Could tell yesterday it's made a difference, Jones got up after being fouled and squared up to their player. Last season, he probably would have moaned at the ref and sulked.

What I noticed on a photo after was that while he was squaring up the people around it were the ref, Doyle and Kelly.

The other day "can't remember if it was Jones" it was said that when they get fouled, by the time they are up Doyle has already dealt with it.

I think little bits like this will make the difference. It's the polar opposite to last season.

Some said Doyle was poor in first half. But to me the mark of a good captain is to get the team playing well even if they themselves are having an off day.

Must admit I was a bit worried about the Doyle signing; thought it might be the case of Coventry sign another good player whose legs have gone. Doesn't seem to be the case.

I saw some of second half on the stream I thought we looked good as a team. Test will come when teams park the bus against us.

Jones knows he's going to be backed up this season in contrast to last when he had mostly other kids around him and the few senior players who were in the side were not the warrior type
Other managers are telling their players to target him but he keeps coming back for more as he knows Doyler and others will be right there if it kicks off

I still don't get what the worry about Doyle was. He was the captain and enforcer of a team that pissed promotion from this Division last season. And he played nearly every game. Some players just have natural fitness. And when they do slow down a bit they are still better than other players when they drop down a division or two. His game isn't running from one box to the other all game. So he could easily have another season or two after this one. And you can't beat having a player who still plays because he still enjoys the game.

We don't exactly have the best track record with veteran players who have lower league experience

Trouble is though if we do(and we all hope) do well and go up, what will the objective be from the owners? If it is still to be self sufficient then again there will come a time (maybe in L1) where we can't compete without investment.:emoji_thinking: But lets get there first and worry about that after.:emoji_thumbsup:

Many teams punch above their weight. That's the beauty of football. Look at Huddersfield last season. By rights they should have been far closer to the bottom than the top based on income / budget. And Yeovil a few years back, going up to the Championship. Yeah, they're the more extreme examples, but it gives us hope. And at least if we're worrying about that this time next year, it means that this season was flipping brilliant!

The thing is, it's nothing to do with the owners right now. This start to the season, the squad, the organisation is all down to Robins and his managment team, including the scout.

I am seeing a lot of people at the moment saying 'why have SISU suddenly started backing the manager'. In reality, nothing has changed, I actually just think some fans are looking for scaepegoats for other previous managers...

Correct. SISU will be as much to thank for a successful season this year as they were for last year's relegation.

Jones got fouled, nothing given got straight up demanded the ball went back at the same player won a free kick then it kicked off!! The whole demeaner is different this year. The lads were kicked all over the park but no one cried off or hid

There's an element of that. However, it's not just all down to Robins. Bringing in 12 players is a lot, so I doubt Robins has waved a magic wand and made it fit in the budget. The budget must be one of the largest in the league as we're able to sign the players we have. We even had some good teams in L1 too.

The budget doesn't come into it really. I imagine it is smaller than last years given the relegation, and probably similar in league status as last year.

The only difference is that the manager this year took note of what budget he had and worked accordingly with it to squeeze every penny. Robins has been organised and planned well for every eventuality. Now it is paying off.

For sure, clearly Robins has had a plan because we were signing players in May. When Robins came back, he spoke somewhat positively about the owners. Also, because we were more or less relegated from L1 by his appointment, I imagine the budget for next year would've been discussed and assurances given. We've had a good preseason, losing only Thomas and Bigi, to date - but I'm not sure Bigi would even start in this team so I'm not really fussed. So clearly he has been given the backing of the board.

To be fair to your comments, this isn't an appraisal of said board, because we shouldn't have dropped down from finishing 3pts off the playoffs, to relegation the following season. But at least we look like we're trying to get out of this league.

So from last season how many loans went back, how many didn't have their contracts renewed, how many have we loaned out and how many have been sold/compo paid for?

There was the tin pot windfall. We were self sufficient or so we are led to believe.

Ticket sales are above what nearly everyone thought. 2 players have come in late. So bit of a coincidence?

If our attendances keep up and the same % spent last season and this we could even end up with a bigger budget this season.

Bums on seats pays for players, the bums connected to SISU don't.

We lost Thomas and Bigi, all the rest were released by Robins. Personally, I think the team is an improvement on last year, with the exception of Thomas.

Robins set a target of getting 12 players in, and unsurprisingly, we've signed 12 players. There must've been some provisional budget in place for him to come to that number. By the sounds of it, our latest signing was in the pipeline for a while, based on MR's comments.

So far we've had 1 home game, which we got a respectable 10k, but it was opening day with a large away support. I think we'll average around 8k, unless we really are the real deal and the fans flock back and we hit more than 13k. Maybe we'll get 1-2 more signings.

We most probably paying less in wages to those that have left.

well if Mowbray had the option to follow the recruitment model that Robins is implementing but didn't then yes.

You mean like Reid's 2 year and Turnbull's 3 year? I think K Thomas has a 2 year too.It probably depends on the type of player he was trying to sign.

Joy won't know who each player is or care, there will be a set number and as long as CCFC are below that set number I doubt she even looks.

It's up to Robins / Widdrington to then work within that number as best they can.

Even Mowbray wasn't that bad to offer more than 1 year to the crap he ended up bringing in.
