Is Sheaf evidently staying? Not been much talk lately of Gyokeres leaving, in fact the opposite given that Sporting’s manager has committed to at least another year.

Don’t get me wrong, I hope he does stay though.

Looking very likely at the moment

Sheaf, Stamenic, Eccles, Torp for midfield options

You'd be hard pressed to find a stronger 4 than that in the league
Hard pressed to find a better front 3 too, now with the extra spice of EMC. Just need to sort the back out and add some depth.

Exactly

As it stands

Midfield options of Stamenic, Sheaf, Eccles, Torp, Palmer

Forward options of Sakamoto, Simms, Wright, EMC, Rodriguez

We really are not far off a great side

Keeper
Centre half
Number 10
Striker

Of REAL quality, supplemented by a couple of loans then just give us the trophy now tbh

Still reckon we're signing a LB too. Nothing wrong with Bidwell but I've just got a feeling, someone more MVEish.

It does seem that for whatever reason Robins wants a different LB to Bidwell. He's tried to replace him a couple of times now... failed each time, mind!
Yeh exactly. I just think he's set on upgrading on him, although as you say it's not gone well so far. Maybe we'll have to spend a bit of money there to achieve it.

Surely COH must be thinking we’ve got a real chance here also.

Does anyone think we are after that Alvyn Sanches we have been linked with?

still can’t see any loans coming in the summer. Doug may take a different view for the next Jan window. Let’s see the depth we get in the summer.

Agree completely but would also add a LB to that list. Bidwell has been great, and no reason to say he’ll suddenly underperform, but in the long term I think we’ll need an upgrade. Yes we also have JDS but I think if we really want to bolster our defence then we need someone a bit better than Bidwell and JDS.

Don't want to pour too much water on this but that is the midfield that finished 9th with a guy who we've never seen play. Don't think we can say we have one of the best midfields in the league.

Has the potential to be but we need Torp to improve & Stamenic to hit the ground running for this to be the case.

2 weeks until pre season begins and Robins wanted his new signings in early.

I'm expecting a busy 2 weeks then
Robins and Viveash back off holiday now @Saddlebrains

Has anything changed to make you think Sheaf is staying? Seemed earlier in the summer you seemed to think if Viktor didn't get sold pretty early then Sheaf might end up getting sold? To be honest Stamenic looks a Sheaf replacement to me.

Just that Robins has again made clear to Doug that Anything less than 20million and it won't happen.

I think £20 mil is just too much for Sheaf personally, he’s good but he’s not £20 mil good? I’d rather sell him for £12-£15 mil and reinvest in the squad than put potential buyers off and keep him. Great player, no doubt about it, but we need more quality and depth, and yes selling Sheaf reduces that quality but if we can get in 3 gems that our scouts have selected then I think I’d rather take the risk than keep Sheaf.

Would appear Robins calculations are that with Sheaf we are more likely to get promoted, which obviously has greater rewards than an initial cash injection from selling one of our best players.

This forum has been awash with "next season is weaker, we have to capitalize". Robins not bending over and selling one of our main assets would appear to indicate he feels the same.

Even if next season doesn't work out, we still wouldn't lose him on a free as he'd still have a year left. This is the right approach I feel. There's also no guarantees any players we'd bring in from a Sheaf sale would pay off. I know you said its a risk you'd accept, but when we're 90% there with the squad, I don't know why we would.

I’d have concerns about both full back positions if anything happened to the first choices. Perhaps loans or free agents for each?
Loans need to be playing, not backing up, and you are unlikely to find free agents of the right quality.

I have seen that Leeds are interested in signing Alfie Gilchrist from Chelsea on loan. An up and coming 20 year old right back. Maybe he could server a purpose for us on loan?

If he goes out on loan I would expect more likely it would be to a PL club .

It is Monday, the Sun has been out, a good day for pictures of new signings!!!! This is the start of a busy couple of weeks. Do we expect the rest of the outs to be announced first - Godden, Wilson, Howley etc and then see the new signings announced?

Leeds want to move Archie Gray back in to the middle of the park this season, so guess he'll slot in as there 1st choice RB. If he was to come to us he wouldn't get in over Milan for a majority of games.

There is no way we bring in someone on loan to compete with MVE as a starter. Milan is our player and seen by most as probably one of the next that could be sold for stupid money next season. There is zero chance we devalue our asset by dropping him for a loan player.

If we are smart we sign someone with potential that can provide backup and grow into a replacement if/when Milan moves on
