Thanks to the Leamington & Warwick Supporters Club for a good night on Thursday with four of the 87 team. Messrs Ogrizovic, Bennett, McGrath and Phillips - legends all of them, and they rolled out some nice anecdotes plus a few interesting thoughts on the way the game has changed. Oggy's even bigger than I thought, and I probably took a risk telling him off for his unscheduled walkabout in the first half of the final 😂

How to describe the event to ordinary city dwellers who might never have experienced swanky South Warwickshire? The Nelson Club is opulent beyond belief. The string quartet played Mozart to an audience wearing ballgowns, tiaras and silk cravats. The oysters, smoked salmon and bubbly were all delicious, and I was lucky enough to win a truffle shaver and a polo mallet in the raffle.

Non L &W supporters clubs events would be held at the local working men’s club and would have offered their Lonsdale wearing members polystyrene trays of cockles and winkles with cheap vinegar and a tooth pick plus a fist full of over cooked oven chips. If you were lucky enough to win the main raffle prize you would be offered a choice of a pack of single use Bic razors or a B&Q bucket as the main raffle prize.
