Anyone heading up to Manchester for The Stone Roses in a couple of weeks? Myself and a pal will be up there from lunchtime on the Saturday and looking for any pubs/bars for beforehand

It isn't a city away game! There are loads and loads to choose from. Best area to drink in will be the northern quarter (walkable to Etihad in approx 15-20 minutes I reckon). The northern quarter is the area spreading to your right as you walk down the Piccadilly approach from the station. Loads of bars but it ain't cheap, £4 a pint usually at least.
