So we are going into the season with just Simms upfront then?

Yeah it’s disappointing if that’s it, not because of the excitement factor of signing someone but because I don’t think we’re a complete squad yet. If players like Simms or Sheaf or MVE or Bidwell or Eccles get injured for any serious length of time then we’ll be massively down in terms of quality.

i find it hard to believe we were willing to part with £4m+ on Stamenic and now just because that hasn't happened we aren't gonna get a CM at all

And we spoke to Browne. I am sure we are still looking at midfield options.

Our business isn’t done. When was the last time we concluded our business in July ?

due to slow starts in previous seasons robins wanted all players in to give them a proper pre season. past couple of years we’ve signed players late and took team to gel

he wanted to mitigate that this season

So we have held talks with a striker and Worrall, agreed a fee for Stamenic, and been linked to various midfielders and yet @GIMOC would gave us believe there are no more perm players coming in 🤔

right player needs to be available. Players were targeted long back. we can’t just bring a like for like player in who is not available within our budget.

we don’t have an urgency. be a luxury now

So the backup plan is not to bother? Seems unlikely mate.

Id suggest we do have an urgency upfront if Simms gets injured then Obikwu is the backup unless we put Wright in the middle

So Robins spent all of last season moaning about how small the squad was but is now happy to go into this season with the same sized squad? Ok

there is a difference. Of course he wants more in but has to be the right player at the right price.

fans think we have loads of money and options, not the case

hence why the loan market might be utilised. If no players are available then it’s hard to find the right player who would be back up

All managers want their signings in for pre season training. But the transfer market doesn't work like that, especially if you miss out on a target.

Robins has said in interview it doesn't always work that way. He accepts what you set out to achieve may not happen within those time scales.

But I agree with another post of yours it will only be the right player at the right price. Finding them isn't as easy as some think.

the gaffer wanted all his business done before this weekend. the striker we wanted didnt materialise. I would guess a loan as cover. I dont envisage much more to happen unless Hamer or Vik goes
‘The gaffer’…

Can’t say I recall many of us fans referring to MR as ‘gaffer’.

Very odd.

I think it would be highly unlikely that we would have only had one target for a position. I have seen it quoted that we usually have plans A, B and C

and if plan a and b doesn’t materialise and c has signed for another team what happens then? other teams will have players targeted similar or same as us. not hard to grasp

So the gaffa has failed spectacularly then in getting signings he had hoped for.

Reminds me of Mowbray the season we got relegated from League 1.

He has a goatee now. Officer Crabtree, that is. Not sure about David Rennie.

There will be at least 2 more in - its just that GIMOC is out of the loop - Remember when we signed Tats - only when he was spotted on an airport photo did we learn about him, and thats bringing him over from japan

There will be a midfielder and forward in certainly before the end of the window - or else the money spent so far would have been foolish, as you either go for promotion seriously or you dont - You dont spend £10m+ EMC/Rudoni/ Dovin/ Raphael/Binks and then say, we werent serious

We don't have one target and give up. We have first target, second target and so on down the list.

midfield will be slow because we got so close with our first target.

You also don't say "I want everyone in for pre-season" then if nobody comes in you go 'sound, no business then"

it's ideal for us to get them in as early as possible but if it takes longer then it does. The squad has nowhere near the churn it did last year so the start should be nothing like it was. A couple quality late signings aren't going to ruin that.

If that's the situation then we can understand that but its still disappointing for fans not to see or hear of any action other than an outgoing striker with no replacement and other supposed targets signing elsewhere whilst the window gradually ticks away

Guys relax. a) GIMOC b) if Simms gets injured we have to play our record signing in his preferred position with EMC and Sakamoto either side of him. Everyone is writing off Fabio bizarrely because he scored against Maidstone or because turning the game against Man U proves he needs to leave or something...

So Obikwu - why are people wetting the bed about having a 20 year old international as our third choice striker? Chances are he would barely play, we have another month to assess needs before the transfer window closes and if we can muddle through a few months after that we will be in January. And who knows; he might even be good.

Obviously I want a couple more in. I tend to agree with Tea&Biscuits that a right sided attacker to cover Sakamoto may be a priority (depending on Raphael), and I think Sheaf's injuries affected us last year but the main thing is to stay solvent coz - I don't want to go back there. The squad is good. With a fair wind blowing it would do fine as it is.

The sheaf position worries me. If he is sold late in window we have no obvious replacement. If he is injured now, and for arguments sake, misses the first month or two of the season we could start poorly again and be playing catch up with promotion chasing sides.
Any other position I think we have reasonable short term (4-6 games) cover.

Some of the panic in the last page or two is grim. We've spent pushing £40m on players, improved the squad, sorted the training ground, sold 22k season tickets and people have resorted to '...but what if?'. jfc
Its just GIMOC dropping a bomb based on nothing knowing that it'll send a select few into a frenzy. I'm convinced he's trolling at this point and fair play because its working.
