Whilst I get your point and do agree that if the right player isn’t available we shouldn’t buy them, but I do also think that there surely must be a player out there that is the right player, even at all budgets? What exactly is the perfect player anyway?

Even for a professional scout it’s hard to know what a player will turn into before you suggest them to the management. It’s not like there’s only 50 midfielders to choose from, there’s literally hundreds and hundreds of potential targets, either at say £5-7 mil (if we get the Vik money) or at say £1-2 mil (if we don’t get the Vik money). I’m always happy to be wrong but I do find it odd that there simply is no midfielder in the whole world that doesn’t fit the bill

We are all hoping that the Arsenal at least , show an interest in Vik ?
At Arsenal though , they are stating that Nketiah has to be moved on first , before the alleged €80 - 100 million is agreed on !
Then surely , all our dream team players , to finish this season’s jigsaw , can be completed ?

Ipswich had some big loans in their team. We should look to send a couple out on loan so we can bring in a top quality loan perhaps in the LB area and spend some money on a 6 and a 9.

But you have to find them and scout them. You can't just say he plays in midfield and has played X amount of games so must be ok?

If all those players are out there and that easy to find show us your list. Please don't say it's not my job. Because I will say don't criticise the people doing the job then because you obviously know Jack about it.

The bottom line is every professional club in the world is looking for the next diamond.

I have said in previous posts if we miss out on targets we may need to look at loans. But until Prem teams have their pre season and settle on what their squads are the top quality loans aren't available until later in the window.

I don’t think it is realistic to consider promotion if we ignore the loan market.

I think we knew this anyway but seems Sporting have released a statement today about our sell on clause for Viktor reducing to 10%.

Seems to read like they have had to pay us €1m to trigger this...

Edit - I have considered deleting this for fear of opening up the thread on the percentage amount again!

I know what you mean and I’m not discounting your argument, I’m just questioning the point that’s often made on here that “well the player isn’t available so that’s that”. It just seems like a throwaway comment to me.

You say that I should provide a list of players because “I’m criticising the scouts” but it’s not the scouts I’m criticising, it’s the point previously made that I’m criticising, the idea that there’s no player out there that’s right for us. How do we know that’s the case? We may not get someone in for a variety of reasons not just because “there’s not a soul out there that’s right for us”.

Also, why do we have to find “gems” all the time? We all like having the next best kept secret in our team, or unearthing a hidden talent for the price of a bag of chips, but sometimes a team just needs known quality or experienced players. (I’m down for both potential and experience btw, I’m not having a go at you or suggesting what you said is wrong, we just need a bit of balance in the team imo.)

Where did I say there isn't a player out there for us you have filled in gaps to what I said to suit an argument.

We will 100% sign somebody there is no doubt for me. But I also suspect we would prefer to wait to see if we can go out and sign the a preferred target rather than settling for somebody. Which is what it should be.

Tbf you did say “if”, so I’m not saying that you personally are saying we won’t sign anyone, I’m just talking about the point that I’ve seen on here many times which is something along the lines of “there’s no players available therefore we can’t sign anyone”. Obviously that’s not word for word what you said but it’s in a similar ballpark. I’m not having a go at you personally, it’s more that particular argument that I disagree with.

There must be someone somewhere that’s right for us in some regard, we’re not even after an exact Sheaf replacement, just a decent CM that can be rotated with Eccles/Torp/Sheaf/Allen etc.

So many on here miss the constraints we are working within when they mention multiple signings .
As said earlier we've had 4 in and 4 out ,how much realistically is left of our allocated wage budget
Honestly some need to think before posting about numerous new signings which are quite frankly not needed in certain positions

Antoni Kozubal at Lech Poznan is someone the club should keep tabs on. One of the best performers for Lech over the opening weekends of the Ekstraklasa season. Still only 19, only seen him from the highlights of games but has quick feet, good range of passing, calm in possession, wouldn't be ready for the Championship just yet but potentially in a year or two, if I remember I'll give there next game a watch and have a better idea on him.

Who said anything about cost? I’m not talking about cost at all, I’m simply disagreeing with the idea that there may be no players out there that fit the bill. Whether the player costs 500K or £5 mil, I’m sure there must be someone out there that’s right for us.

Fully agree with all these comments. There is a limit to the squad size of only 25 players over the age of 21 too. As a whole I think most of us are fairly happy with our potential starting 11 therefore we want the rest of the squad to improve so we have sufficient cover. We are not going to spend millions on cover as unsurprisingly expensive players will expect to start. I do wonder if the injuries and preseason performances at the moment will have made us switch targets. I know I hoped Burroughs would be a solution however his reviews haven't been great on here. I thought Obikwu potentially could stop us needing a new forward thinking if Simms was injured then Wright would.play down the middle but with Simms and Wright injured we are looking light. But it is getting the right player in at the right price. They need a certain skillset, need potential to improve, need to fit into the squad and need to be the right price. So not a panic buy. If we buy some players will need to move on to to create space in the squad, I can envisage 5 in, 3 outs plus potentially some youngsters loaned out. The main outs been Wilson or Collins, Burroughs and then possibly someone like Palmer who.although I think would be invaluable from the bench might want to be a starter.

No - it's capital gain. Meaning we've already received 24M (hence the reduction from 15% to 10%).

So - assuming Sporting sell him for 100M - that would be a capital gain of 76M so a kickback of 7.6M EUR to Coventry or about 6.4M GBP.

The reduction from 15% to 10% means we've already received 4M EUR of the performance related bonuses, I think.

EDIT: However, that article claims we received 2M EUR of bonuses and Sporting paid us another 1M to exercise an option. It sounds like they had an option to pay 1M to further reduce the % and have took it. This in & of itself implies a transfer might be happening but for them to lose on that deal Gyokeres would have to sell for less than 43M - so I think this is a no brainer for Sporting to take that option.
