Trouble is Thanks to Thorns lack of ability to find good players, all he has done is instill a negativity into the team. You cannot excuse a manager who brings in a striker who can't score more than 1 in 10 not once but TWICE!Deciding to play long ball and then buying a short striker!These are basic fundamental mistakes he is making. You could possibly forgive him that last season, but he has just come back from doing his level 3's. I KNOW they cover that kind of stuff there. Add to that his years in the game there is NO excuse for making this elementary mistakes.Don't forget he SHOULD have been sacked last season at Jan transfer window! Its not an early sacking - it would be late!
I actually mean't man city not cov but let's go though what you are saying there. Thorn has some blame but what your saying is because he has some blame he should be sacked. If you a mistake at work because you haven't got the tools you need do you expected to be sacked. No you don't. At Forest, maybe he could have brought Eastwood on and he might have scored, what is to say Forest would of scored more anyway. We were favorite to go down last year not because of Thorn but because the bookies saw we had a crap squad and they knew what i think we all knew deep down. Lose your top players then you will get relegated if you don't replace them. It is that simple.

What two strikers was that because from what i can remember cody hardly played because he was not fit enough and nimely was the other he brought in and simple put he isnt a goalscorer but he is a very talented player. king was a player we obviously missed and Thorn didn't sell him did he, im sure he tried to keep him.

So what makes thorn a good manager?
I think Thorn hasn't been given a chance to show what he can do yet. I know your going to say he has been in the job for a year and a half but the fact is in the first months of his time here he had Marlon King, Aron Gunnarson, Ben Turner and Keiren Westwood in that squad all of which are in better teams now who all have a chance of getting to the premier league or on in the premier league. Back then Coventry fans wanted him in charge. The next season he loses all them as well as Jutkiewic in Janurary and brings in players who aren't the quality of any of them. How is he meant to get this team to play Championship quality football when half were in the youth team or the manchester youth teams and the other half are, and i hate to say this, league one quality players. If we had Leicesters money and he spent it badly trust me I would be the first to tell people what I thought but until then he will be a manager who can not compete with the other teams in the transfer market and will have to deal with the second best all the time.
Overall I think he is a ok manager and realistically i don't think we can get a better manager with the way the club is being run at the moment, but until he is given a decent transfer budget he can't be brushed with the same stick as previous coventry managers.
So because Coventry had a shit team last year it was Thorns fault. Of course. So tell me a better manager who would have keep Coventry in the Championship last year with that squad. Or maybe you'll just sit there looking for little things in this text to make you look clever. So come on name one.

Improved a lot of players-especially the first season, the likes of Bell and Lukas played their best football for us. He took a relegation bound team and got it playing with guile and verve. Clarke and Keogh improved massively under Thorn. Indeed the only player I considered to have gone backwards under him was Sammy, mainly as he was allowed to play exactly where he wanted, which was too deep to be of any use..
Realised we don't have wingers or pace so playing 442 was pointless. Put a left-footed full-back at LB in Hussey, which first season in particular massively improved our balance. Kept team spirit up under all circumstances despite some of the cruellest late defeats imaginable (the goal which bounced off Cyrus then Murphy and in being a particular favourite..), constant incompetence from the owners, not to mention that idiot Brody and "Ken Gate": the squad has less ability than any I've seen at CCFC, but they tried harder than many better and high paid players from recent years.
Kept his dignity in interviews.
In his first season, I think I agreed with every single selection change he made and everything he said in his post-match interviews. I haven't known a City manager since Sillett speak so much common sense, and be so entirely on my wavelength. He was actually watching the same game as me!
Last season, that was harder to judge: after so many crushing late defeats, and a very young dressing room which he had to protect, what was he to say?!?
Despite having IMO the weakest squad in the division by some distance, kept us in with a shout until the fateful Bank Holiday fixture congestion, and until the last game of the season, had us at least competitive in every game: we didn't take a hammering like most City sides did regularly. See in particular Coleman, Chris.
Had bugger all to work with in the transfer market, but spotted a real gem in Norwood who almost made the difference.
Didn't take any shit off pricks like Eastwood and Gary "all I can eat, and doesn't it show?" Deegan.
I could go on, but I need cereal then beddy-byes. All the cat-talk has tired me out, and my smileys have stopped working :/

tbf Bell only improved for like the first 5 games then went back to his usual level of shitness, it was very much a case of trying to impress the new manager for Bell I reckon

I do agree about Clarke improving as he has come on leaps and bounds!
I dont agree with effort though, there were many times our players didnt give a shit and we looked like a team playing for nothing looking forward to their holiday rather than us being a team in a relegation battle.
The crushing late defeats seemed to happen quite regularly too!!!
Of course i understand he had no transfer budget but the dodgy decisions, lack of plan b.
Last season it was as if sometimes he was watching a different game, everyone knew even though we were winning we were going to lose sometimes yet nothing changed.
We setup so negative sometimes even though we needed 3 points or were chasing the game! If we were 1 nil down and he threw 4 up front and we lost 2 or 3 nil at least he tried! Instead at 1 nil down in a relegation battle we play across our defence and back to the keeper in the 80th minute!
Well I hear alot of people sayiing we play a good passing football now days or do you want the long ball days back. So on the pitch it is alot more attractive to watch. So as i have said players who weren't good enough for the championship, he made people appreciate the style of football we played.
So since you've asked alot of questions and used the same tactical crap everyone else uses. Why else does he deserve the sack. Because of some meanless pre-season results.

I have said it is a clean slate when the new season starts!
Do we really play nice football? Across the midfield, across the defence, back to midfield, back to defence, to murphy or keogh and lunp it up front?
Did many people appreciate it? When we HAD to win to stop being relegated and we were 1-0 down is passing it across our defence so attractive?
Id much rather hoofing it if it got us results

The thing is no manager is faultless in the championship, with the squad we had any mistake by the manager is very likely to be punished.
Thorn had zero/tiny margin for error last season if we wanted to survive.
Lets say Nigel Adkins make a bad sub or team selection for Southampton, it doesn't matter as Lallana or Lambert 95% of the time would produce something to win the match and it wouldn't matter
If Thorn made a similar sized error it would most likely be costly and lose us points This seasons squad should be good enough to compete at this level so any failure this season has to be directed at the management

I agree with the clean slate when the season starts but most here don't so i completely argee with you there as well as playing the long ball if it meant we would win.
But we did play the long ball last year when platt played and it didn't work because the team we had couldn't play that way. I want Coventry to win but if they lose i want them to lose playing good football. This year though looking to the future I will say this, the bare minimum for me will be making the playoffs. Thorn will hopefully prove he is a good manager this year and take us back up and i think we can all agree that all we all want is to see Coventry back in the Championship at the first time of asking.
100% agree with this guy. CCFC, you make alot of sense.
