Lots of people say that, but never been that many concerts at The Ricoh really, and only goung to be having open-air concerts during the summer when the club aren't using it.

Don't see anywhere hosting open-air concerts in Autumn or Winter.

I think theres a new fangled invention out called a roof. ACL might be able to install one of these roof thingings over the pitch allowing concerts all year round.

How do you know how much money it makes for ACL out of interest. What percentage do the performers take from such events?

They could -- it would cost about £10 million I would guess.

Correct - it is bonkers to suggest the ground would exist without a regular tenant.

Why wouldn't it? Do the people of Coventry know what the Ricoh does? It brings business to the city - creates jobs for local people! Brought the biggest game in the world to the city!!

It's one if the top 5 venues in the UK behind ExCel, NEC, SECC, Earls Court. There is more to life than football.

It now has the largest standing concert hall in England!

There is 12,000 people watching the Florence concert - that's more than the bloody match!!!

well clearly this isn't the case as CCFC pay over a million quid!! sadly concerts do not clear that kind of money!!

ACL is equally anchored by this situation as they have a useless asset and SISU are relying on this! :jerkit:

Dont forget ricoh they only sponser the stadium because of the football club being in the papers and on the television without regular press they wouldnt be intrested!
The same with the stand sponsers with noone looking at them !
And dont forget the advertisment hordings in the ground they wouldnt pay without people seeing them every week !!

ACL WOULD STRUGGLE no doubt about it!

The problem is, by the time Richardson had gone, Highfield Road was sold and planning permission had been granted to build on it! We were a club with no money (some how) and no home!

Vaguely remember we sold ground for £7m and rented it back for £415K pa until move to Ricoh.

Lets just say there is no money in football - 48000 can be held in the Ricoh, if they all spend £5.00 that's £240,000 from one event and that's doesn't include the hire fee from the concert company

Fisher mentioned about the Ricoh last week, it was a throw away line of the stand sponsors and Stadium Sponsors could be pulling out! no one asked him about it!!!

So you know for a fact that ACL make money on each ticket sold and don't just charge a flat fee to a promoter?

Pretty much all stadiums that have gigs have them in June or July, Wembley, which without a regular tenant could easily have gigs most of the year round, has gigs just in June next year, with one in September.

If ACL making so much money from gigs, Olympics and conferences that it doesn't need the City money then why the desperation?

Suspect that Stadium sponsorship would reduce somewhat without the club too.

Maybe what the Club should do, which would stop a winding up order is pay a rent they feel fit!

They would have then made a payment before Boxing day and would be at the table saying why they are willing to pay that amount, and also how the back pay comes into it.
But i don't know if its that straight forward!

The Council sitting this one out has been a massive problem!

That's exactly what I have been saying for some time now! pay what they believe to be acceptable figure, then argue about the rest. Not just not pay anything at all!

Really??? Yes the stand sponsors have gone because of CCFC. But Ricoh?? It's a nationally known brand, even now RICOH is all over the press.

You willing to bet your life savings on ACL struggling?

If ACL don't need the money from the football club then there shouldn't e a problem lowering the rent to the league one average then.

And there popular in the winter!

How many bands actually do stadium tours??? I dont think its that many the windows like May - July not a big window is it!

If the Club left they would have to knock the ground down and build something that could house events 12 months a year! Something they would struggle with as the NEC and NIA and Ice Arena in Notts already have that!

ACL was born because of CCFC if cov stayed where they were ACL wouldn't have been born!

People from all over the UK come to a concert - not just people from Cov.

Brucey goes on sale 2moro and Ricoh is one of only 3 uk venues.

I imagine Ricoh are locked into a contract with ACL anyway, so Ricoh are not going anywhere. Unless that is Ricoh does a CCFC/Sisu and decides that contracts aren't really that important.

Oh dear.....I think you have a poor grasp on economics and business. A 20% drop in turnover would wipe out most businesses. You are making a lot of guesses and assumptions but the tenure of the argument you are admitting that they don't need the money and that the club is being ripped off. You are actually agreeing with Tim Fisher!!

ACL was born from Coventry City Council and the Higgs as they wanted to regenerate the north east of cov.

It does host a number of conferences for blue chip companies and loads of exhibitions.

People really haven't got a clue

ACL are never going into admin. The Ricoh generates millions of pounds every year, it generated over £50 million for local economy when it hosted the Olympics. It has taken Coventry to the top 5 business destinations in the UK from being out of the top 50 - it's hold a number of conferences, exhibitions and concerts daily!

The Ricoh doesn't need CCFC, just image the concerts and other events the stadium could hold. The only reason SISU bought the club was to get there hands on the Ricoh.

ACL have too many backers that won't allow them to go under - Coventry City Council, Higgs, Compass, Yorkshire Bank, DeVere and IEC experience.

ACL shouldn't back down or be bullied by fat cars.

It's tax payers money at stake here - some CCFC fans need to get a grip and release the true FACTS. Yes the club is a emotional product, but sometimes things can go to far or there comes a point that you have to stand your ground and say NO!

So all we need to do is stop all the board members driving chunky 4 by 4's and the way will be clear for negotiation!

Like most contracts(unless done by Robinson, McGinnity et al), there are normally clauses and conditions set in place for changes in circumstances.

Its not really bullying its what they thinks right even 650k is massively over priced ! most championship teams pay 270k... we are not a championship team, 300k would possibly be over the top but fair for all partys!

Why let bullies win? The council has a duty for the 388,000 people in cov that doesn't support the club to ensure TAX payers money is safe.

If the club was so well supported then the Ricoh would be full on every match.

300K + x amount from match days would probably do it! Need a sliding scale for level of football and that includes going lower!
