We needed it this summer minimum, the fact this was overlooked was criminal whoever's perspective it's looked at.The notion that losing Kelly and Godden is part of the reason for our travails this season is frankly ridiculous. We kept both for at least one season longer than we should have done anyway.
we do need more experience but experienced players who can still compete at the top end of the championship. Neither could.
Is that right? He certainly seemed to get better as he got older. I remember in league 1 (and the start of the championship) he had a mistake in him. That just stopped! At Rotherham away last season the Commentators were saying how poor he had been previously and how surprised they were he was even playing in the Championship. Adi said it was his ability to listen, learn and a will to improve that made the difference. He kept giving away goals and penalties at first, but then got better and better until he reached that tipping point that old age means it is all over.
Was looking at the relegation sides atm in the championship to see if there’s anyone who would be avaliable in the Summer who would help us.
As players go, Morgan Whittaker was brilliant last year but has suffered a bit this year. Still as a right winger could be a long term option and one we tried to get last year if I’m not wrong. Bali Mamba on that note could be a good RB option.

Maybe Doug king isn't the evil decision maker some like to believe then? You're right, I wouldn't call any of them a waste of money as such. They all have potential, the balance of the players recruited can be criticised I think. Recruiting so many younger ones at once has left them wide open for needless abuse.
How many games do they get before they get called 'dog shit', 'waste of space', 'donkey', 'lazy', 'they just look thick'. it's vile.
Have seen EMC called all sorts previous to his last run of games, but any normal person will know that time and minutes breeds confidence. He will only get better now (with time), people singing his name. I had a chat with him about his song, it's amazing what that can do for a player.
Same with Simms, first full season at this level last year, I thought he had a decent return for a then 22 year old, just moved to a new home with a young family, finally finding a place to settle. Came up with some good goals and assists against Wolves, Man U etc.
Doesn't mean he will go into his next season flying, he's young. Also requires the whole team to be at it, which lets face it, none of them were. Passing sideways and backwards all season, because of low confidence. Nobody spotting the runs and having the balls to play them. Now we are finally loading the box with players and crosses, he deserves to be given minutes.
Being dropped after having 2 good games with goals against Watford and Luton couldn't have done the confidence any good.
We all saw last season, once they stopped dragging him off after 55/60 mins each game, he came good.
Can already see the difference under FL, he likes to get stuck in on the training pitch too from what I've heard, which the players love. He's spending individual time with all of them, which I think is good man management.
Agreed, sure up the defence and stop playing sideways / backwards, we're going to improve rapidly.
I don’t think Bassette will ever be unpopular with the fans, he plays to the crowd constantly.Yeah, he definitely is very raw. Great enthusiasm and it's clear he has ability and potential. His minutes need to be managed, or he is at risk of becoming a boo boy with some of our 'fans'.
Plays to the crowd by giving 100%, constantly making runs, calling for the ball and always wanting it, and giving the CH's a torrid time?I don’t think Bassette will ever be unpopular with the fans, he plays to the crowd constantly.
And having limited scoring ability. He is the modern day Andy morrellPlays to the crowd by giving 100%, constantly making runs, calling for the ball and always wanting it, and giving the CH's a torrid time?
Is that what you mean?
Hasn't given many goalkeepers a torrid time so far! Improve his finishing and decision making though and he'll score a hatfulPlays to the crowd by giving 100%, constantly making runs, calling for the ball and always wanting it, and giving the CH's a torrid time?

Some people on here are pretty rough on him. Don't get it tbh, for his age he's quality.Hasn't given many goalkeepers a torrid time so far! Improve his finishing and decision making though and he'll score a hatful
He needs to improve his finishing first and foremost. If he does he won't be here long. Some people on here are pretty rough on him. Don't get it tbh, for his age he's quality.
It’s purely because he’s popular. People love to be contrarian on here. Some people on here are pretty rough on him. Don't get it tbh, for his age he's quality.
I don't think so, most can see he's clearly got a lot about him but he needs to seriously improve his movement, finishing and decision making to become a bigger threat. It’s purely because he’s popular. People love to be contrarian on here.

I’d look at premier clubs who have recently exited their manager and who are keen to move players on to refresh their squad under a new manager.
leicester, Southampton, West Brom, man united etc
they might be forced to do loans late in the window where they heavily cross subsidise the players salary.
Almost like he's a young player still learning his trade.Right to to sum up Bassette will be top quality once he learns to stay onside, work for the team better, be better on the ball and finish better?
They aren't even harsh criticisms to be honestAlmost like he's a young player still learning his trade.
Just to put things into perspective and also to show how much bollocks some people spout,Great potential if he can start scoring goals and mastering the offside

He'd be even more impressive if Rudoni learnt to put the ball where he wants it.Right to to sum up Bassette will be top quality once he learns to stay onside, work for the team better, be better on the ball and finish better?
I think I was trying to say that. Sorry if any confusion. Absolutely massive for us and a huge miss. I thought it was weird that the Rotherham chaps did not rate him (although all the players were pants that day). Think he reflects how far he came along with us from relegation at Burton to near promotion here.Is that right? He certainly seemed to get better as he got older. I remember in league 1 (and the start of the championship) he had a mistake in him. That just stopped!
I regularly have to tell the old man that Fadz was far more than just a brute at the back. He was a really good footballer. One of our most important players of recent times.
Agreed. Would have loved Adi to coach him.Just to put things into perspective and also to show how much bollocks some people spout,
Gyokeres was 2.5 years older than Bassette when he came here on loan, and had received Premier league coaching at Brighton, and scored 3 goals in 19 appearances here in his first season. And is now worth around £100million.
Bassette has scored 2 goals in 14 appearances (so far) so is on coarse to match or outscore Gyokeres's first season here, and is still in his first season in English football, got his first international cap, and is only 20 years old.
His rise from an unknown teenager that no-one had heard of here or wanted, to first choice CF in 6 months is amazing.
How about we give some respect to the lad. (Most have, tbf, but theres always one or two)
Give it a full season, he could score 20 goals across all competitions this season and be next seasons dogshit donkey if he doesn't hit the ground running. Backing younger players and giving them time isn't popular.I don’t think Bassette will ever be unpopular with the fans, he plays to the crowd constantly.

Why weren’t people saying this about Wright and Simms last season? He's got bags of potential and should turn out to be a very good player.
Probably shouldn't be playing the amount of minutes he is but there has to be a reason that he is and it’s probably that more senior players can't do what's expected of them.
Why weren’t people saying this about Wright and Simms last season?

The base fee for Bassette and BTA is only 0.5m below Simms. Bassette plays like Vik except he’s nowhere near as good as him in his loan spell here.
The narrative behind Bassette compared to BTA and Simms is a bit weird. He’s our lowest scoring striker.
Well worth the money for his goals in the FA cup alone, let alone his league goals.Simms base fee was £3.5m
Agree with the sentiment, but isn’t all down to King. We’ve just missed out on players who would’ve fit that bill!Someone needs to tell Doug that experience through the squad is necessary for the development and value of young players in a squad (Exhibit A: Brighton)
We wouldn’t have reached the playoffs and sold Gyok & Hamer for £35m if we didn’t have Fadz & Kelly setting the standards
Surely will be rectified in the next two windows
We had Alan Browne ready to go then blew him off for another target and in the end got neither. Would have been nice to land Sam McCallum instead of persisting with Dasilva but there the Viveash connection bites us in the arse.Agree with the sentiment, but isn’t all down to King.
