he got lucky

please tell me out of this current squad would make it in the prem?

we’ve spent 40 mill, how many of this ‘deck’ would make the jump to the prem?

Bombshell threw everything out
The lady who asked the first question after that was great and he didn’t answer as was the lad of here after

It wasn’t very fair of him to throw mr under the bus but I can’t believe how many in the room and on here were like oh well robins is the past and king is the future so thanks but we move on
I don’t really like him he’s arrogant and answers as if he knows everything when he clearly can’t know everything

That said he fronted up and didn’t do bad - he didn’t really answer the question of why

It seemed to be because his coaches aren’t good enough and results are going to get us relegated which doesn’t quite work

If he’s told the truth, I have no problems with anything he’s said. Especially because of the narrative behind the coaching structure and who was involved in getting rid of AV. The reason it was a curveball because people had this idea that it was all Doug and Dr Roberts.

You can forgive our form being what it is if you believe the manager has the team around him to turn things around. From what DK said, he lost faith in Robins as he believed the ‘tried and tested’ formula was MR and AV, which is something the fan base as a whole believed in too. The difference being they didn’t think it was Robins sacking his long time associate.

There are two things I’m sceptical of:
1) was MR blocked from hiring Ramsey
2) did King/hierarchy jettison the Matty James deal

I don’t trust King’s narrative 100% but it dispelled a few toxic narratives that started to brew on this forum and the fan base as a whole. I personally felt that he handled the occasion well and did a good job of cooking the temperature of the situation.

Based on current performances, not many but that’s the point. These players need the coaches to develop them into Prem players. If the MR regime wasn’t doing that, it’s a problem. AV had an elite coaching pedigree and who’s replaced that vacuum?

Not sure. At least he’s reinvested the receipts from Vik and Hamer rather than bank it all. What’s your point? He’s trying to grow the value of the squad - a good thing!

Agree with this. That whole part was very confusing. Sounded like they interviewed good candidates but MR essentially never put a CV in front of him and said “I want this one”.

But at the same time, some of them also didn’t want to be Number 2s?

Bizarre.
Was he trying to say the role Robins wanted to recruit was effectively head coach thus making him redundant.

It does feel like a lot of strange diversionary revelations amongst some truth.

do you really think the reason they fell out was because of a newspaper article?
Definitely not, not a single person has even read that article, I’ve a pop up for Tesco, then a pop up for Aldi, another for something else and that’s just one line into the article, rinse and repeat the amount of pop up ads, no one has ever read that unless you are over 60 and still have it physically delivered to you.

Got a feeling Robins lawyers will now be asking for a bit more in his settlement agreement
I'm not sure I get this take either, he hasn't said anything beyond Robins and Adi's relationship fell down that's his right to say. He probably wouldn't have without the backlash but such is life.

He is the owner and it is ultimately his prerogative but looking in from the outside I personally disagree with that decision.

The coaching structure is questioned from 30/09/24 when we have 5 points from 7 games, that structure stays the same and on the surface the results improve to gain 10 points from the next 7 before Mark Robins is sacked.

If we continue to gain 10 points every 7 games we end up on around 60 points don't we which is usually around 14th?

I'm not suggesting there haven't been problems and everything is perfect and rosy but is that relegation form or is it simply that ending one season in the Championship in say 14th which has now become unacceptable after finishes in the Championship of 16th, 12th, 5th and 9th.

I personally feel Robins earned more leeway than that just as I felt Sillett had before the clamour at that time for us to bring in a younger manager.

Ultimately I think King's decision can only be judged in the end on whether we end up doing better than 14th or not and how that position stacks up against our end of season position in the previous 4 years.

He stated that the standard of coaching wasn’t good enough, I was in the room and could see that he thought he’d fucked up with the way he answered that question and then backtracked.

Really wouldn’t surprise me to see a few of them out the door in the next couple of weeks.

It’s been suggested that Dempster and Delaney could go back to their old jobs, no? Or was that ITK guesswork?

Only a few players who step up with promoted teams make it in the prem. Look at Gus - he came back down, and no PL club went in for him. Brereton Diaz barely plays for a sh*t Southampton etc etc

He did a great job of telling us how fantastic a manager Mark Robins had been and that he didn't really have much option but to throw him under a bus, for the benefit of the club.

Not about this squad making it to the prem though as it is this squad getting into the top six.

As is the way doubt many of them would play if we went up.

hamer made it in the prem. he was one of their only good players

So again, how many of our players will make it in the prem?

Spending 40 mill you should hope a few could/would

I think tonight really showed that there is an awful lot that goes on behind the scenes of a football club that usually never sees the light of day.

My takeaways from tonight:

Doug King backed “the team” of Mark and Ady, and was basically acting as marriage councillor when they fell out for whatever reason, seemingly beginning after the Wolves game?. Ultimately didnt work in keeping them together and so backed the manager.

Robins was the main proponent of the flat coaching structure which appears behind the scenes has not gone down well with players and isnt the elite structure that DK wants in place, but he went along with it initially

Robins was effectively told to sort it out and recruit a head coach to work underneath him but above the other coaches (i think this is the bit that needs the most clarity) but couldnt or didnt put anyone infront of king (i suspect here that Marks stubbornness meant he didnt want anyone)

I think the Chris Ramsey thing came too little too late, maybe Robins grew nervous after the poor start and then tried to 180 but by then the conversations or thoughts about sacking him had started and so they werent going to commit at that point to a new person into the coaching set up.

If Robins & Viveash were still together and on good terms and poor start happened, they wouldnt have been sacked because Doug trusted them both

But Robins and new coaches on their own werent trusted to turn it around.

The singular visions and expectations of this season was to clearly start strong and really have a go of it. They believe its the strongest squad we’ve ever had and that Robins and this coaching set up were at risk of squandering it.

On the face of it, its possible to see how all of that is true.

again

we’ve spent 40mill and you can’t name one player who could make it in the prem

speaks volumes
