I've lived in London over a decade and I've met 1 Palace fan and 1 Charlton fan in all my time. I assume they are very local to their areas but its still strange not to come across any. I've come across way more Coventry fans actually, we seem to get everywhere.

Maybe they’ve all moved out as there’s 2 or 3 Palace fans who regularly drink in the Devon and my Missus’ mate's fella is a Charlton fan who moved up here when they married.

Il be very shocked if a LB comes in anytime soon

As I say, Bidwell was told directly that no LB is on the radar this summer as it stands and that was over last weekend.

You'd be pretty fucking angry if your Bidwell if so

Real shame that, I find it odd that the management are trying to appease Bidwell at the cost of strengthening the team. The guy’s going to be worth very little in a season or two’s time, no one’s going to want a slow 32 year old LB, we’re also one injury away from playing JDS (*shudder) and it would have been such an ideal opportunity to get someone used to the team whilst Bidwell is still here to perform his main duties.

I don’t know why they didn’t just say to him that we’re looking for a younger LB this window but you will be our no. 1 LB for this season rather being all like “ooh oh no, please don’t go Bidwell, we love you, we’ll do anything you say Bidwell, don’t leave us” 😑😂

I don't think it's appeasing him at all. He wanted to know if we were bringing someone in as he wants to play at the top of his game for as long as he can, and considering Robins has made attempts in the last few windows to replace him, he isn't exactly 100% certain of his future here.

Don't see the issue tbh, bloke with family wants to know if we are shipping him off in the near future isn't the big drama you seem to think it is 🤷

Maybe we have zero plans to bring in a LB anyway but from the way you put I interpreted it as they’ve “assured” Bidwell they’ll be no one coming in to replace him. If he’s had to be assured that sounds like he’d be kicking up some sort of fuss if another LB came in? I’m obviously only speculating here but it just sounds to me like they’re appeasing Bidwell for the sake of bringing in a better LB. Or like I said it could just be that we’re not bringing in a new LB anyway and in which case they’re just assuring him that you don’t need to leave.

If we signed a new LB then we would still be only one injury away from JDS?? He has 3 years remaining on his contract so he is going to nowhere for this season at least.

Bidwell was a very good player for us last year and whilst I agree we could always upgrade , we don’t have unlimited funds and there are other areas that need strengthening first over Jake Bidwell.

No because we’d have Bidwell as our number 1 and a new bloke as our back up rather than JDS. I’d say to Bidwell you’re our number 1 atm but we’re bringing this new talent though the ranks and maybe next year he will be our number 1 if he’s performing better than you.

I think Bidwell is fine but I’m just thinking ahead, if he gets injured or gets slower or puts in some poor performances then we’re back to JDS, who I think is poo. Bidwell isn’t going to last forever, and now is an ideal chance to bring in a new recruit ready for when we ditch Bidwell, likewise with RB, I assume next window MVE will be gone and we’ll need someone decent in to replace him.

You’re missing my point though which is JDS will not be going anywhere this year. He’s still got 3 years remaining and Robins clearly wants to keep him so it will either be:

New LB/JDS
Bidwell/JDS

it’s been well documented that Robins has tried to upgrade Bidwell in the last few windows. I think most fans would like to see JDS upgraded instead however that scenario just isn’t going happen this summer.

Yeah true, JDS isn’t going anywhere unfortunately but I just hope he never plays for us, like we experimented with JDS and it failed, if we’re having to play him for whatever reason then we’re going to have serious issues on that left side (unless he dramatically improves somehow).

I really dont get your point about his value being little in a season or twos time, you could say that for any experienced player. You can't have a team full of wonderkids without experience in there.

Bidwell had a great season last year and im really bewildered by the desire to upgrade him, I dont think its as easy as first thought.

And finally oyur point on we are one injury away from playing JDS, that would be the same scenario if Bidwell went and we got a new LB in so quite frankly you are talking nonsense.

Yeah I agree, it does give me nightmares thinking about it.

We can only hope that he can improve as maybe he wasn’t used to playing LB (always been a LWB). We did see glimpses of a good player on a rare occasion and he seemed to play well for Wales so i suppose we just need to get behind him early in the season and hope we can see a real improvement.

If you read my previous comments you’d see that I suggested playing Bidwell this season, bringing in a new LB to train him up and get him used to the team and then eventually replace Bidwell in a season or two. I never suggested shipping off Bidwell this season.

In reference to Bidwell’s value, do you really think he’s still going to be holding significant value in a season or two’s time? Someone who isn’t the quickest as it is and will nearly be 33. No team in our position would ever consider him a sound invest. Maybe to a Charlton or Burton or whatever, yeah sound, 250K off you go but he’s not going to be worth anything like what he’s worth now in 2 years time.

Yeah exactly, I literally shudder at the thought of JDS being given the ball just outside the edge of our area 🤮But you never know, maybe he needed a season to adjust and hopefully he’ll be better, I can’t see it myself but I hope so.

well its quite clear that if one of the LB's was going it was Bidwell and not JDS so your first paragraph is a moot point

We're not trying to appease Bidwell?

JDS isn't going anywhere because of his contract (and I think Adi/Robins are keen to persevere with him).

Pretty sure Bidwell will want to leave if we bring in someone new because as you say, he's 31 and not keen to spend a season on the bench at that age.

So our choice is JDS and a new face, which will cost us significant money and we'll be fucked if they're a dud or just stick with what we've got.

Left back is one of the positions we need a better player in tbh , but not really an emergency

Yea he's got a song , and the words are super hard to learn , but reality is we need better

MR seems set on trying to stick with JSDS wherever possible to save face. He must however be able to see how shit he is. we wont get promoted with him at LB

He has a young family and over the past 18 months it's been clear for all to see MR has been trying to replace him, and fair enough. Bidders asked the question of are there plans to move me on in the near future so I can plan accordingly. He's been told no there aren't.

I really don't see what's wrong with that or am I being thick here?

Some were shouting at Bidwell POTS last year and now its imperative he must be improved on

He had a decent season , but if we look across the team he's naturally one of the next to replace to improve the side
There needs to be abalance between experience and ability though. Bidwell is showing no signs of slowing down. Without him in the first team we are generally a team of either foreign imports with limited seasons in this league under their belt or young development players. It makes sense to keep him in.

I’m sure we’re not trying to appease him in reality but it just feels like that, that’s all.

Yeah agree we’re stuck with JDS, pain in the arse that is, one of those that we’ll have to pay wages for 3 years for and get nothing back in return because he’s shit.

As for your 3rd point, like I’ve said to others, I was more thinking of getting a deputy-LB in so they can “gel” with the team for a bit and fill in when needed, rather than having a new starting LB straight away. I assume that’s what people thought the idea with Ilay Camara would be, a deputy-RB before we sell Van Ewijk for a big profit next season.

That’s bollocks Robins has shown plenty of times he has no place for sentiment. And he isn’t our first choice left back, Bidwell is. Bidwell who has been to the play offs with 3 different clubs.

The calibre of player I'd want us to target for that position (Burrows, McCallum etc.) would not sign to play second fiddle to Bidwell.

Nah you’re not being thick, you’re seeing it in the common sense way, I was being cynical about it and wondering whether they thought Bidwell was more important than a younger, better LB.

You know when sometimes you hear annoying news and you just want to moan about it for a bit, that was me this morning after hearing we’re not getting a new LB 😂 Persoanlly I think it’s the one position on the pitch that’s weaker than all the others and I was hoping for MVE 2.0 on the left 😢
