Taking sides for local derbies/big rivalries (1 Viewer)

We did this before a few years back, but thought it was worth digging up again.

Do you always take sides for local rivalry matches, or are you a bit meh about some of them, or all of them?

I definitely plump for certain sides in local matchups.

Liverpool v Everton - Everton.

Always used to be Liverpool when Everton were top dogs, but I now kind of feel sorry for them and so go for the Blues over the Reds.

Man Utd v Man City - Man City.

Even if City have gotten a bit too big for their boots these days, I feel that Man Utd. reigned for far too long.

Sheff Utd v Sheff Weds - Wednesday

OBVIOUSLY!

Bristol City v Bristol Rovers - Rovers.

Developed a soft spot for Rovers after Bobby Gould was manager there.

Ipswich v Norwich - A bit meh.

Guess if I had to lean in one direction, if I was pushed, I would side with Norwich.

Spurs v Arsenal - Spurs

I know Arsenal play good football these days, but they never used to and Spurs always seemed to be a bit classier.

Rangers v Celtic - Rangers

Plumped for them as a kid and have stuck by them ever since.

Newcastle v Sunderland - Newcastle

OBVIOUSLY. And besides, I have never met a bad Geordie before. Every encounter has been positive.

Birmingham v Villa - Birmingham

West Brom v Wolves - West Brom

Every single time! ('we all hate Wolves and Wolves and Wolves, Wolves and Wolves ...')

West Ham v Millwall - Meh!

Though I really dislike Millwall intently because of their fans, but then West Ham's lot aren't much better.

Southampton v Portsmouth
Cardiff v Swansea
Burnley v Blackburn

All meh!

Leeds v anyone - Anyone

Except for when they play Millwall when I hope they both lose heavily and are thrown out the league.

Forest v Derby - Meh!

Please feel free to list any others I may have missed.

Never considered the last one. one. Hibs v Hearts is one I have never ever taken any notice of at all. Same as the Dundee derby. Never watched a single one of the matchups between any of those sides, while I have I think with all the others.

A few more a little wider afield......

Milan vs inter - Milan (used to love watching them back on the Italia channel 4 days)
Ajax vs Feyenoord- Ajax (seen them play once)
Marseille vs PSG - Marseille (okay not really local....)
Dortmund vs Schalke- Dortmund ( I like their kit)
Fenerbahce vs Galatasaray- no idea, let’s opt for the home team!
Lazio vs Roma - Lazio (sky blue and Gazza played for them!)
Real vs athletico Madrid- athletico (always the underdog and like simione)

Never really been fussed. I'm a little bit meh.
Apart from Man Utd. I'll root for anybody playing them. Even in the Champions league, I know the old thing about rooting for the English teams in Europe but I can't bring myself to doing it!
I'll always cheer the underdogs in Intl matches (good job as I'm English ).

Funnily enough I’m similar with Man U I put it down to the fact growing up they were the biggest side all the glory supporters at school supported them I was mocked for following Cov going to games etc.

Some of those lads now I see on social media attend Man City games now and a few Chelsea 5 years ago, how do you fluctuate between teams so easily I do not know!

It's in my nature to always support the underdogs, although never liked any of Millwall, Celtic and Villa whoever they are playing.

Liverpool v Everton - Everton
Easy, Liverpool fans are a pain in the ass

Man Utd v Man City - Man City.
Glory glory fucking wankers

Sheff Utd v Sheff Weds - Wednesday
Wednesday = class, United = Scum

Bristol City v Bristol Rovers - City
Used to be Rovers, I went up to a few of their games with a work friend but I started hearing a load of racist shit there and it turned me right off them. At the same time City have built really well and are a model for a club of their size so I've flipped

Ipswich v Norwich - dont care

Spurs v Arsenal - Arsenal
Used to live by the emirates and like the way they do things, this spurs team is hard to dislike though

Rangers v Celtic - Rangers
my dad likes them

Newcastle v Sunderland - Newcastle
Sunderland fans somehow how little man syndrome but think they're massive at the same time

Birmingham v Villa - Birmingham
Blues are the underdog

West Brom v Wolves- West Brom
Wolves have a fair number of hooligans, west brom fans are happy for a nice chat

West Ham v Millwall - Neither
Bad as each other

Southampton v Portsmouth- Saints
Again, pompey fans love trouble and saints fans are pretty chilled

Cardiff v Swansea- dont care

Burnley v Blackburn- dont care

Forest v Derby - Forest
The in laws are forest fans

I am guessing that the Nottingham derby isn't really much of a thing at all, because they hardly ever seem to play each other, forever being in different divisions.

I just checked and their last meeting was a cup game 7 years ago.

The Bristol teams rarely play one another but they hate each other big time.
Yeah. Just reading up though on the Nottingham derby and it seems that on the whole they both see other teams as rivals rather than each other.

Norwich/Ipswich has to be the mundane rivalry out there. I watched the fixture at Portman Road this season and there was little to no segregation at all, there’s more segregation at the Ricoh every week when we play teams who bring 200 supporters

I used to prefer Rovers out of the Bristol clubs until their last visit to the Ricoh. Absolute scum.

Must have missed that game, what happened?

saw a lot of misbehaviour culminating on two of their lads starting on a bloke about 60.
I shouted at them to leave him alone and didn't realise how big the fuckers were until they squared up to me! Luckily the police intervened or I'd have got a leathering!

Liverpool v Everton - Liverpool (currently)
Generally has been Everton but like the way Liverpool have played the last couple of years since Klopp has been there so swung towards Liverpool.

Man Utd v Man City - Man City
Again, not a great one to choose but City have played such lovely football this year it's hard not to admire them. As others hated United growing up due to glory supporters.

Sheff Utd v Sheff Weds - Wednesday
Obviously. This one is local to me so I tend to pay a bit more attention than I used to. Wednesday fans are generally just a better breed.

Bristol City v Bristol Rovers - Rovers
Don't really care but go with the underdog.

Ipswich v Norwich - Norwich
I had a short spell as a kid "supporting" Norwich. The only team that ever took my attention other than CCFC so always had a soft spot.

Spurs v Arsenal - Spurs
Grew to like them during the Redknapp era to the point they are generally the Premier league team I check the results for. Obviously linked to the greatest day in our history too.

Rangers v Celtic - Rangers
Although really don't pay any attention to Scottish football.

Newcastle v Sunderland - Newcastle
Only really over recent years after seeing Sunderland fans antics on here.

Birmingham v Villa - Birmingham
Obviously not Villa.

West Brom v Wolves- Wolves
Don't know why but I've just never really liked West Brom.

West Ham v Millwall - West Ham
Can't stand Millwall.

Southampton v Portsmouth- Southampton
Always had a soft spot for Saints from our time in the top tier. Consider them a similar club to us.

Cardiff v Swansea- Don't care
Burnley v Blackburn-Burnley
Forest v Derby - Forest
Hibs v Hearts- Hibs
