Unless he was willing to grow half a foot it was never going to. Sounds daft to just go 'he's too short', but that's most of the problem when you stick him in a back 4.

Dabo also said when DaSilva joined that he was quite slow which isn’t ideal.

The fact we’d pursued DaSilva since the January before is a joke. Couldn’t even get in the Bristol team and then we waited for him until the summer. I can’t believe we pursued such a shit player so hard.

We openly we’re trying to sell Bidwell to Blues to sign DaSilva but it fell through as Bristol couldn’t get the guy they wanted

Question is why, what are the reasons we missed out on them? They were clearly identified by Robins & the Recruitment team as a necessity.

Here’s what we know of 3 targets:

Stamenic - gazumped by Forest
Browne - jilted because we went for Stamenic over him
Mystery loanee CM - injured and only just come back

It snowballed after we agreed terms with Stamenic because we believed he was signed and he pursued another option at the last minute. As for the loanee CM, injuries happen.

It’s not easy to just go out and sign players.

We should have made Browne the priority.

I disagree, Stamenic has UCL experience and looked a real talent and whilst Browne is a good player and leader who undoubtedly improve the team, I reckon Stamenic would’ve been the better option.

The club wants to get to the next level, signing a player who’s had a great career in the championship doesn’t necessarily help us to get to the Prem.

As it happens, we got neither so it’s Sod’s Law.

Get the point but there’s a lesson for the club in Marko and that’s to target players who ultimately want to be here.

Get the best that want to be here.

I'm not sold on the Stamenic vs Browne theory tbh. I think it's just fans putting 2 & 2 together knowing that we were close with Stamenic.

They're different types of player & if you look, Stamenic is clearly earmarked as then enabling us to sell Sheaf (as King himself admitted)
As it is, we missed out on Stamenic, Sheaf got injured & stayed but we still could have signed Browne.

Again though, not really the question that was asked, it was why didn't we sign anyone with proven experience? Of your examples, only Browne fits that brief.

That suggests we are aware of all of our summer transfer targets which we are not. Every club misses out on players. Man City missed out on Declan Rice. It’s football.

I've heard the Mystery CM was James McConnell from Liverpool

It’s what Saddles source was reporting that Browne felt ‘dissed’ that we dropped him for Stamenic and it is plausible.

It’s unlikely we would’ve pursued 2 CM options simultaneously because we’d have been left with Stamenic, Browne, Eccles, Sheaf, Torp and Allen for 2 spots. It’s overkill from a squad and FFP perspective.

Assuming Stamenic was brought in to enable Sheaf’s sale doesn’t mean that would’ve happened immediately because you’d need a buyer and as you rightly point out, he got injured making a move unlikely this window.

The point is that we didn’t actually sign anyone new for that area which meant we were always going to be short on numbers when Sheaf and Allen got injured.

Agreed but we don’t know what was said, he could’ve made out he really wanted to join us! After all, the deal was agreed in principle and all that was needed was for him to sign the contract. The reports from Serbia suggested he was hesitant to sign but (with hindsight) that was probably his agent drumming up interest.

As Jimmy87 reported too, we’ve been really ambitious with some of our transfer targets and this is a high risk, high reward strategy. It’s a 5 year project so we can afford to be patient.

As a whole, we need players who can make the transition from the Championship to the Prem if the intention is promotion and survival.

As a necessity? I thought King heavily suggested we were only bringing in another CM to enable us to sell Sheaf?

Getting a bit back on topic. Asking price for Nikitscher is €1m. One of the German 2.Bundesliga teams made a bid of 500k and got rejected and are out of the race for him.

Yes... The thread has gotten conflated.

We were talking about some experience being highlighted as a necessity, not another CM (although there is an argument for both).

I'm asking how he's done FFS. As in does he get alot of minutes ,assists, goals? etc

Just a question fucking hell happy new year
He's done well to be in a top 4 club, that's my point, made regular appearances, (12) almost certainly going to end up in the playoffs, and could be a premier league player next season.

I'm sure he has no regrets about signing for Sunderland!

Happy new year to you too.
