then top 6 here we come. Brilliant, job well done. Alternatively we could struggle to recruit the players we need and/or players that look good on paper might not perform as we or TM expects them to. Either scenario or any combination of the two is equally likely at this point in time.

I am not demanding that we get promoted. What I am saying is that we have seen what he can do with a poor squad. He should do better with a better squad and players to play in positions to the style he likes to play. Having confidence in what we have seen so far in TM is not demanding anything. Nobody is asking for his head if we are not in the top 6. But he has been with us for a bit now. His feet are under the table. He knows what he has let himself in for. And with the talks lasting so long he must of asked for what he needs. I will be happy if we just have a chance of winning games and not like under SP where we were hoping for shots on target. But I do have faith in TM.

The one advantage we seem to have is that TM seems to get the best out of his players. This is a massive bonus.

Waggott wasted a lot of the budget on players that were sub standard and in some cases never even played, Mogga recognised that straight away and he wrestled that away from Waggott. He will get us value for money and will not sign players in a fit of Panic that Waggott did.

Corrected for you.

OK.

So managers lose titles but don't win them? I would have loved to have seen Mowbray with our squad from 2 seasons ago. Wilson and Clarke knocking the goals in with organisation for the rest of the team. But we need to see who he brings in. You say about the players he hasn't brought in yet. They are still under contract and the last season hasn't finished yet for top 6 sides. Most clubs have not released players they are not keeping yet. These are the players TM will be after other than any loans. And loan players can be very important at our level.

Tell the Chelsea and Manure supporters that it isn't managers that win titles. Or if you get relegated or not in the case of SP. I think we would have gone if we would have kept him. But TM got us up to 17th. And not only is TM a very good manager for this level but he has contacts that most managers at our level would love to have.

Funny you wanted Rosler over Mowbray hey.

Also your comment about tell the Manure / Chelsea fans it's not managers who win titles, HAHAHHA are you really going to use that one ?? then they purchased the best talent money could buy to win them titles?

I'm not looking for instant success, though it'd be nice. I'm looking forward to watching a team be built and not assuming they'll all go and a new bunch will be brought in. Planning out signings and formations with players you know well from a stable squad is half the fun of being a fan. I think TM was spot on about that being needed for fan buy in.

I'd rather we made two or three good signings and maybe a loan and finished mid table, then build on that the season after than we get a bunch of one season deals in and finish say 8th.

This is exactly what i was trying to say only put much more eloquently. Getting a decent squad together is probably going to take more than one or two transfer windows and if we want a solid unit of players they need to be on longer term contracts. Wouldn't it be nice if come next summer the bulk of the squad stays together and we just add quality to it rather than having to make wholesale changes

go support them then you prick

Who you calling a prick you jumped up little fucking melt.

What a complete nonse you are, clearly you do not understand my comment, we too will be going through a transitional period with TM, new manager, new staff, new playing staff building together all going in the one direction, just like Manure did this season.

Wanker.

The handful of elite teams in the PL tend to be fairly stable so a new manager at Man Utd is a big deal. Not sure you can apply the same logic to L1. There's plenty of managerial changes and plenty of teams who are making wholesale changes to their squad every season.

There's no reason not to hope that if TM can get the players he wants in that we can't be challenging for the play offs. I don't think we should be starting the season with a mid table is good enough attitude.

Mid table in league 1 should never be seen as success.

Spot on Hobo but lets wait for people call for his head come christmas when we are 14th in the league! I really hope we can get a set of players who 'click' and TM can improve morale to get us to the playoffs but i would rather stage the recruitment over 2 seasons than replace the entire team with a new squad. Work around a core and get some wingers in play!

I didn't want either.

Man u won with kids as well as the years when they spent. They were consistent for many years under Ferguson. But look at what has happened since he retired. Chelsea have spent big for years. So how come their best two periods have been the two periods where Mourinho has been in charge? And before you try to say so I am not comparing TM to either. Your comments just do not stand up.

As I keep saying I am not expecting us to walk it this season. I am not even expecting us to go up through the playoffs. But I think we will be top 6 minimum. I have stated my reasons why. You give your reasons why you don't think we will. I respect that. But two of my reasons stated are that this is a poor division and how we did last season with a badly failing squad once TM took over. You can't just say we won't make it because we are not spending the most money.

Instead of taking the piss out of my views how about a side bet between the two of us. I say we will be in the top 6. You say we won't. I will donate winnings to charity. Will add a bit of fun to the season. It is more than just your views you know. You can't be right all the time you know.

Astute, I have not once said we will or wont be top 6 or predicted anything as I waiting on the personnel we can bring in before getting ahead of myself.

As I said in previous posts I am excited like many but will not make any bold predictions when we do not even have a team at present that is anywhere near challenging for anything, but will await with excitement the personnel recruitment aspect like many on here.

Its just guess work at present otherwise, we could have TM but fail on a number of targets for all we know for a wide varied amount of reasons and finish midtable, we might bring in fresh personnel that allows us to challenge at the right end of the table in which for once we can discuss and enjoy football, we just wait and see.

No professional football club or non professional for that matter should start a new season with a mid table is good enough attitude.
