We don't need a hard bastard, we need players like Allen, Torp, Palmer actually stepping up and being counted rather than being happy to just feature. We need Simms to start believing in himself again to bully and drag defenders around.

Yes another 'quality' midfielder would be great, but these lot have been here a while now and Robins has kept them for a reason and they need to start stepping up. Allen had good excuses last season with missing pre season with a heart scare, but he's had a full pre season, featured in every game and he needs to now step up or step out.

It’s been a great window already. It’s bizarre to say we’re disappointed with additions like Dovin, Rudoni, Binks, Mason-Clark, Thomas-Asante. Bizarre

Has the actual starting 11 got stronger though?.

I'm pleased we have the depth its much needed and should definitely help us as it was our chilled heel last year

But we are still quite clearly missing a quality midfielder and solid centre half to improve the 11

Rudoni and Dovin look like improvements. Bizarre that since the start of last season we’ve lost Hamer Kelly Fadz and not replaced any of them though. I guess Torp was supposed to be the Hamer replacement but let’s be honest he’s nowhere near.

Lati, Binks, Kitch and Thomas are our CBs. Like anything it takes time to grow and develop. We cannot be so short sighted to write them all off after one season where for the most part, all of them have been applauded and proven they have quality but of course all had moments of disappointing spells.

Torp was signing in January and now is the time for him to step up.

It's up to MR, boatang, Carr, Delaney and Dempster to get the best out of them now. We cannot just keep throwing money at someone and writing off players based on one shit performance. We cannot, it's not FM, these are real people and real players who are young and will progress. McFadz at BT age was playing part time footy for example.

Jamie Allen isn’t good enough to get us where we need to get to.

King is going to have to take financial risk. We know money will be coming, but can’t not get more in.

This squad is good enough to finish in the top 6 without additions.

Time for MR and the players to deliver, let’s stop making excuses for them already ….

Yeah it is odd tbf, we’ve improved the depth of the squad in attacking areas - which was definitely an issue - but we’ve not improved the defensive midfield aspect of our game at all. I think it’s one of the most crucial areas on the pitch tbh, if we can’t stop the opposition effectively or move the ball up the pitch effectively then we’re fucked.

It isn't

We still have a gaping hole in midfield

Torp so far hasn't looked the part, Sheaf and Eccles though great together, have a lot of injuries (mainly sheaf) leading to a huge drop off In quality when that happens

Our centre midfield isn't top 6 worthy (without Sheaf)

There would always have been a point that we ran out of the Gyokeres and Hamer money and whilst some more might yet come in , it looks as if we are out of cash? we have clear needs maybe as many as 4 but a CM above all is desperately needed

I would argue that our midfield of Sheaf, Rudoni and either Eccles or Torp is as good as the Ipsw midfield that got promoted and the Luton midfield that got promoted ….. yes another high quality CDM or 8 would help but every team will say they just need another X …..

No, @Saddlebrains is right. Robins is playing 3 in midfield, a combination of 6's and 8's. Allen's not good enough to be anything other than a rotational player brought on to rest others, Palmer is a 10. That leaves 4 midfielders for 3 positions, and one of them is injured. That's simply not enough depth to achieve what we're hoping for.

Completely agree, when Sheaf is out, and Eccles carrying a knock then we are at bare bones. Allen is not the answer, an addition in defensive midfield is the answer

So with Allen we have 5, plus Lati can do an emergency job that’s 6 then there is Kai Andrews 7
Ryan Howley 8

I don’t disagree that IDEALLY we would strengthen further but let’s not give the team an out already ….

Allegedly BNC has signed for Roma for £1.7m with a further £1.7m in add ons
BNC to Genoa

You mentioned Latibeaudiere could be picked, in an "emergency". Really playing Allen anywhere in midfield is an emergency. In the very realistic scenario where Sheaf and Eccles could be unavailable, we'd be looking at a situation where we're trying to win games with "emergency" selections.

Perhaps, but goes to show that he wouldn’t have been anywhere near as expensive as speculated.
Yep - I am surprised at the fee being so low. I assume though that the wages for a 2nd choice right-back just wouldn't add up for us, unfortunately. He also needs to be first choice at this stage in his career.

If we were selling MVE...

Exactly. We’ve only upgraded our attacking options, but nothing on the defensive side. We’re very imbalanced as a squad especially on the defensive side at the moment. Any injuries or suspensions further exacerbates the problems.

The squad is unbalanced in my opinion we need to see movement both ways to get this right. We have to move a few on, or hope that Vik and Hamer clubs get offers they cant refuse. We still need 3 quality signings in key areas to get the depth and balance right. But Im sure the club are working hard and know what is needed, unfortunately it takes time and money.. Which i don't think we have, unless players are moved on.

It is I agree

But when you have Torp Sheaf and Eccles all made of weetabix, we are then forced to play Jamie fucking Allen, who, despite being solid for us over the years is no longer good enough

That's our issue

If we could somehow guarantee Sheaf Eccles and Torp could play 46 games a season we wouldn't need a quality midfielder

But they won't, so we do

If you're saying we are OK To rely on Andrews Allen and Howley of push comes to shove then I hope your expectations for this year are trying to stay up not be solidly in the top 6

I don't agree around the CB, I think we have enough cover and quality there.

CM is a problem, as it was last season.

I do wish that people would stop discussing Kelly and Fadz, though. Kelly was past it the year we made Wembley but was given a sentimental contract, and Fadz was going that way.

I don't want us to rush out and get the wrong player, though, and while it's frustrating that Stamenic went elsewhere, I am happy we are shopping in a competitive pool of players.

There's also little point signing someone who we aren't certain about. We can't carry a 3 year contract for someone not good enough or who doesn't fit.

Its well known that some are saying we need a DM, RCB and RB to finish bettering the squad for now. The fact that we have not gone for BNC , to me says, (a) we have no money (b) we have other better targets in mind or (c) MRs priorities lie with the RCB / DM requirement. Take your pick

d) we can't afford the wages and appearances expectation.

I’m not saying that at all.

I’m saying virtually every team in the championship has its strengths and areas of exposure. We are no different.

Whether we like it or not Robins rates Allen. He’s made him Captain during pre season !

I think Sheaf, Eccles, Torp, Rudoni, Allen, and Lati should be enough. If it’s not we can always go 4-4-2 and play with just 2 central midfielders from that 6.

Tats- Eccles- Lati - EMC

Wright - Simms

Even with a weaker central 2 it’s still a very good competitive formation at championship level

We were awful on Saturday but that doesn’t mean we should all press the panic button and write off the season unless we bring another CM in, which we might still do.
