I do hope we leave at least one place on the bench for a youth player this season. We really don't need nine substitutes to choose from and there will be occasions when we are winning easily when it would make sense to give one of these players some minutes to gain experience.

I also have a feeling Andrews will break through at some time. You don't start getting minutes in a good team at 16 if the management doesn't think you have high potential. I also liked the look of Dausch in his brief appearances.

Disagree, I’m all for giving members of the academy game time, but when they’re ready and good enough, not just because they’re a youth player

also, how often do we genuinely win easily in this league? This league is tough and I can only think of a couple of games this year we won easily, rotherham being one. We’re normally bringing on players to see out a game, not because we’re 4 up let’s throw anyone on

Of course only if they are good enough, but it seems that we have three or four who might well be. There really is no point having extra senior pros on the bench who Robins has no intention of playing. Robins must know who is likely to be used and who is just on the bench to make up the nine.

I really hope they are will be great for the club.

I genuinely think this is a very hard team to get into now, it wasn’t like the league 2 days. It’s why Eccles deserves so much praise

You don't have to convince me on Eccles. As far as I am concerned he was our best player last year and would be worth a lot now in the transfer market. We need to find a way into the team for home grown talent. I still have hopes for Burroughs and Howley.

I’m really going to try and watch Eccles intently this season, I don’t know what people see in him but there must be something in it, I personally don’t see it at all but there’s too many rave reviews for it to not be true 🤷🏻‍♂️

The first team squad is looking for once really healthy in early-mid July,
GK - Collins / Wilson
RB - van Ewijk / Burroughs
CB - Thomas / Latibeaudiere / Binks / Kitching
LB - Bidwell / Dasilva
CDM - Sheaf / Eccles
CM - Torp / Allen
CAM - Rudoni / Palmer
RW - Sakamoto / Rapha
LW - Haji / Mason Clarke
ST - Simms / Tavares

Like yes there is some areas that could be strengthened, but we have 22 players, 2 per position which is close to our aim of 2 good players per position which I believe we have in quite a few such as CDM, CAM, RW and LW

He's a dependable 7/10 player who does the simple stuff well. Yes, he may not get you off your seat, score or assist loads of goals and his set pieces would be bettered by a one-legged blind Oompah Loompah but you need someone in your squad who can play that no nonsense role.

Mostly agreed, solid player good at the basics, excellent with his defensive duties overall a top defensive midfielder with a good engine and eye for a pass just the attacking side of the game are his limitations, I’d like to see him test the keeper more when he shoots from range and I’d like to see him bomb up more effectively, he already does the box to box well just missing that umpf and steam to make himself a nuisance and drag the opposition midfield to create even more space

He's far better than that. And only Wright had more assists than him and only by one which isn't bad for a holding midfield player. Most of his good work goes unnoticed by many because he didn't cost a few million and doesn't have a fancy foreign name.

Collins or Wilson
Bidwell or JDS
Allen or Howley
Palmer or Tavares

We could move 4 of those and improve the squad but its not easy to find players that 1 improve the position and come with a club friendly deal. Its going to take time to do this but im sure some of these players will not be i our 1st squad come Stoke away.

Trouble is, except for GK, we're potentially now in the position of not offering regular starts. Some players might want to fight to play, but I suspect lots want regular starts?

The potential of not making the matchday squad will be off-putting to some. I think the increase of the bench to 9, plus being able to make 5 subs is pretty much the only decent rule change in recent years. I'd make it an 11 man bench personally...

Robins – who has been extremely tight-lipped about transfer business in recent months – said: “I think we have to wait and see. We have a profile and we have to go with that because that’s a club-wide thing not just a personal preference.

“I think we probably need a bit more experience but then those players who were with us last year have got another year on their backs, so they have been there for 12 months and know what things are about. And hopefully they will benefit from that experience, and I am looking for people to step up and step into roles that have been vacated by others.

“But the dressing room is different, it’s a bit younger but there are some really good and talented players in there and you expect someone to step into any void that’s left, expect that vacuum to be filled and it will be because there are some really good characters in there. When things don’t go so well you are looking for those leaders to have that experience to rely on.”

This suggests that robins probably doesn't have full say on transfers anymore

Even if they don't get on, being on the bench and around the first team match day experience is a vital part of their development. Just being sat in the stands is not the same experience as being fully involved.

Even Bidwell said he learnt a lot about his position tactically by being out the team and on the bench last season.

Believe it or not managers and coaches do know what they are doing. Football is a confidence thing and being on the cusp of the first team and a few minutes here and there can really boost a youngster's confidence; even if fans think those few minutes were a waste of time.

this swedish keeper, another for midfield depth and a striker to replace godden is all we really need

I still think the striker could end up being a loan. There will be clubs with youngsters who would be happy with the occasional game with regular minutes off the bench at Championship level.

I know King isn't a fan of loans but I am sure he would see the sense of a try before you buy type deal? (See Sheaf and Binks)

Looks like not many more new signings coming in with them comments.Bit annoying we didn't get Browne in just for that experienced professional.
Not sure i took that from the comments. Just suggested they actually research players properly now before signing them which takes more time

I wouldn’t be too concerned it’s a very vague article …. Normally Turner asks him how many more we need etc and I’m sure at some point he will ….

It's a fair point from Robins, experience isn't an innate feature of any player so buying a player purely to bring it can be short sighted. That said, that wasn't the only reason we were interested in Browne. I think his message is looking for players like one of the centre backs to step up and provide a bit more leadership.

Well if you invest a lot in a recruitment department you would expect them to do the lion's share of the work.

I would imagine Robin's outlines what he wants, then comes back in at the end of the process and final interview. King will obviously have a big say on the financial side. That's how all the bigger well run club's operate.

Robins is the master of giving an interview and saying nothing unless he wants to land a message.

What did you expect him to say ?

“We can’t start the season without more experience in the team”

“The existing squad don’t have the know how to get us promoted ‘

He has to be positive but relatively neutral until more of the window pans out ….
