I do think Stoke will be decent this season so it’s not all doom and gloom.

We just didn’t create anything of note and our squad isn’t as strong as some people were saying in preseason. Only missing one starter and off the bench, after the first 3 subs there wasn’t really any one else to bring on.

That’s how I described a lot of performances from last season. We moved the ball well side to side but without any real penetration.
I thought Soke
Torp was non existent 2nd half. Allen, at least, tried... but Jamie should be nowhere near a starting 11.
He should be no where near the championship

Is it the same at every ground? Wasn’t like that at any of the grounds including Stoke last season.

We had a big search last season.

The only grounds that have little queue are those who take a lax approach to searching fans which I personally find surprising in the current climate.

Thomas passing accuracy stats must have been terrible!

Fans favourite???
He defended well but his distribution was poor and put us under unnecessary pressure. He’s taking all the slack for his passing (rightly so) but the goal and a lot of Stoke’s threat came against the left hand side of the defence.

We haven’t signed any new defenders this window and considering we kept 2 league clean sheets in 2024, it’s an area of need. A RB to cover MVE is not a higher priority than an experienced CB.

Writing this before reading the comments before.
Was immediately worried by that midfield.
Eccles has to start if Sheaf is out.
I thought Allen did ok actually (but, playing out of position)
Torp wasn’t at the races.
We get on top after 30 mins, but wasted possession and didn’t create enough. Passing too slow. Almost to a man we were under par, and the coasting around at 94 mins…WTF?
Palmer should have been on earlier.

Felt like a pre season game , and we certiainly played that way.

We lost at Leicester on the opening day last season, but had we played today, as we had played at Leicester we win that game by 3 goals.

I agree, I think Stoke will be up there this season. They have got a decent manager there and it's about time their performance matched their transfer spend. We couldn't live with them in the first half, their aggression in the press was no match for our dozy passing.

Our first half display was a concern (more because it feels a lot like a continuation of last season) what was even more of a concern was our lack of almost anything after going 1 down. We were passive, lost the ball to easily and created nothing.

The ref was annoying, so fussy and inconsistent. Fell for every feigned injury.

Don't want to seem like I'm overreacting, but I think Binks and Kitching might need to start next game. Was less than impressed with Thomas' suicidal passes. Allen surely has to be dropped in favor of Eccles or Sheaf. Torp has to make way for Palmer/Lati. Wright in place of EMC.

Also was wondering if we could play a 4-3-1-2 instead of 433 to have better balance (instead of leaving Simms isolated) and more cover in midfield? Maybe the following lineup?

Dovin
MVE Binks Kitching Bidwell

Saka Sheaf/Eccles Lati/Palmer Wright
Rudoni
Simms BTA

That it's very common place at any major event to be searched.

If you went to a concert with 25,000 people, you'd go through airport style security and queue up for 20 minutes.

All just theatre innit? Glad they’ve stopped taking your laptop out and making you take your shoes off on planes. It’s not like these measures have ever stopped anything.

If we have as poor a start as the last 2 seasons , Doug King may take some action.

For a side that wants to pass the ball around the back Thomas is still an issue.
Even when we're 1 down and in their half the ball ends up back at our keeper rather than in their box. It's like our midfield saying "we're not good enough to create something on our own".
Did like the look of Rudoni. Takes up decent positions.
None of the wingers did enough tracking back to help out their full-backs.
New keeper needs to wake up quick particularly in coming for crosses/corners.

All this talkof us having a big side this season and we bullied pretty much throughout.

Performance was more like a last pre-friendly before the season starts rather than an opening game.

I'd love to hear MR's pre-match talks.
He seems very organisation focussed, 'this is your individual job today' type of stuff.
I think we need big motivational talks, get some adrenaline in the team. We regularly start so flat. When we get up for it with tempo we are so much better. Then our quality shows.
Players like Saka and Rudoni need to be given freedom to roam. They will inject the positive energy and break up the predicability.

Not sure we can get away with playing 14 players at the same time 😉

Hopefully it's just a start of season weird one! As shit as we were at the start of last season you could make an argument for us in most games. Didn't even look like scoring today.

Didn't even have a half chance today.

Really? Last season I cannot remember it taking that long anywhere and it was simply because of how they bottlenecked the entry point.

Did in the first minute, decided not to shoot.

They were taking flags off people last year.

Ultimately, like with the CBS, there's always going to be queues.

If you don't want to queue, you can turn up 90 minutes before and walk straight in.

You lost the discussion when you say Lati should play in midfield
