Swindon were successful in their appeal and the ban has been cancelled.

That's very surprising. I'm shocked they have even appealed it tbf. Let alone had it overturned. It was as clear as day he raised his hand to Doyle's face. A blind man could see it was a red card. This is something else that shows how shit the authorities in football are. The sport is becoming a joke.

We all know that if it was Doyle who got red carded and us that appealed the authorities would have laughed and probably put an extra match ban on for a frivolous appeal

By rights the game should be replayed as the sending off may have affected the result.

The FA should have refused the appeal and had a quiet word with the ref to make sure he gets it right next time.

Regards.

Is there anymore detail on what grounds they've made the decision? I thought it was only supposed to be mistaken identity or a clear refereeing error.

"The midfielder was sent-off for violent conduct during our 2-1 defeat to Coventry City in midweek, with the club opting to claim for wrongful dismissal.

After supplying video evidence, The FA panel ruled that it wasn't violent conduct and it was in fact a case of wrongful dismissal."

How can it be wrongful dismissal. he raised his hand to an opponents face

You normally only get it rescinded for a) mistaken identity or b) if the offence isn't even worthy of a yellow card. So they are in fact saying it's not even a yellow.

I think you have to accept the decision by the panel.

In the same way we accepted DIon's dismissal at Blackburn all those years ago (not sure we did though).
That was unbelievable. I can't recall the outcome now tho, was the red rescinded? And for that matter was Hendry brought to task for simulation?

Wrongly or rightly it was the refs "opinion" at the time that it was violent conduct and I think most of us would agree. I'd be very disappointed if I was the ref to have that decision overturned.

As long as one of our players strikes an opposition player in the face and is red carded it's recinded!

Yeah and Dion never actually made contact with Hendry .

I remember it well, Gary Pallister (I think) did exactly the same as Dion on the same weekend, and he got his red card rescinded

Something isn't right about it, didn't their manager say Doyle bit him?

Wasn't it Doyle's studs down his leg first, then bite when they were both on the ground?

Says a lot about the standard of officiating in this country in general. League 2 is absolutely appalling and I’m sure it’ll cost us a point or 3 in the not too distant future.

I think the officials got it spot in! Looks like the authorities though beg to differ.

Sorry, I agree. Should’ve clarified. Yeah, the sending off was correct on this occasion but I’ve felt that in a lot of games - particularly at the Ricoh - opposition have got away with murder. Authorities are just as clueless. How they’ve overturned this is bizarre. He’s raised his hands. Automatic red.

This is all pretty curious. After their manager's comments following the game I was half expecting charges against Doyle especially as the footage seemed to suggest something had gone on before he was pushed in the face

They can't bring charges if he was booked at the time can they?

I believe they can if there was something else that hadn't been seen. For example if Doyle was booked for dissent and footage showed that there had also been violent conduct which the ref hadn't spotted.
Not saying there was but that's an example of how there could be an extra sanction
