MVE excellent , Rudoni was industrious but the biggest disappointment for me was Mason Clarke….Is he just slow or not that fit right now ?

He was starting to run at them and Robins took him off

It’s one game

I know it’s only one game but to me Robind got it wrong
Jamie Allen should not have been on that pitch for 90 mins
Again like last year we struggled to break down two banks of four at the back
I thought with the attacking intent from pre season and training we would see something different but again it was back to playing across the back out to the wing and back again at times
Anyway on a positive note it’s only one game and we can rectify it next friday

Well, that was disappointing. Thomas really let himself today with his passing, it was far too loose. The same could be said about Allen.

Definitely need another 2-3 signings. Convinced we need an experienced CB and another CM assuming Sheaf stays.

Not to panic, it’s only August and we’ll be fine.

Undoubtedly.

Just such a poor start to the campaign

Very poor, slow and ponderous in possession, didn't have a clue how to break them down. Need to up the tempo and s few players need to have a look at themselves, Thomas in the last 15 mins was utter atrocious.

For me Thomas and Kitching are both wayward with their distribution, they often try and force it through the lines and loose it. That needs to improve.

I thought he looked good, but Haji also looked dangerous when he came on - difficult one because if you drop EMC after one game it doesn’t do his confidence much good does it.

other than Allen I’d probably say that team starts next week, Torp hopefully plays better with Eccles / Sheaf in the holding role and if not I’d bring BTA on for Torp 2nd half, with Haji for impact if needed

opening day sluggish performance but no need to worry unless it becomes a running theme - I’m sure it won’t though

If Wright is fit he should start over EMC, he's the better player.

Thomas' passing was absolutely shocking today

I really rate the lad, but just how many times was his distribution awful?

He either does a belting through ball that splits oppositions midfield or gives it away cheaply…far too many of the latter today though. Whole team was guilty of that, just thought we lacked a bit of intensity and cohesion, standard for us at start of the season

ps it was almost like robins felt he had too many options on the bench and had to use all of them. Just made us disjointed at the end after controlling most of second half

It was just a poor day at the office all round. No one player justified his selection today. It's not about missing Sheaf. It's more about the balance and startring 11. Wright & Simms should start together. It was an optimistic selection perhaps due to some hype.
It seemed like there was a plan but when that went a bit tits up we never knew how to rectify it. They all looked like they had played a full season!

If we want a bit of creative impetus and someone who can take the ball on the half turn, I would play Rudoni in there with Palmer or Mason-Clark as the 10.

Absolutely but needs Sheaf alongside him to cover when he goes on his forward runs. For 20 mins It looked like we could win but then bizarrely MR changed it , however you could see in that period that we are not that far away.
Even there I can’t remember Johansson being tested. Wanting to take far too many little touches and to take too much time.

Just how we ended last season, creating little clear cut and conceding more terrible goals.

We didn't really lay a glove on them. The first half we were totally overrun. We were a little better in the second half, but the performance overall was poor. Concerns over midfield still not addressed and backline looked suspect. Need to address it in this window. Stoke deserved the win on the balance of play.
