I think a realistic chart right now looks like:

GK Collins/Wilson
LB Bidwell/Dasilva
CB Kitching/*
CB Thomas/Lati
RB MVE/Burroughs
CM Sheaf/Allen
CM Eccles/Torp
CAM Palmer/*
LW Wright/EMC
RW Saka/Raphael
ST Simms/Tavares

I'm sure Godden will leave and we'll bring in a CB and CAM.
OK you got in just before me. Thanks for wasting my time

I think if you list 2 pros in each position it gives you a better idea of what needs strengthening...
GK. Collins/Wilson
RB. MVE/Burroughs
LB. Budwell/Dasilva
RCB. Thomas/Lati
LCB. Kitching/
CM. Sheaf/Torp
CM. Eccles/Allen
AM. Palmer/
RF. Sakamoto/Rodrigues
LF. Wright/EMC
CF. Simms/Godden

For me we need GK, LB, LCB, CM (possibly 2 depending on formation change) AM, CF

I’d agree with others that Allen really is an AM more than a CM to be honest, but if we want to continue with a 10 then neither he or Palmer are what we need.

Well I'd sell Allen tbh but I was just sticking him in there. Whether you'd put him at CM or AM he'd not be on that list for me. Palmer would be gone too although I could tolerate him as a backup AM.

I think Allen is an AM if he’s anything but expect him to go or be a floating squad player at best.

I think bare minimum we need a CB CM and ST. That’s before you start upgrading at GK or LB or whatever.
Yeah I think at this stage Allen should be at best 3rd choice for any position in the middle. Floating is a good way to describe it, don't mind him staying around for experience and continuity but realistically he should be playing as little as possible if we want promotion.

The squad is more like:

GK - Collins, Wilson
CB - Thomas, Kitching, Latibeaudiere
RB - van Ewijk
LB - Bidwell, Dasilva
CM - Sheaf, Eccles, Torp, Allen
AM - Palmer
RW - Sakamoto
LW - Mason-Clark, Rodrigues
ST - Simms, Wright, Godden, Tavares

I've left out the likes of Burroughs, Howley and Obikwu as presumably they will go out on loan.

It's clear we need: CB, RB, CM, AM and RW. Then we need to replace anyone we move on i.e Godden, Bidwell, Wilson are the 3 (rumoured) most likely.

At CB, Kipre is out of contract at West Brom and would be my choice.
AT RB, we need cover for MvE. Maybe Burroughs is good enough.
At CM, all of the players we've been linked with would be good, Browne, Sanches, Stamenic.
At RW, we've been linked with Bacuna. Josh Bowler is a free agent and would be good competition for Sakamoto.
If Godden leaves, we've been linked with Ntelo.
If Bidwell leaves, people think Burrows at Peterborough is the one we might have an option on.
If Wilson leaves, a first choice GK will be needed. Think we've been linked with a Swedish GK who's name I can't remember.

So that's 5 more signings I think we need + replace any who leave.

Bacuna isn’t a RW

Hmmm. Quite a few people want Godden, Allen, Tavares and Wilson to move on. Wave a magic wand and we will get better players in.
A lot of supporters think Godden has gone over the hill and his time with us is over. He was certainly a shadow of his former self in the second half of the season and I tend to subscribe to this opinion and would love to be proven wrong. However, like all the aforementioned players he is under contract and does not need to move unless he is loaned out. Can't see many L1 teams matching his wages and perhaps he feels he can get back to his best.
Wilson has been a back up keeper for most of his career so may be happy to fight for his place.
Allen was fine before his injuries and was in the team that got us into the top 6 two seasons ago. He will feel he has a lot to contribute and has still got progress to make.
Tavares was finally showing promise near the end of the season and it was a shame injury intervened again.
Wishing players to move and them actually doing it are two different things.

Godden wants out he's made it clear so he will be off

Tavares will be sent out to L1 on loan

I really hope so, Godden is not the sort of player we need in our team these days, he’s not up to top half Championship level. We need to do a lot better than Tavares and Godden as our second striker if we want to make it into the prem.

Quite interesting when you look at it like that, we clearly need a better attacking mid if we assume O’Hare’s gone, Palmer has been good for us at times but I don’t think he’s consistent enough and the transition from midfield to attack is where we always seem to fall down.

I hope we get a quality keeper this window, Wilson can go or be loaned out maybe and Collins becomes second keeper. Let’s get a massive 6’4 bloke from Scandinavia or something like that, that’ll do 😂

Could also do with a better LB, Bidwell has been solid but could be a bit quicker and he’s not getting any younger, and I don’t think Dasilva is up to the job tbh.

And finally we need another CB, a quality one, I’m not yet convinced Kitching is our man, maybe with a bit of time he’ll get there but at the very least we need a back up for the CB position.

Another Nixon story on us tomorrow, lets see what he comes up with this time

Makes me laugh when people complain about these Nixon stories. If he didn’t write anything people would be constantly asking him if he’s got anything on Cov and then when he does people whinge

If I was Alan Nixon I’d tell you lot to go fuck yourselves and not pay Cov any attention whatsoever

from this, first day of the season who are you starting? EMC or wright?
Both, I've said from the first time we were linked with him that he could make an ideal number 10.

Just because he played on the left wing for Peterborough, doesn't mean that's his only position.

IMHO, he's (potentially) too good a player to be cover for Wright. I think he can offer more that Palmer and Allan as an AM. He certainly offers more of a goal threat than those two, he's also stronger, faster, and better at tracking back.

But obviously much depends on who else we bring in.

He's desperately trying to fill column inches again.
It's the same every pre-season, he just regurgitates rumours and gossip off the web.
If you can be arsed to go back 12 months, he was getting called out on here for all the bollocks he was talking about.
But every year people on here quote him 🤷

Why don’t we create a different thread for speculation from football journalists and then those that value such speculation can read it and those that don’t can continue to value what Mick from flat 3 told him down the pub, of they read on Facebook.

Maybe he wasn't as wanted as he wanted to believe then
Or perhaps Robins had a masterstroke in dropping him for Palmer, as he could say “Palmer has performed well” and also not playing Cal. This could have made the bigger offers get withdrawn because of second thinking after seeing him dropped and struggle to get his place back so in the end as you said wasnt as wanted as he thought

You could just lump them all together.
Well know what's happening when saddlebrains tells us!
