Being honest Allen is not what we need in that part of the pitch either. What concerns me is there's yet another parallel with England in having a defensive manager in charge of a group that's imbalanced in favour of attacking players.
Yeah that’s an interesting observation

We’re not going to play 4-4-2. Nobody in the modern game does.

you negate MVE to a purely defensive Role. The central midfield gets overrun by 4-3-3 and 4-2-3-1.

the wide players are seen as more deeper - so again you’re negating the attacking prowess of Wright and whoever is in the right.

further to that as there’s nobody behind the strikers there’s a massive gap in attacking midfield that is usually mopped up by a DM. The strikers would be totally isolated

Disagree completely, if teams aren’t expecting a 4-4-2 because “it’s not the modern way” then maybe we’ll provide a challenge they’ve not trained for or expected. Also I believe we should play to our strengths rather than conform to what other teams are doing, if we have a lack of quality in midfield but have a plethora of wingers then we should use a formation that utilises wingers more than central midfielders.

I still think MVE will provide a good attacking outlet from deep, either by beating the odd player or crossing a ball in from deep. We shouldn’t be in the position where we’re relying on him to be so attacking anyway, it’s only because our midfield is so wank at moving forward that we need him. As for the gap behind the strikers, we have that already, a lack of connection to the strikers, so I don’t think going 4-4-2 will make anything worse in that department.

I was literally just thinking this the other day but didn’t want to say anything for fear of being witch-hunted with Robins-shaped pitchforks 😂

Don’t have a go at me personally if you think I’m wrong, I’m purely speculating, but to me it feels like Robins is very defensive and yet our squad is very attack-minded. Something about the combo just feels off to me, and I’m not saying “Robins out”, I just think the squad has the weird indescribable feeling about it, like it’s sort of out of kilter with the way it wants to be run 🤷🏻‍♂️

Could Ghoddos be a good signing. Still a free agent got experience and a centre mid?
Definitely worth a punt, if only on a short term contract.

He's got bags of experience, and would replace KP in the squad.
He'd be a relatively low risk free signing, and we now have Palmers wage available.

As soon as Dovin and Rudoni walked in and Wright, Simms, Ewijk and Saka didn’t walk out this was an excellent window. The others are a bonus. I don’t get the clamour just to sign anyone. They would eat up budget. It’s far better to wait until you can get who you want. If I was King and was faced with fans who believe the window has been poor I’d be severely disappointed

We’ve kept all our star players in this window. Which is a bonus. I think this is the first summer we haven’t sold a star player(s) to fund transfers in a very long time.

Sunderland gone absolutely mental signing players since the window closed. Looks like 3 with another to be done.

One of them is a DCM that played 6 times in the Champions League last year ffs.

Interesting that the DCM, Salis Samed is a Ghana international on a loan from Lens, named in 2023 as best CM in French football by a French sports news outlet.

Given we were looking for a CM and he played in the WC under Boateng, I wonder whether he was on our radar.

Probably not as we obviously are ignoring the loan market

This was a cheerful read this morning.

Yep, it’s massively frustrating we didn’t get another CM in, but the squad is more than good enough. Some of the over the top doomsday predictions are embarrassing.

I also wouldn’t be surprised to see us revert to a flatter three (6 and two 8’s) in midfield once Sheaf if fit, which will better suit the players we have.

Good enough for what?

A top 10 finish with a chance at the playoffs - certainly, but it could have been much better. The imbalance is frustrating, most of our forwards would walk into any of our rivals first 11 yet only 1 of our midfielders would, and yet despite having 3 windows since the PO final we have failed in that task.

As I've said before, this season is (in my opinion) our best shot at promotion in DKs 5 year plan. Looking back it may have been better to sell Sheaf early this summer and use those funds to strengthen midfield, knowing that next summer we will still need to sort out CM and more than likely need to replace at least a couple of MVE, Wright, Simms and the whole process starts again.

Seems that a large majority on here, think that Eccles and Torp are both poor players. Only fit for bottom end championship teams.
I can’t wait for them to prove you all wrong.
Hope you’re there later to give them your full support,as they strive to get three points for your team.

What is happening in the championship in the 2 seasons after this one then that will make it harder ??

Reggie cannon is available as mentioned previously. would be great RB/CB cover.
Had his contract terminated by mutual consent, a year into a 4 year contract. Had previous strife with Boavista about wages, got sent off twice in the league for them.

Strikes me as a player who hasn’t settled in Europe.

It depends who you replace with and how you spend the investment ….

We lost Gykores and are better for it. The same with Hamer.
