No, we should sign some PL quality players if we get to the PL.
Bristol City are away to Burnley. If they don't win that game we're still in the top 6. If WBA don't win at Norwich we also stay above them. There's a good chance we stay in 5th even if we lose.Lose a week Friday and we’ll be lucky to stay in the top 10
Easier said than done, though. Proven PL players will largely be outside our financial reach, whilst bringing in top quality European signings will have the added risk of whether they adapt. Clearly it’d have to be a mix of the two for financial reasons, but I think carrying over 4-5 starters from this season would be a necessity in the first season at least.
Edit: just had a Quick Look at the difference between Fulham’s championship side and PL side. From their last win in the championship (not counting their last game as there was a lot of rotation) to their first PL game they carried over 7 starters. Now, I know they basically ran away with the league and we are in a vastly different position, but it does suggest there are players in Championship squads who can make the step up.
Completely agree.Lose a week Friday and we’ll be lucky to stay in the top 10
We have Wright. He would score goals in the Prem but he wouldn't have it as easy as now. Even after taking time to get back after injury he is on 0.72 goals per 90 minutes. Good with both feet.Exactly, Fulham were a level above where we are now. Same as Leeds are now. Those sort of Championship 1.5 players like Hamer or the lad whose name escapes me who scored all the goals for Fulham. I don’t think we have any of those players. We’d be hoping maybe Rudoni develops or maybe Dovin develops.

To stay up you realistically have to make the team greater than the sum of its parts. You are not realistically going to sign that many players, just need to be very precise about who you sign and what for. Tightening up defensively seems the obvious place, so that's a protective midfielder and probably a centre half.
Some strange comments about Rudoni on here, the only player his multi trophy winning 100 cap international has so far said has a high ceiling.
That's the thing with a goalscorer. They have it in their locker but they still need to have the chances. Just been looking at his stats. Conversion rate to shots is nearly 25% with another 2 shots hitting the woodwork.Yeah Wright maybe TBF. He’s a funny one because his allround game can look quite uninspiring then he scores a load of goals.

Will be harder in the Prem though as we would be playing with our backs to the wall a lot. And the defenders would be on another level. But last game showed what he is capable of.
Dovin is nowhere near where he will end up. It comes with experience with a GK. With Rudoni we won't know until it happens. His improvement under Lampard has been massive. But it would need to continue just for him to become an average Prem player. The question with Rudoni and Dovin is can the reach that ceiling next season more than how high the ceiling is.
Pete, stop sensationalising, we are 5 points above 8th position, so unless there are new rules introduced giving teams 5/6 points for a win then the lowest we could drop is 7th lolLose a week Friday and we’ll be lucky to stay in the top 10

Totally agree .This has given me a small glimpse into what it would be like on here if we did get promoted. Even more batshit seems to be the answer and a full summer of people telling us we need to 'do a Forest'.
Burnley and Ipswich both spent over £100 million and still have been comfortably put down btw so "we'd get relegated if we did x,y or z" is hardly a mega brain take. The chances of us being relegated whatever we do are incredibly high and the reason why there are so many conversations in the wider football community about the growing gap between the leagues. I'd still love it though, the financial security, the attention it would bring to our club would be fantastic and yes, personally i'd enjoy seeing how players like Jack Rudoni could perform on the big stage.
I mean by the end of the season not after one gamePete, stop sensationalising, we are 5 points above 8th position, so unless there are new rules introduced giving teams 5/6 points for a win then the lowest we could drop is 7th lol
Totally agree .
If we get promoted I hope it is with the caveat that we build a side that is competitive but will be in place the following season . Going for broke will put us back years if/when we get relegated.
I don't think King is a gambler in that respect
Correct, i can't see us doing it anyway so people saying we should on here is irrelevant. Would we give it more of a go than Luton and Sheffield United? Looking at the backing from King in this division then certainly yes. Would we do a Forest or even a Burnley?... absolutely no chance.Totally agree .

why would that be? The team in 7th still has to play Burnley,Sunderland and LeedsI mean by the end of the season not after one game
And there aren't many teams in better form than us eitherwhy would that be? The team in 7th still has to play Burnley,Sunderland and Leeds
the team in 8th has to play Leeds, Norwich and us
The team in 6th has to play Norwich, Sunderland, Bristol, Watford and us
There's going to be loads of dropped points all round and losing to a team that I believe would be top if not for a points deduction isn't the end of our season
It as a joke about how we’ll react on here if we lose at Sheffield Unitedwhy would that be? The team in 7th still has to play Burnley,Sunderland and Leeds

Looking at it, think pragmatism is a thing all the teams who went up (bar cooper’s Leicester) lacked.I think one of our biggest assets if we go up is Lampard. In the interviews I've seen with him he seems very pragmatic in his approach, willing to amend his style of football to a team or league. He's not a Russell Martin who sticks to one way of playing regardless if it's successful or not. His knowledge of the league above as a coach, and a player, could make a massive difference. He's a smart guy who is constantly willing to learn and implement new ideas.
They are young and going to improve yetOur defence is letting in poor goals in the Championship. What on earth do you think would happen to them in the PL? As much as I like Thomas and Kitching they aren't PL quality.
Was it you Evo was arguing about regarding sheff utd quality at start of season?why would that be? The team in 7th still has to play Burnley,Sunderland and Leeds

I still think we'd be way off . We would need goals and only Wright and Simms are our only real threats now so we would need a quality addition in that area . And as others have mentioned the back 4/5 lacks pace ,MvE aside . So we would need at the bare minimum 1-2 left backs and 2 centre backsI think people are overlooking how much difference the right signings can make. I'd be laser focused on four or five key players. Add a solid PL-calibre CB with pace, an MVE clone at LB, a Grimes double and a Haji-level RW and I genuinely think we'd have a punchers chance of staying up.

You need to stink up the place at times and think a modern example is Brentford who happily swap to a back three and go long when needed what has paid dividends for them. Hope if we go up, we recruit with the idea of using both the 4/3/3 and 5/3/2

Only real threats , I meant as regards out and out strikers . Of course we've got goals across our squad at this level but in the Premier League you need a lot from your strikers to surviveOur only threats!!??
