Team to play Leicester (1 Viewer)

I wouldn’t say fantasy, as much as I love Eccles. I think we’ll go 3412 with Godden, just having a play around with the available players.

No problem with Eccles at all in that position, quite likely. It’s playing four at the back that’s the fantasy! It will obviously be 3412 (90% chance) or possibly 3421 (10%)

I just wonder if that isn’t the way to phase out Fadz, rather than finding a like for like. With a better back line we shouldn’t need three as much. But I think you’re right at least at first Robins will stick with how we’ve played since the promotion season.

Like us Leicester are on a bit of a re-build, new manager etc and will take a bit of time to get going, looks an intriguing match, Reckon 0-0 which is normally the odds for that score is a good bet.

I'd take that right now, but after watching Leicester play against Liverpool, don't think so. 🤔

He has very occasionally switched to 4 at the back, taking Fadz off (usually when desperately chasing a game) but I can’t remember the last time he started with a back 4. Possibly in league 2?
When it comes to phasing Fadz out (or resting him) it will almost certainly be Lati, Thomas and Binks (from R to L) assuming all 3 are fit. That’s what they’ve been bought/ loaned for. Obviously any further CB additions might affect that.

I assume he's not going to be ready as he hasn't had any game time. This is just what I'd like to see.

Agreed. MvE likely to be on the bench, maybe get some minutes, and then start against Wimbledon.

I really liked the fact that both Latibeaudiere and Thomas looked physical and liked a challenge. Obviously we know Fadz likes a challenge, but sometimes he looks like he's too slow. Looking forward to seeing Binks play too.

He's a young fit lad and has 6 days of training ahead of him.

Collins
MvE Thomas Binks Dasilva
Eccles Hamer Sheaf
Sakamoto Palmer
Simms

S: Wilson, Latibeaudiere, Bidwell, Fadz, Kelly, Howley, Eghosa, Godden, Obikwu
Think Robins will go for his tried and trusted back three and unless we sign a name player McFadz play his normal role. Binks ahead of Latibeaudiere ? not sure about that.

Wilson is fit & is a definite to start over Collins . He only had a back spasm , but even with that , I would still have him over Collins .
I’m sure Adi will have them all chomping at the bit to start Sunday & I believe Conor Coady is ruled out , so let’s see our height advantage pay off for once

He won’t start Wilson unless his back is 100% and he’s proved it consistently in training. In any case, I think Robins sees Collins as the future and is likely to start him on Sunday.

We played it here and there first season up as well. We have dabbled with a back four.

Ok fair enough. Did we start a back four last season? If we did I don’t remember it. I do remember him taking Fadz off a couple of times to move to a four, and occasionally even taking Fadz off and going to a more mobile back 5.
Anyway, back to the original point, he isn’t going to start with a back 4 anytime soon!

Can't believe that Leicester have been playing that Vestegaard, whilst Harry Souttar has been on the bench?!

Think the newbies at the back all of them stated they like playing out from the back, also Collins also said he likes the ball at his feet.
All those statements tell me we are again 3 at the back.Bidwell or de Silva not sure who we will start,on the other side think sakamoto will be benched.
Bigger picture think leciester will be at the same stage as us a new coach, new players, all adjusting to new surroundings players, systems. So who can string together the most cohesive team performance should win,so what a start for robins intake for 23/24 it could be.

Think he will stick with 2 up top and godden plays

Despite some posters twisting my words I actually like godden and back him to score if gets similar chances to Exeter again so we have a chance come Sunday to get a big away win I think wether we play box or 2 upfront

While he's a Coventry player, he plays.

So we know he's not signing. We know that he is valued upward of ~£8m. And we know that if he suffers an injury, that is likely to mean clubs won't be in the market for him until around January when he can sign a pre-contract.

I would be of the opinion that we protect our asset for the 1-2 games by not playing him if it is the difference of cashing in on him or not.

Is there are bid of over 8 million in yet? If not then we play our player rather than worry about hypothetical bids.

Pretty sure we played 4-5-1 away at Burnley last season. We were down to the bare bones somewhat.

Started with a back four of Bidwell - Doyle - Rose - Dabo

But yes it's incredibly rare!

Yep, forgotten that one. I remember BNC playing in front of Dabo that day, weird formation but he had plenty of the ball. Possibly his debut? BNC was replaced by Burroughs in second half. Reid & Nee were on the bench so we must have been short!

I can’t see Sakamoto being ahead of MvE the start of a match, coming on as a sub later perhaps.

Yes Mark Robins will play Sakamoto as an impact player, imo.

Assuming he isn’t sold by the weekend then I think we have to start Hamer and risk any injury ruining our ability to move him on in this window.

I do not think Robins will throw Milan in to this hot bed of a fixture, nor Tats.

He will try to start right and hope Milan and Tats can come on and make an impact.

I think he will go:
Collins
Eccles
Thomas
Fadz
Joel
Bidwell ( Da Silva not yet match fit )
Sheaf
Hamer
Palmer
Simms
Godden

it’s a solid line up but lacks pace and dynamism on the wings.

We're playing away and against top opposition, so it's likely we play a similar formation to what we did against Boro at their place, one up top and hit them on the counter with pace, hopefully meaning we play Van Ewijk and Sakamoto. Expecting a packed out midfield so no Godden.

My assumption is that they will have all the ball and be expected to do something and impress at their place so Sakamoto won't be leaving much space in behind because he'll be part of the defensive unit until we pinch the ball off them.

Something like this.

Wilson/Collins
Van Ewijk,Thomas, Fadz, Lati, Bidwell
Sakamoto,Sheaf, Hamer, Palmer
Simms

Few differences being, Bidwell<->Da Silva.
Also wouldn't be surprised to see Eccles appear in there as Robins likely trusts him in these tough matches.
