Think the Rioch pitch will have a big say on where we finish in the league - The ball on Saturday was like a hot potato for both sides not suited for our type of passing game and more suited to the direct hoof ball and chase approach - Players trying to embarrassingly control the ball and it bouncing off in a completely different - one instance where the ball ran over Kyle Reids foot and went out for throw-in - Reid left totally frustrated shaking his head

Isn’t our game more hoof ball like than slick passing anyway? There’s nothing wrong with it btw. It’s been effective.

Because they were great top flight players used to playing on those pitches, not 4th division plodders strangely used to playing on something better.

Was going to say exactly this. We're deluded if we think we're a slick passing side. We've brought ourselves down to the same level as the other L2 teams who play direct football.

a lot of pitches were like it, so all were used to it. Also different kind of ball, different boots, and played at a different pace. I'm not advocating todays football is better or worse and good players would always have adapted, but almost impossible to compare even at simply pitch level.

I wish we had a 'passing game'. If we have I'm really yet to see it. I don't think we're even that direct. If it gets us out the league I won't complain but it's probably the most non-descript style of football I've ever witnessed.

Does rather bring it home that one! Anyone remember that year as well, I think late 80's, when Highfield Road was so covered in sand that it resembled more a beach than a football pitch? Wasn't as bad as that clip, mind...

I wish we had a 'passing game'. If we have I'm really yet to see it. I don't think we're even that direct. If it gets us out the league I won't complain but it's probably the most non-descript style of football I've ever witnessed.

Don't get me wrong if we can scrape 1-0's and take us up then it's done it's job but we never really have any set things we do. It's the same with set pieces.

It's like 11 blokes out there making it up as they go along.

Not a fan of teams/managers/press talking/blaming the pitch... both teams play on it - get over it, they're professionals, adapt their game if needed. There's still 4 corner flags and 2 goals!

If anything a crap pitch should favour us as we should be used to it as we play on it more than everyone else.

and yet we won on Saturday and have won a total of 11 times out of 17 matches this season in the league drawing another 4 ...................... on that pitch

There is only Accrington, Luton & Notts County that have won more at home so far this season

It is not an excuse really in my mind

1987-88. They put a ton of sand on the HR pitch to ensure the FA Cup 3rd round vs Torquay went ahead (our first game as holders). Come March it was like Blackpool beach.

In the first half Haynes had a touch of the 'yips' whilst trying to take a throw in, it was if he had brain freeze and couldn't think what to do. I have a recollection of Luton's right back winning a towering header at the weekend, so I hope we don't keep hoofing it out to Reid in the air all game. Keep it on the deck (or close to it) tonight, please!

The pitch is a disgrace.

Clearly not enough resource is being put in to maintain rugby and football. It is definitely a leveller for teams and may account, to a degree, towards our current style of play.

I'm sure if it bobbles over our strikers foot in the final game of the season when we need 3 points to claim a playoff/automatic spot then people won't be so forgiving of it.

Going to get wrecked! (That's the pitch, not me).

In their warm-ups they really dig their heels in and push against the turf don't they!
