Never rated the Specials. Seen them live even bought a couple of singles
But no......Message to you Rudy ... awful song.
Amazed to hear that.
I liked them when they started, saw them twice in 1979 at Tiffanys and next time 2019 in Catherdral. An absolutely incredible band.

Have you listened to their lyrics? Songs are just as relevant 45 years on in fact even more so with the racism in society being encouraged by some of the political parties in UK.
'Message to you Rudy' is actually one of my favourites too.
Everyone has their own taste admittedly.

Granted it was a very short time but between 1979 and 1981 they were very big. They were featuring at the top of the music charts when people bought a serious amount of records. It's what a lot of people outside Coventry positively associate with us.

Even if you want to discount the music, the 2 tone movement and the anti racist message it sent out is something we should be proud originated from our town. I've never understood the need by some to denigrate them. I guess in football terms it could be argued that it follows from our history of slating homegrown players from Bobby Gould, through Andy Blair, Marcus Hall, Gary Mcsheffrey and now Josh Eccles, and that there will always be elements of bitterness to local boys done good..

It’s not slating though is it, music tastes change. Two tone was big as you said for 2 years. The message is fine.

the music just isn’t popular, when you consider that you lead into 80s with more popular nationwide and world wide acts following into the 90s where you got bands like Oasis, Blue, Spice Girls, Take That etc

It’s for nothing to do with that whatsoever, some people just don’t like their music as much as others. Our fanbase doesn’t slate homegrown players either.

Not our entire fanbase granted, but all the specific examples I gave faced abuse from elements of our support.
