Interesting Robins post match said he wasn’t after anyone on deadline day and had done all his business by then.
I don't think he said that. More that what they were trying to do was stymied by inflated demands that they weren't prepared to meet.

He wasn’t happy, it sounded like agents maybe scuppered a deal or two. He also mentioned palmer and his agent agitating for move and his performance against Oxford suggested he was tapped up before game.
Hull were interested all summer, it was a matter of waiting for them to make their move. There were 2 other teams (ironically one being Norwich). I believe after the Oxford game and the day following, there were words exchanged, probably resulting in the fast pace of the move.

What over was it Robins criticising his defending?

Yeah, I guess that ties in with what I was told today. Wages seemingly the general problem. Or more so, the agents.
Wonder if we can re look at the wage structure. Feels painful to miss out on key players if there slightly over an arbitrary limit. Happy the club are being responsible however with the long term finances.

Great post Jimmy. It’s what most sort of thought was happening. I’d much rather build with solid foundations than spaff money on fillers. There does seem to be a certain tension though in terms of the type of players we are now after versus a fairly rigid wage structure. Do you think there is any appetite to operate outside of it?
Yay everything is great according to you.

Who's doing it wrong then procdoc, give us the list, Rudoni was particularly innefecive for me today?who else was subpar and what were they guilty of, Simms Haji Wright?
Firstly we do not move the ball quick enough to the attacking players. Torp wants an age on the ball to release it. Eccles doesn’t have the vision and Rudoni was just dreadful today. Simms didn’t cover himself in glory and has been shit all season. Wright at least always looks a threat

Fair enough I think!

I wish I could say more, but I respect the club want to move quietly. If people knew they type of players we are going for, it would probably change a lot of views on the matter. We're almost 2 years into a 5 year plan (probably a provocative statement today), it's going to take time to get the right players in the right positions. Replacing one by one is tedious, but that's FFP and wage structure for you, I don't want us to return to the days when we were all selling no reinvesting. It's just perspective. I get the frustration, but I see people on here who are nowhere to be seen when the team are doing well, then whipping up the negativity at the first opportunity. That's not general fan frustration, it's doom mongering. Looking at it, I don't think any of the teams touted for the top, have really had the best starts possible, look at Luton. I still think the Championship is wide open this season. Strange results everywhere in the first few weeks.
Jimmy , is there any hope we will pick up a cork or James to help out numbers and experience wise this season?

I can't, no. They're targets that will be carried to the next window. One came very close, wage structure proving difficult, I believe it fell through quite late on. I didn't know anything about the RB we had a bid rejected for. Also there was a loanee who picked up an injury and remained with parent club. Seems things just weren't falling into place for us.
From what I've heard today, we should be thankful we are now in a position to turn down bids, as there were 3 rejected. In past years we'd have sold last minute and not had chance to bring anyone else in, so I'm grateful.
Today could've been a worse atmosphere than what it already was. As disappointed as I am we didn't strengthen the glaringly obvious, I know it wasn't through lack of effort.
I know people are upset Palmer left without replacement, I thought for sure they'd have it sorted if he was departing, but after today I know there was no coming back into the team for him.
Sheaf back in training next week.

top one Philip Billing, will be revisited 👍🏼

Even if you disregard Asante and Bassette, we've still got two 20 goal strikers 😅

That last sentence is key. Cov are just one of a dozen clubs with genuine claims to be promotion contenders

This is a superb post.

Club might really need to rethink how important this policy is to them. Fine if they really nailed the end of transfer window but having cracked down on ITKs they then completely failed to deliver. If a potential signing gets injured/costs the earth or mucks us around - we get it, right? But the complete absence of information - do they know what they are doing/did they really try?

Why did we bring in more attackers than we needed? Why haven't they prioritised midfield? Did they gamble on Gyokeres and Hamer moving? There has been a lot of change to backroom staff at the club recently - is that working? In the absence of information, bedwetters fill the void and it is hard to escape the conclusion that someone, somewhere really f#ked up.

This is not what Robins said.

he said we tried, it got difficult due to the number of parties, the cost of the deal, little time to do diligence on the player etc but he confirmed they tried.

Is there anyone on the free agent list that is genuinely worth a look? I get that if they havent got a clue there is a reason and that they've done no pre-season, but at this stage we are worse off that last year in numbers and in some key areas

Yes let them go all out information, give step by step updates on who they want, how much etc just to appease some fans who cant cope with not knowing. If you genuinely beleive they didnt go after a midfielder, even after what Jimmy and others have said, then i despair. Transfers take time. If you had your way we would sign any oold shite player just to fill yourr quota. What happens then is fans like you maon how shite they are and we start all over again.

Just sign up a local UFC fighter or something. Any nasty challenges against us, throw him on with 2 mins to go to fuck them up a bit. Turn football into Ice Hockey.

The "wages will be an issue" argument always makes me laugh when it comes to free agents.

They are currently on £0 a week.
I know but they are also multi millionaires who have a view on their own value ( even if it’s distorted )

very few players go from £80k per week to £25k per week.

Almost all of them don’t need to work again so a few months without a footballing income isn’t really the end of the world to them …

Don't know who's available for free but in my ideal Football Manager world, I'd be looking for an experienced centre midfielder leader to pull it altogether.

I get that. But the basic point of my post is, that you can't just dismiss free agents because they used to earn £Xxx.

The ones we should be looking at, will want to continue to play at a reasonable level. And will have to accept lower pay.

They are free agents for a reason. They are no longer "good enough" to play and get paid the level they were once at.
