Luton have their game cancelled tomorrow due to Covid in their camp. That will see the Coventry game off too.

Yep no football over Christmas that's shit but in isolation anyway but would of been OK for Luton game. We will have get a few players in January for squad rotation.

Maybe not, next Saturday would be their 7th day of isolation so it depends when the testing was done I suppose? Looks unlikely to go ahead though. Hopefully Millwall will be on

Cov-id detected circa 24th? so if the day 6 or 7 thing counts re: LFT, then surely there is a possibility it can still go ahead (and presumably some of those affected will have been positive before then - unlikely all positive on the same date) I still think teams are being mischievous regarding playing games if they think they will have a depleted team going into a fixture (which is why I am sceptical about the game happening). Especially being New Year's Day - where is the motivation (Luton or others, players or managers) to go above and beyond to declare themselves 'fit'?

Haven’t done anything like maths so this is purely a throwaway comment but with the amount of games called off are we not close of half of or even more of all players in the league currently suffering with Covid? Seems extreme and I fancy plenty might be taking advantage of this.

I understand that with the proximity of players to each other, a club could have an outbreak, but I suspect that the required number to field a team may be being manipulated by clubs saying players are injured where otherwise they would have played (lots of players carry small niggles that may well be being included in the injured category, if it suits a team) Don't know this, obviously, but it would be an obvious and convenient tactic.

What really "urkes" is all our players and staff have stuck to covid protocols etc, through no fault of their own,had games cancelled!
They've now had all of xmas off visiting family and friends,"you can bet your bottom dollar" they'll be an outbreak in our camp and we'll be cancelling games..!!!

As long as they've stuck to tirkie, they'll be fine!

Seriously, it is difficult to know which clubs/players have been responsible and which have not - players can have been responsible, but caught it from another player (not them being irresponsible, and hardly the club's fault). The bit that concerns me is the potential manipulation of legitimate available players through tweaking the number of 'injured' players. If you have not had many games cancelled you may be more tempted to cancel *especially if you are near the top or bottom)

I still don’t see why teams would deliberately call off games

I agree with regards to calling of a succession of games - as the potential backlog is self defeating; however, if you are a team facing a competitor for play off places - or at the bottom end, and you are down to the bare bones (and your opponents are not) I can see why you might be sorely tempted.

Edit: On a personal note, your Xmas quiz left me feeling as if my brain has addled considerably over 12 months. Happy New Year G !

They will access the squad depth, who they are playing and non Covid related injuries.
However, like you I believe 99% of managers would prefer to play the games now.

Revenue, fixture pile ups, injuries to key players etc - they may look at the 14 rule and try and swing it as that’s laughable.

Imagine if we had Moore, Mcfazdean, O Hare and Godden with Covid and Hamer, Gyokeres waghorn and Walker injured. We would have 14 to qualify as eligible but it would be a farce

That is why the whole league loses its integrity under the current rules. It will always benefit the teams with the bigger squads.
Either every team plays or nobody plays in my opinion

Would be nice for transport not to be cancelled for these rearranged games so we have the chance to go to at least some of what we paid for

Think I've seen you post this before. You're trying to get from Leamington to the CBS? Not sure hoe many of you there are, but would think there are car share opportunities (LFT tests of course) ? Leamington & Warwick supporters club were running a coach to home games I believe.

Hull have just called off their match against Blackburn less than two hours before kickoff.

Good - get Brereton sold before the rearranged fixture. However, how come Hull didn't know whether they had enough 'fit' players before now - not good enough.

I feel sorry for the Blackburn fans who have travelled, it’s a shambles calling games off that close to kickoff. Surely players and staff lateral flow tests would have been done early morning, and not two hours before kickoff?

It's the midweek games that are the issue, I don't particularly want to join the L+W club either (for separate reasons).

Rotherham did not deliberately call games off. Complete rubbish.
There whole squad and management team had Covid at one point. Warney knew it would cost them relegation.

Even without COVID, Rotherham would have got relegated. The worst team in the division I seen us play.

Interesting statement from Wimbledon. They are in a similar position to us.

5 subs point is a good one. It’s going to get congested and clubs like ours that have looked after a small squad will suffer.

As ever the lack of leadership from the EFL causes confusion.

My 2p says there should be a relaxation in eligibility and that teams can throw out any 11 they can get hold off.

Rewards those who keep their teams healthy.
